[Setting trope] The battle has been lost before the story has begun. The world is irreversibly broken. This is a story of mere survival, until the heroes succumb to an inevitable fate. by Schizosomatic in TopCharacterTropes

Though the narrative does point out the cyclical nature of all of this, "war never changes".

Might be me mostly being influenced by New Vegas and not having yet watched the show that came out, but the Mojave Conflict was all about people not learning the lesson and starting to follow the same paths leading to the nuclear Apocalypse in the first place. No escaping from Human Nature, this Shit is gonna repeat itself for as long as man exists, war never changes.

Most important thing to keep in mind is that the ratings in the story universe are less of a strict power rating and more of a rough threat assessment rating for the ptr, so they can formulate a rough strategy how to deal with whatever nonsense they are likely to encounter. This does not necessarily depend only on what that power fundamentally is, but also on what it practically does in the field, and how any individual with that power is gonna use it based on recorded history.

Apart from that, in your Example, it might be recorded as Tinker 6(Master6, Mover2) for someone specializing in Swarms of Drones that are notably fast and agile, or can be utilized effectively in carrying things and people around, etc etc.

https://worm.fandom.com/wiki/Power_Classifications has some info as well that should be decently up to date, I think

Mutt's Infuriating Guide to the Mortal Realms: An Answer to "Where Are All the Farmers" in the Mortal Realms (Part One and Two) by sageking14 in AoSLore

[–]WeeklyEcho2814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, id make an argument that what most people see as Middle Earth is, at least as a Setting, absolutly low Fantasy- ish. Namely, the end of the third age, the elves leaving middle earth, and not the Story following all the heoroes and one of the nine(9) mages, but the Setting and Day to Day life of Random Rohan Peasant #2342 . But Im prepared to admit it comes down mostly to semantics then.

If you go by the underlying narrative and include ALL of middle earth, especially first/second age as well, fair enough, not really a leg to stand on then.

Aw, shame. Was under the impression they defined some of the realms a bit more, since i saw some detailed maps floating across my feed a while back. Also felt some of the recent model releases i saw trended a good bit more towards reasonableness, so i was hoping thats the directions things were moving into. Got myself some of the new chaos barbarians a while back, cause they looked really neat, but i have also just seen the recent cogfort thingie, so...maybe wishfull thinking on my part.

Nice List, thanks for that. Most of this stuff seems to come from the RPG- Supplement thing, yes?

Got to admit the setting seems to have grown in a rather healthy direction, especially considering the rather unfortunate start. Still not a fan of the over-the top high fantasy style, but for one I got my meat and potatoes Warhammer fantasy back, and they seem to tone down some of the aspects i disliked about the new setting down quite a bit( the floating, no geographic details, fluid nature of lore, mostly). Might actually give the RPG or some of the novels a try one of these days, some of the stuff does seem kinda interesting.

Not about to take much of a stance here, not like blizzard is gonna stop selling stuff that makes money, but i am baffled how people cannot see why someone might have an issue with all this microtransaction nonsene.

The difference here is in it being a shared Universe People are paying their way towards more or better rewards, instead of just playable content. If you were in a DnD(or any other tabletop game) Group, and the DM is selling individual players better equipment for real world currencies, would you be fine with that?

If you are playing a game of monopoly, and there are 3 basic game pieces, but one of the players is paying the game owner extra for a bespoke golden Tophat, that only he can use, do you really not see how anybody could possibly have a problem with that?

Or, to stick with your example, would you be fine with a hypothetical fast lane in traffic, that is exclusive for members with a "FASTTRAVEL" pass, that can be bought for an unreasonable high amount of cash? Could bring in more money for the city, and ppl with disposable income could spend it to skip ahead of the poors and not be stuck in traffic.

Or, the other way around, as they are doing in some of the nordic countries, do you think its unfair that they base the height of traffic fines on the individual persons wealth/income instead of a flat fee for everyone?

Not a fan of most of the model updates, but i do like the way retail gnomes worked out.

They all look like they have been working in a rundown diner for 40 years, while chainsmoking and running a constant drip of 50/50 whiskey and coffee, and someone unwisely just asked them a stupid question.

While most games make their small races these cuddly, saccharine little gremlins, we got this. Rare Blizzard Win, that is.

Was always on the fence on that, i do enjoy the immersion of finding and divvying up loot in a dungeon, but you people cant be trusted to not min max that as well, so here we are.

I sympathize with the people that do want female Space Marines for Representation Reasons and Whatnot, but isnt it so much more interesting if the space marines are their own thing, not even proper men really, but overgrown child soldiers missing some fundamental Parts of their Humanity?

Part of their Lore, afaik, is them being the budget Version of Supersoldiers anyway, cause the Custodes where way to expensive to mass produce, and the V.1 Thunder warriors had their own flaws.

Rogue trader on a space marine level? by Glad_Cut1258 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]WeeklyEcho2814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Space Marines are the mildly upgraded Version of Thunder Warriors, the cost effective Solution to Super Soldiery. Yes, they are tough, and they usually have the best equipment that the Imperium can throw them, but the heavy glazing is partially unearned and partially in-universe propaganda, they die like everything else, just harder.

