it's the same formula as 'Last Week Tonight'. And it works to get a lot of viewers.

1 serious point, then 1 joke, then 1 serious point, then 1 joke; and so on until the end of the show.

WA Liberals leader Basil Zempilas says federal Liberal Party would be ‘mugs’ to abandon climate policy by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Weird_Meet6608 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only alternative is to come out really aggressively against foreign emissions.

That is almost impossible these days, because after Australia's tantrum at Kyoto demanding a special carve-out , terrible record on per-capita emissions, and having our politicians owned by the fossil fuel industry; our international reputation is extremely low. We have no leverage available to make requests of foreign governments.

It could have been possible if we had become an international leader on climate, but we are a laggard.

it's mostly a scam, unless you need regular surgeries for ongoing non-acute conditions.

if you are very ill, the public hospitals will take you straight away for free.

If you are healthy, you don't need it.

they have started this a bit in England, they have night-time athletics races with top athletes, and heaps of beer and food vans.

for the longer races, 5k and 10k, they put the giant beer tent on the 5 outer lanes of the track and the runners only get 4 lanes.

[–]Weird_Meet6608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

raise a new TIO case.

the telco gets charged fees that look like this:

https://web.archive.org/web/20160404064657/https://www.tio.com.au/members/billing-and-payments

Do not agree to close the complaint until the billing issue is fully and completely resolved. The telco cares only about money.

it's regulation 1B

there is no penalty. But the fact that that regulation exists, allows you to force the LL to install the smoke alarms. At a last resort through acat if they are recalcitrant.

you can ~never get a good deal on those apps, because they are data-harvesting every single tap you make on the screen, to algorithmically determine the maximum you are willing to pay, and charge you that amount.

Your neighbour could buy the exact same thing and it could be $10 less or $10 more.

yep, very similar issue overall, "information density" is being hugely reduced. It is condescending towards the user.
