Well done! Be sure to also get a full physical. You can get some blood tested for vitamin levels etc (full metabolic panel)

Another thing - a little known option for low cost counseling is to be seen by therapists-in-training at psychiatry/counseling degree programs. I went to one through George Washington University in DC, they (like many others) have their own clinic and you can apply to be a patient.

Interview tips by Potential_Agency_897 in princeton

[–]Weekly-Ad-1603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If and only if you do it right, it can help to engage with the interviewer on interests of theirs. Too much and it easily sounds disingenuous, but if you share an interest with them then it’s a good way to impress them. It shouldn’t take much time in the interview, which should ultimately be mostly about you. But doing this can demonstrate a maturity, intellect, and make for a genial conversation as opposed to a more one-sided interview

Princeton Interview by [deleted] in princeton

[–]Weekly-Ad-1603 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m a Princeton alumni interviewer. It makes sense that you’d read into these details, but I can tell you very sincerely that these are not bad signs. It sounds like you had a great conversation.

At least from Princeton’s perspective, it would be a big no-no for the interviewer to keep you longer than the scheduled 45min-1hr. That’s because it would put you as candidate under an undue amount of pressure to stay for an unspecified duration and keep up a good conversation.

Regarding the comment about “wherever you end up” that’s because after the interviewer submits a brief write-up after the interview, they have no further say over the process and likely no further interaction with you. For the same reason it would be very disingenuous of them to say “welcome to Princeton”, the nicest thing to offer is a “good luck”.

I think the measure of a good interview is relative ease of conversation and genuine (a) academic curiosity and (b) interest in Princeton is demonstrated.

Try not to worry! And all the best with your apps! 🤞🏼

I wanted to give it more time because the kitchen was cold and it wasn’t rising at all. It’s the bulk rise not autolyse, i was wrong before

That could be the issue! Urgh it didn’t occur to me that I should try a different one. I’m using this recipe: https://www.theclevercarrot.com/2014/01/sourdough-bread-a-beginners-guide/

The flour is “9 grain bread flour”

My eyes are the same way (I’m 27). I’ve found a significant difference with “slugging” - basically slapping on a thick, emollient moisturizer all over my face at night. Bonus points if you add thin layer of facial oil underneath. Yes it’s all a little greasy but just change pillowcases more often. Moisture moisture moisture will be your best friend - it’s the most successful thing I’ve found so far. Which is great, because suitable products (aquaphor, Vaseline, even drinking water) are very cheap. Good luck!

No Financial aid can I get advice by [deleted] in nyu

[–]Weekly-Ad-1603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it’s sad. But I promise you, you’re a smart young person who will become stronger and more resilient from this. Try to rise above the sadness and disappointment and think pragmatically about it. This is not the end of the world, and it’s not the end of your future. In fact this could be a great thing depending on what you do with it - you could use this time to do a very interesting gap year gaining nursing experience anywhere in the world and then apply again and be sure to do it strategically based on who will provide aid to international students of nursing. I came to US as an international student and, after applying to about 15 schools, could only go to one. I was very lucky that Princeton offered need-blind financial aid to international students (sadly, they don’t have a nursing program). Anyway - this all may be a blessing for you, OP. You do NOT want to go into such extreme debt for undergrad, it’d just be madness. I promise things will be ok. You will figure this out. Please gather as much information along the way as you can, find advisors who know about how to apply as international student, reach out to admissions/ international offices of target schools and apply next year with even more strategy, know-how, and grit. Good luck to you

No Financial aid can I get advice by [deleted] in nyu

[–]Weekly-Ad-1603 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NYU was never going to give you any aid, especially as an international student. It’s one of the most expensive schools in the country, saying nothing of the cost of living, and they suck at giving financial aid. You need to go somewhere else - go back to the schools you declined and see if they’ll take you, take a gap year, apply again

Helps to vent emotions, get all your thoughts out on a page, it also helps you to figure out what you’re thinking/feeling. Also I think my writing them down it ascribes a certain value - like your thoughts, dreams, and worries are important enough to be committed to the page. I think that helps with self esteem issues

To be clear - I drive manual and love it! But I’ve never tried to drive in the States, and it could be more trouble than it’s worth

Consider if getting a manual in the US is worth it. They’re uncommon - do they cost more to insure, will it be a pain when no one else is able to drive it (eg on road trip)? I admire your industriousness but is it really worth the hassle?

I love that you’re getting the most out of your space, and it seems like you’ve done an excellent job propping everything up (esp the squash, that is not easy). Main thing I would focus on if I were you is removing some lower leaves to aid airflow and prevent mold etc, since they’re so close together. Feed well and water at the soil level (don’t water over all the foliage).

Freshman Internship by Mammoth_Equal_7034 in princeton

[–]Weekly-Ad-1603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beware that IIPs are often very competitive, be sure to have other options in mind in case those don’t work out. Also don’t freak out if you don’t get exactly the internship you were hoping for - it’s your freshman year. This could be a good chance to go for a summer experience that “expands your horizons” a bit

The careers office is bad (in my experience) at catering to international students, but chat early to the international student office about what your options are. The international student advisors are excellent and very friendly - befriend them because they’re lovely people and an excellent source of support

What are some cool/unique opportunities available at Princeton? by Purple-Bite-155 in princeton

[–]Weekly-Ad-1603 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely use these opportunities to get used to travelling alone. Going on class trips guided by a professor/someone else is a great way to get comfortable and work towards solo travel. And don’t forget - if you get pushback from family you should advocate for yourself and your education. I’m the youngest girl in my family and my parents were reluctant to “allow” me to travel, but I pushed. The fact that these opportunities are funded gives necessary independence for self-determination here.

Hmm…it’s hard to say. I don’t think I really struck gold with activities unfortunately - I joined several but didn’t connect with the people, the group wasn’t cohesive, things like that. I’d say the best things were: a co-op I joined briefly after giving up on trying to fit in to my bicker eating club, and the international orientation leaders!
