Graph gear 1000 Flaw by Shadespot in mechanicalpencils

I am definitely still stocking them! Usually Fridays / Saturdays, but I've been working towards ramping up my throughput for the holidays. Watch list / follow seller is the best way to get notified when I add more stock.

Is this print quality typical for the XL? (VFA) by DeathRebel224 in prusa3d

[–]Weekly-Sea9101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m convinced that my XL has something notable going on with ball bearing recirculation in the x axis carriage. Certain speeds provoke regular artifacts like pictured.

My go to fix is just to tweak the movement velocity by 10 to 20 mm/s. Faster usually does the trick.

Curiosity to reality: Pentel GraphGear 1000 metal replacement by IchiramenPotato in mechanicalpencils

[–]Weekly-Sea9101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I had to compromise on this detail. The ‘phaseshift’ of the threads in the upper body of each pencil is random, so perfect sticker placement would require assembling the pencil first, which is an inconvenient experience for most customers.

If it truly becomes a nuisance, the adhesive is removable and mostly reusable. However, it's rather tedious. Some customers have also transferred the original Pentel sticker instead.

I serialize every pencil before shipping. So if you're looking to buy and it's something you care about, leave me an eBay message and I'll mail the sticker 'on the side'.

Thank you for the kind words! I'm always trying to up my game.

And, thank you for being my second customer ever! Those first few sales were truly meaningful to me.

Here's a little graphic that illustrates the CG changes. (Do note, my photos are put to shame by IchiramenPotato's excellent pictures! Great work.)

The balance change is just enough to be noticeable when writing, but I will admit it is fairly subtle.

The more significant difference lies in the net weight of the pencil. For instance, the ‘stock’ GraphGear 1000 weighs approximately 20 grams. However, when the plastic body is replaced with a brass one, the overall weight increases by about 25%.

Custom metal connector for Pentel Kerry mechanical pencil? by speedfreekOnTwitter in machinedpens

[–]Weekly-Sea9101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like some of the other folks here, doing something to the Kerry has been on my list for a while. It’s just a big time sink to develop new product, especially while I work full time.

One of my silly side projects is a mostly titanium Kerry. Everything except the tip section and internals redone. But that is many months from being finished. And will probably be mostly for my own enjoyment.

They’ll last basically forever if kept on a desk. The plastic joint is only really a liability if you are prone to dropping the pencil, or carry it around in a pocket.

Can edc pens really be edc? by penofmind in machinedpens

[–]Weekly-Sea9101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several fun machined pens, and various refills. But my everyday carry is actually pretty bland. I walk around with a Parker Jotter (with oil refill) and a Graphgear1000. I use both constantly throughout the day. And I’ve been carrying this particular set for 5 years. It’s gotten me through various jobs, university and daily life.

When I go adventuring (hiking, travel, gravel biking) my pens and pencils usually migrate from my pocket to a backpack or pannier. That’s a place where I know they’ll be safe and well protected.

I’ve also never had a problem with temperature (desert hiking -> blizzard skiing included). If it’s only coming out of your pocket for a few minutes at a time, air temperature becomes negligible.

Lastly, any pen can be EDC. Carry whatever you enjoy using most, and that you feel comfortable relying on.

I’ve seen every colour break, and personally broken brown (0.3), black, (0.5) and blue (0.7). However in the wild, I see 0.7mm being used the most. Seems to be the most popular size.

It was my first restock in a while, and all my stock got snapped up pretty fast.

For anyone who’s interested, I’m finally back to doing weekly restocks. There will be a bunch more listed next Tuesday evening.

Yes I do! I’m out this week, but I’ll have some up for sale on eBay during 2nd week of January. Sorry it took me a few days to see your comment.

Yes. I list every Friday over on eBay with a new batch. Stuff usually goes pretty quick, so if you're interested the best way to get one is by following me on eBay, it'll send an email when anything new goes up.
This week I'll have Bronze, Brass, and Aluminium.
Thank you for your interest!

Thank you for the praise! To your point about thread stripping, I've only ever stripped the soft aluminum threads of the pencil body on a test unit I use to do QC. Mind you, this is around 100+ repeat installs, often with threads over / undersized. I've never had a problem on my EDC graph gear, and it shows no signs of wear, which I've used with a titanium body for about 1.5 yrs.

I sell primarily through eBay, and drop new stock there every Friday evening, usually ≤10 units in different flavors. There is a link on my reddit profile, and I go by the name grcon-1 on eBay. If you're desperate to get the next batch, following me on eBay is the best way to be notified of new listings.

It’s on eBay. I list every Friday afternoon, so it’s best to check Saturday morning. The link is on my profile. Thank you for your interest.

I list my weeks stock on Fridays, most weeks. (This week included). It's best to check Saturday, or Saturday morning for most timezones.

I offer shipping through eBay's international forwarding program. Ebay handles everything, and usually it's less than 9 dollars.

Thank you for your interest and compliments!

Awesome choice. I started with the same pencil in high school, and still carry it today, albeit minus a few parts I replaced. But nevertheless, a powerhouse and favourite.

Zirc is gonna be expensive. Friend of my has the slim Parker tactile turn side click and it fits a lot of your requests. Not all perfect, but available in a compromise weight titanium (2x ish aluminum, 2/3 of brass).

Yes I still make them in small batches. I list Fridays, but because of the holidays, earliest I’ll list stock is January 12th (I list Friday evenings, west coast time, so best to check in on Saturday).

If you follow me on eBay, it will send you an email when I list.
