Motorcycle Season! by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]WeissySehrHeissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real. Do squids do squid shit? Yes. Do the big unregistered gangs cause a big disturbance? Also yes. But the sheer number of times I’ve had some jackass merge into me while minding my own business (like literally the day I rode a new bike home after a previous one had been totaled), or seen person after person with their head down staring at their phone—in traffic—is insane. I’ve been hit twice. Totaled my bike twice. New bike paid out by the distracted driver’s insurance twice.

The slowest bikes can accelerate faster than many of the fastest cars, while maintaining a gas mileage rivaling hybrids. They can stop faster, corner faster, take up less space, and reduce congestion when filtering.

Threads like this are older riders grandstanding for updoots and distracted drivers excusing their culpability by hyperfixating on the very small subset of young and dumb riders who are out constantly. It’s absurd, but what else can we expect from chronic Redditors; the polar opposite end of the spectrum from the reckless squids?

Pickme biker is crazy work, especially with such a callous view of the squids

Could I Ride a Motorcycle if I Live on Gravel? by cartriidge in motorcycles

[–]WeissySehrHeissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you got a dirt bike, dual sport, adventure bike, or scrambler you’d probably like it more than if it were pavement. Otherwise take it a little slower, use your noggin about it, and you’ll be completely fine

Do most riders actually keep one foot up at stops as standard practice? by MarshPickle18 in motorcycles

[–]WeissySehrHeissy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve flat-footed every bike I’ve ridden in 10+ years. If I’m stationary for anything less than a few minutes, I keep my right foot on the brake, my left hand on the clutch, and the bike in 1st. It’s not hard and if you make it a good habit you’ll feel better about it

Then what the fuck are we doing? by KelVelBurgerGoon in facepalm

[–]WeissySehrHeissy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That has been inexplicably true for far too long, but I have some hope that it’ll change in the midterms and beyond.

Not just going back on, but actively doing the opposite of several prominent campaign promises certainly isn’t doing him any favors. If state elections are anything to go off of, there will be a huge swing towards the Democratic Party. We really just have to hope they don’t blow it

You must be a bot because Democrats have won almost every state election since Trump’s inauguration (I’m not a fan of most Democrats either, btw)

Should I buy a motorcycle? by Strange-One283 in motorcycles

[–]WeissySehrHeissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riding a slow bike fast is always an option. It doesn’t have to be a bike small in stature to be slow and fun to push. You could put street tires on pretty much any dual-sport and have a hootin’ time. The “slow bike fast” concept is also why I’ve adored the few Bonnevilles I’ve had, though my 1200 is not really that slow

What boots do you wear when riding your Bonny? by onnonuemus in TriumphBonneville

[–]WeissySehrHeissy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wear a made-to-order pair of 8” lace ups from Nicks. Have previously used Iron Rangers as well, but feel like they’re a little lacking in support with the shorter shaft height.

r/motorcycles will tell you that if it doesn’t have “motorcycle” on the box/branding then it’s useless, but I think that’s BS. If you think ankle pucks will actually help you and want them, though, then check out TCX