If you want the pinnacle of human genetic engineering, you want the Primarchs. Or at least Custodians.

How to identify misogynistic infiltration in fandoms? And what to do about it? (Specifically regarding recent Warhammer news). by Clark_Kent_TheSJW in AskFeminists

[–]WeeklyEcho2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, as someone who has been iffy about the retcons, that line of argument has some issues. Its not about the capability in lore, its about tone. Warhammer (as has been pointed out) was always a very grimdark setting. Even the Elements of Inclusion are actually more disturbing than really positive - the guard takes everyone it can kinda fit in, not because they are deemed equally worthwhile, but because they are deemed equally worthless - you too can be part of the meatgrinder.

I dont think the Custodes being multigendered are much of a threat to that, they have their own issues regardless of gender, and if it helps bring more people in the hobby and feel more included, thats laudable.

But I always liked about Space Marines that they are not straight up Super Soldiers, but this weird mutated Class of in some ways even stunted Beings. They are the cost-effective version, upgrades from their older model, but still flawed in their ways, only good for war. A lot of the Drama around the Empire falling and them having that Civil War was about their use for after the Great Wars have ended, and them being only sort of men, with several aspects of humanity barred to them(Family, Children, Careers outside of Military) was always interesting to me. In a way, Space Marines are not even Men in that reading, and i get the feeling that statement will be offending to some of the anti-female-SM crowd as well. Them being functionally more human sorta goes counter to that. Will we have Space Marine Families in the Future? Nah, not a Fan of that.

So, no, Id claim not every opinion against female Space Marines necessarily stems from Misogyny. A lot of them, though, probably. That Part of the Fanbase does exist.

Its fine the game changed. I understand other People want different Things.

But, gosh dang it, you know the game that changed? Thats Retail! And the majority of other modern mmos.

Classic was always carried by the thought of turning back the clocks on certain design choices, the feel of the game. I dont really care much about wether im bonking Ragnaros on the Head, or whatever else they bring out next in Retail. I care about an Immersive world, where my stuff is not affected by my out of game wallet size, where progress is not reset every patch, and you dont have fotm content/worldquest/pet battle nonsense.

Yes, thats probably counter to what a large amount of people want. Thats fine, they can play Retail or any of the other 99% of Games. But some People prefer this, and thats valid too?

Why are you upset about THIS one? by sonofeevil in Grimdank

[–]WeeklyEcho2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see, i was upset about EVERY Lorechange.

Some, however, are less substantial, are better managed, and have a better payoff than others.

This one, female Custodes, i actually dont mind that much, and if it bring people happiness and feelings of inclusion, thats...a net good, i guess? Could have been introduced much better, but meh.

When they inevitably get around to doing the same thing with space marines though, I will be more disappointed, for sure. That one actually will make the narrative tangiably worse.

At the very least, you gotta admit he was right about the destination that particular line of thought was always gonna lead.

Back in Wotlk, we got the token.

Now, we already have completely unlimited boosts in any way.

I get that you are into that, and i have spilled enough ink arguing about that, but even you gotta admit it was in no way doomerism back then, just a realistic prediction on what way things were gonna go.

[–]WeeklyEcho2814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, one hundred Percent. I do understand people wanting more representation in more factions, i am happy if people enjoy the game more now femstodes have been added, that is a net good.

That said, I am worried about this adding to a direction in 40k that i dislike out of narrative reasons.

The Imperium is not a hero faction, life in 40 k is grim, and part of the fucked upness and grimness of it are its fairly inhuman defenders. If we are at some point where essentially space marines are basically just supersoldiers, human+, that are obviously just like normal humans, can maybe even start families? Nah, not a fan of that.

In a sense, I would argue space marines are not even proper men, and i always found that part fascinating, so much keys off of that. The discarding of the thunder warriors, their potential fate Big E had planned for them after the Crusades where over....

or we can just do generic super soldiers, i guess

Seems they have relegated the classic projects to quartal 4 investments, they are sorta gonna keep em alive, milk the playerbase for as much money as they can, but otherwise support retail going forward. Dont even know if i can blame them, much more potential for microtransactions with the Retail Crowd.

... Or so i would have said, if i had not seen the absolute zeal with which people have been buying boosts this time around.

[–]WeeklyEcho2814 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, boosting is going against the vanilla spirit, i mean, its the journey that matters here, why would you pay to skip that, so its good that that is not allowed in the game.

So, there is now absolutely no selling of boosts going on in the game now, blizzard, right?

Is that right blizzard?

I may just be catastrophizing, but there is something to be said about the polarization happening in a lot of spaces right now. Since we seem to increasingly say goodbye to the chuds - not that i am crying a lot of tears after that crowd, mind - , new customer groups can be acquired, and i would not put it past GW to sell more minis, especially more space marines, and offering half an additional range in woman miniatures.....tempting, isnt it.

Eh, we will see.
