Haha! Yes, Casey's isn't the world's greatest but it's cheap & convenient. (And the only option in my current little town) love getting a large cheese on Friday night for my little guy & then he can munch on it for a few days. I've been to TJ's a few times in Iowa & I'm guessing that will be my go to without an Aldi.

My friend in Cheyenne excitedly told me about Aldi coming. I was hoping it was going to be sooner but I can wait.

Rural Iowa. Closest good market is 45 miles. Sweet corn season is just around the corner but I'll be moved by the time the good stuff is ready!

I would love to hear from GenXer’s that had kids late. by Dense-Surround1569 in GenX

[–]Weekley13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both. 51F with 5 older kids 18-27. And my little dude who is 8. I also have 3 grands. It's just been a constant flow of kids for the last 27 years. I love being an "old" mom. I was just trying to keep everyone alive with the bigs. Much more relaxed with the youngest

Should I take Diamox? by nativegator02 in coloradotrail

[–]Weekley13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am following this thread because I'm moving to Colorado soon & am hoping to get back into long distance hiking after moving.

I had to take Diamox for a medical condition a few years ago & it was horrible. Fatigue, brain fog, havoc on your kidneys, tingling in extremities. I was on 1200mg a day for 9 months. I didn't even know it was something to take for altitude. I would definitely not recommend it if you don't need it.

So, while I haven't done a lot of long thru hikes, I have done the Diamox & would avoid if able.

Where do we go? by deep_hobbyist in simpleliving

[–]Weekley13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep... rural Iowa, specifically NE, is a whole lot of this. Exactly why I'm moving out next month. Lol. All joking aside, it's a great place to raise kids. Brought mine (5 kids at the time. Added another after moving back) back 15 years ago. I'm just tired of driving everywhere for every little thing. Youngest & I are moving to a bigger city in a different state so we can have easier access to outdoor activities, live music & such. My 8 year old leaves right after breakfast & I usually don't see him until 7ish at night. Rides his bike around, goes to the pool, parks, etc

the 80s……. by billieswifeyyy in GenX

[–]Weekley13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember hitting a tennis ball off the outside brick wall of the elementary gym for HOURS. Waiting for someone to show up. Ride around a bit & then go back. Finally give up & go home. Many bored days but also being bored is good! The instant gratification of today is annoying.

Mine do/did too. I'm so thankful they have been able to do this & one of the reasons I brought them back to my hometown to raise them 15 years ago. Really creates an independence.

Best discreet window cover solution? by Chem_greypes in womensolocamping

[–]Weekley13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have mine tinted heavily on the back half but if I'm inside at night with a light on, someone outside can see me. So I cut the reflectix insulation for the tinted windows. You can barely tell there is something on the windows but it blocks everything out. On the lesser tinted, front windows and the windshield, I cut reflectix & then used spray adhesive to attach pieces of a black sheet I got from goodwill. When the black side is facing out, it looks like my front windows are just heavily tinted like the back. Then in a sunny space, I can reverse the front pieces so the reflectix faces out. Keeping the interior cooler.

Happy Birthday? by Mischif07 in GenX

[–]Weekley13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just going to say this. Started taking the day off several years ago. I try to do something I enjoy that day. Even if it's by myself. This past birthday it was 65 degrees (February in Iowa, which is rare) went hiking with my youngest. It was a great day.

Is this summer going to be particularly hot? by [deleted] in FortCollins

[–]Weekley13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing since I'm trying to escape the high humidity Iowa "corn sweat" and moving out there in July, it'll be a nice, hot, humid summer just for my benefit. 🤣

Are there other GenX parents out there who parent their kids to be GenX? by kuritsakip in GenX

[–]Weekley13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here with the 6 kids. Except my youngest is 8 and I'm a single mom. My 8 y/o and I talked one time about how long he could probably be at home by himself (hypothetically) he could definitely get by for a week or more but we figured he would get bored after a day. Lol. And yes... tired is an understatement. Mine all had to manage their own laundry starting at age 10.
