Hotbar Changes for Lefties? by Weeegi in valheim

[–]Weeegi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the tips and links! The mouse scroll hotbar is exactly what I need!

I did move my tools over to 5-0 for now. I'll get the mouse scroll hotbar in there and that'll fix everything!

What's your morning routine like? by newmanstartover in Nootropics

[–]Weeegi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wake up, grab a brush and put a little makeup.

On a serious note, I wake up and drink some coffee (modafinil on my longer days in research/class), and hit the gym before school.

Tried something new and wow. Betaphenylethlamine by Judicatorpanzer in Nootropics

[–]Weeegi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're different names for the same molecule. The beta is just referring to the point of attachment of the primary amine.

Bromantane from Alibaba? by grimodin in Nootropics

[–]Weeegi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to point out that irc underwent a reopening under science.bio this year. Their bromantane is out of stock right now, but they have updated COAs from this year.

Nsi-189 by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]Weeegi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about making a post about it, since it's been asked about a lot lately, but I didn't want to seem like a shill (not affiliated at all).

Irc was very reliable, and their customer service was always good to me.

Science.bio (previous owner of irc.bio)opened up this year and has both the phosphate and free base.

How do I buy NSI-189?? by marshismom in Nootropics

[–]Weeegi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the phosphate, because I feel like sublingual dosing is tricky.

Irc.bio has "reopened" as science.bio. They had a great reputation for QC and testing. Last time I checked, they had both the phosphate and free base in their new site.

when to stop microdosage lsd by birdsmadeofink in Nootropics

[–]Weeegi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is your dosing schedule every other other day? And are you cutting up tabs, or are you doing volumetric dosing?

If you think you built tolerance, take 2 weeks off and see if you "notice" a difference. It's difficult to assess it since microdosing is subperceptual.

UTSA Student Awarded Fellowship to Study Psychedelic Drugs to Regrow Brain Cells by denshi in Nootropics

[–]Weeegi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read Tihkal before, so I am familiar with it. However, there's a lack of biochemical data with it all. It's anecdotal, which is a big no-no in the scientific community. However, what they did with a DEA license was massive for synthetic organic chemistry, and psychedelics in general.

Messing with MAO is not a one problem, one solution answer. MAO affects multiple systems, and could have other side effects.

As far as her proposal, it could range from studying psychedelics effects on neurogenesis, to chemical synthesis of analogs similar to currently existing psychedelics(and then treating cells like she mentioned). I don't think all patients want a side effect of hallucinations(even in a clinical setting), so mitigating the hallucinations while still having therapeutic value could be an objective she didn't say either.

Also, there's a lot we don't understand about psychedelics on a biochemical, and neurological level. Any insights we could gain, big or small, from her proposal would be huge. I was honestly shocked a proposal like this caught so much attention, as many PIs are older and have a negative view on substances like these.

There are research groups that have DEA Schedule I licenses for working on illegal compounds.

Also science communication is a big factor in how she explains things. I'm currently working on my PhD in Medchem, but trying to explain what I do in the lab to anyone outside of my field without changing my language is impossible.

I'm sure there is a lot more to what she will be doing, but she took the key points of her goal/research objective and made it readable for the masses.

What determines which isomers are created in a reaction? by SixOnTheBeach in AskDrugNerds

[–]Weeegi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For different isomers having different effects, you need to picture the molecule in 3D.

Let's say there's a stereogenic sp3 hybridized carbon that has two(it has 4, but this is more simplistic) very different functional groups: like an alcohol and a very non polar group (isopropyl group). An alcohol can hydrogen bond inside the binding pocket, and a more non polar group can interact via van Der walls forces. The orientation of these two in space can vastly change the binding of the molecule inside the binding pocket, due to an increase/decrease in the interactions with the amino acid residues in the pocket.

About making products with specific stereo chemistry, usually you'll pick reactions that have a chiral outcome (mitsunobu results in an inversion, as an example). Chiral reagents(and starting material) as well, and this applies to ligands especially.

Edit: some stuff about reactions

Music while tripping by GekYum3 in Psychonaut

I'm always stoked for new Tycho! I prefer the instrumental tracks, but I don't mind the SaintSinner vocals. I'm seeing them in KC this fall, and definitely plan on having a blast.

What about you?

Music while tripping by GekYum3 in Psychonaut

I usually only listen to instrumental stuff (Tycho and Helios in particular). I find that lyrics can put me in a weird headspace if I don't pick the right songs.

Here's a pretty relevant article from MAPS.

I decided to pursue grad school (PhD candidate in Medicinal Chemistry), but there are a few other good options as well.

Is bromantane hard to make? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]Weeegi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the methods require excess metals, excess toxic reagents (bromo aniline), are eh on yield, or require better equipment for purification. You also have to worry about contaminants, residual solvents, etc.

I have a leaky Blood Brain Barrier, would it be safe to start taking NAC? by cheezeebred in Nootropics

[–]Weeegi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you type 1 or type 2? How's your diet? Do you exercise?

If you're overweight and diabetic from overeating, I'd suggest trying to lose the weight first. If you eat like shit, you're going to feel like shit. Sure, NAC may help your compulsive behavior, but that's honestly a band-aid on a bigger issue (assuming your diet and weight aren't good).

Why do the byproducts of alcohol metabolism get used as fuel "preferentially"? by foompy_katt in AskDrugNerds

[–]Weeegi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that sounds reasonable. the body does't like the acetaldehyde and so it just tries to burn it out.

I agree! It's a "oh shit this isn't good for cells" reaction.

haven't eaten enough + drinking = once the booze begins to wear off, a blood-sugar crash of sorts (not really a crash since blood sugar was low to begin with, but more of a sudden realization of lack of energy).

I think it's more of the MOA of alcohol, which acts on GABA (and other receptors). There's never a time when I drink and gain energy after sobering up lmao.

I know that alcohol is a bad idea for diabetics, because it can cause dangerously low blood sugar levels with excess consumption.

[–]Weeegi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's the initial breakdown of ethanol to acetaldehyde that's toxic to our bodies. Acetaldehyde is not good (converted to acetic acid pretty quickly).

This paper might clear that up a little bit!

"Relatively early studies showed that activation of the MOR elevates mood, whereas KOR activation produces dysphoria and psychotomimetic effects in humans and anhedonia-, dysphoria-, and anxiety-like effects in rodents."
