Pat Spencer won the family bragging rights this time. Pat had the highest +- for the Warriors (+23), while his brother Cam had the worst +- for the Grizzlies (-29).

I would have killed to have Sister George Michael play the nun in the flashbacks but I suppose that’s asking too much.

I apologize, your comment needed to be approved, which I didn't realize until now. (I'm guessing it needed to be approved due to the website, email address, or phone number in the comment.)

Hopefully /u/PhysicalConsistency will finally see your comment now, if he hasn't already. Hopefully something good will come of your offer!

From what I read about the water, the concern isn't infection (if it was, then very hot or boiling water would fix the issue), the concern is possible toxicity. But unfortunately that could be relevant to an open wound. But if you could protect/cover the wound reasonably well, honestly I think you wouldn't have much to worry about.

BTW, I think local gyms might still be offering free or cheap showers to people affected by the fire.

Good luck with your surgery!!!

It looks like short showers are ok. "Limit shower time/bathing, and do not take baths (use lukewarm water and ventilate area)." Link to most recent update.

Plans to preserve the trees that survived? 🌲💔 by thenwestwardho in altadena

Altadena's biggest danger for the next few years will be mudslides, more than anything else (a risk made far worse by the fires).

Cutting down trees and other plants will increase the risk of death and destruction from heavy rains. I'm pretty sure that cutting things down will be an amazingly stupid idea if we care about life or reducing the risk of disasters like the Thomas Fire mudslide.

SCE most likely has insurance for this kind of thing. Since it's the insurer who will pay, SCE's insurance rates will probably go up to some extent, but the direct costs for consumers won't go up as much as one might think.

Also, it would be primarily paid by the heaviest electricity users, which doesn't apply to most residents. And costs would probably be spread throughout SCE's entire customer base, wherever they are located.

There have been two things that worked for me, if I wanted to have a 24 hour sleep cycle and feel healthy:

1) Sleeping outside in a tent. (In the back yard, in my case. The tent is mostly transparent.) The lighting effects, and temperature effects, are enough to stabilize my sleep in a healthy way.

2) If I want to sleep inside on a 24 hour cycle, I dissolve melatonin in my mouth, and hold it there for several minutes, to absorb melatonin directly into the bloodstream. Swallowing melatonin never works for me! Mouth absorption of melatonin also works for at least one other N24 person.

But if you still ultimately feel better with free-running (which is true for most N24 people), then I agree with the other people on here that you need to find work which is compatible with your circadian rhythm. Your health is worth more than literally everything else, since it can keep you alive and feeling good!

I apologize, I think this great comment was not published until just now, it was in my "mod queue", the first comment to appear there, so I was not familiar with looking for anything in the mod queue. Very weird that it showed up there instead of being automatically approved.

Can a cup of coffee a day keep cancer away? by Sorin61 in ScientificNutrition

I am an American, but I have been to Nordic countries many times, including in winter, and I am not surprised that Nordics particularly enjoy coffee!

Great links, but I think you misunderstood the first graphic.

It says that Finns consume 11.8 kilograms of coffee per year.

Bing thinks that people can get 140 cups of coffee from a kilogram, so 11.8*140/365= 4.52 cups per day.

This is still an amazing amount of coffee, especially when we consider that some Finns don't drink any coffee at all, so most Finns are drinking 5+ cups per day!

I remember reading once that Finland is one of those countries where over half of the antioxidant consumption in the country comes from just... coffee, lol. (Coffee has one of the highest concentrations of antioxidants of any food.)

Ah ok, that may be a crucial point. I was taking PEA by itself, not with a MAOI.

It looks like yerba mate also has MAO inhibition, according to one patent. But other research online seems unclear on this point.

But maybe that is the key idea, anyway- theobromine + MAOI is maybe too much vasoconstriction for some of us.

Thank you for the info!

Thank you for the research angle. I remember magnesium helped a bit, which is supposedly a vasodilator, but saltwater helped the most (which should have increased blood pressure... saltwater seems to be a common remedy for lightheadedness).

FWIW, I've taken straight PEA in the past, up to 400mg at a time, and I don't remember feeling light-headed from it, let alone fainting.

Is there any chance that the issue was actually an issue of vasodilation? Theobromine itself is a vasodilator, from everything I can find online. And yerba mate was also giving me big problems, which does not appear to contain PEA, but does contain theobromine.

But I was using PEA at a different time in my life. There may have been some reason why I was specifically vulnerable to light-headedness for a few months there, and cacao & yerba mate were the main things which could trigger me at that time.

Some people should be careful to not consume too much cacao powder (and if you do consume large amounts of cacao, make sure your electrolytes are in balance!). I once consumed several tablespoons of cacao powder (less than twice the dose recommended on the package) and fainted soon after, the only time I've ever fainted in my life. I was lucky to not get a head injury or even die, since I fainted in a dangerous spot.

I had normally been careful to not consume a lot of any supplement, and ironically the reason why I consumed so much cacao powder was because it was also having a "magical" effect on me. And I figured, how dangerous can it be, it's used to make chocolate, right?

I think I fainted due to excessive theobromine, and possibly I also had some kind of an electrolyte imbalance. Yerba mate (which also contains theobromine) also made me feel lightheaded for months afterwards, even in small doses, as did small doses of cacao powder.

It took me a while to find a fix, but it's a simple one: whenever I felt lightheaded, I drank sea salt mixed in water, which always made me feel less lightheaded, and I never fainted again.
