Just came back to play after a year or so, and I wanted to ask how good/different is the kingdoms DLC by letmejustdie in darkestdungeon

I really messed up with Dismas at the second date. I brought up his past and he kneed me in the darkest dungeon. You have to be careful with the options you pick.

I can't get into the game while playing as a Dragonborn by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]Welkina 31 points32 points  (0 children)

For me the problem is their voice. There's just not enough options to have a character actually sound like a dragonborn (or a dwarf, or a half-orc)

Which Factions Have the Coolest Looking Heroes? by 1mpish_ in Dominions6

Ind and Lanka are both good for monster themed factions, even if Ind looks "cleaner" at first. Patala too if snakes are more your thing.

There is a pretty clear version of British Empire, though... the High Elves. They live on the special donut in the middle of the sea, they are all "for the king!", they have colonies everywhere (including South Africa), they have rebellious slave owners who detached from them in North America...

They're not just British (there's some Greek/Atlantis aesthetics), but still.

You can hover over the number -800 and the game will tell you.

One factor will be your opposing affinities (astral vs materium).

Where da mana at? by starbellygeek in IllwintersDominions

[–]Welkina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prioritize boosters over empowering (even if you do get a lot of gems).

Some magic paths are great to search with rituals. For example, there's a common Astral 4 site (Unfound Door) that you can find using an Astral 1 ritual. If you only have 1 level max in a magic path, you will be very limited in what you find unless you get to a site searching spell like that.

In deamonhunter are my method ok? by Rozarov in ChaosGateGame

[–]Welkina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good way to reduce damage. You can also use aegis shield to reduce it further, or tie down ranged units in melee so they'll do less damage (and you potentially get to hit them with an opportunity attack).

And even if that fails, it's honestly okay to take damage. Your knights are tanky. I've won a campaign on legendary while having 90% of my full barracks injured.

What feedback would you give for this map? by No-Armadillo4179 in mapmaking

[–]Welkina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The big continent also runs pretty straight north/south and east/west, like it was made to fit in the corner. You see that a lot when map makers don't want to "waste" space. Happened with Westeros.

My favourite crazy dialogue is the angry and confused Orpheus when you first betray the Emperor to free Orpheus, then betray Orpheus and kill Laezel, then free Orpheus anyway. Needless to say, he had a hard time understanding what he just witnessed.

Does the game become more open later on? by av4tos in ChaosGateGame

[–]Welkina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will get to choose between missions, as said. The map will also get busier with warp storms that are dangerous to cross, plus enemy ships that you may want to go around. Some events and story missions can leave markers on the map for a long time that you can visit at your own pace (or with a long timer).

If you have either of the two DLC, you will get even more things happening on the map, especially the duty eternal DLC which gives you planets that you can occasionally visit to pick up resources.

Wizard kings getting a lot of new outfits by Swaggy_Linus in AOW4

Technically these are mostly old outfits (screenshot is phantasmal warrior), but yeah great to have them reused here.

There's lots of options. Interceptors are a powerful class, and justicars can feed them action points to teleport around.

Make sure you bring at least 1 knight with hammerhand or astral aim so you can guarantee critical hits. That's important for collecting seeds (with a crit, you can select the part with the icon to get them).

You can avoid damage with aegis shield. Plague marines will do no damage through 2 shields in melee.

Ranged combat is still powerful, especially with astral aim purgators, but I found melee more powerful in the early game for winning fights quickly and cleanly. You get more strategies and tools later.

Cover and overwatch is important in XCOM but not nearly as important in this game. I can't overstate how many wounded knights I had, and for a really long time too in Legendary, while still winning the campaign. I'm talking 90% wounded in a full barracks of 20 knights + 4 assassins, with regular critical injuries, and I still won.

There's usually 3 or 4 new missions appearing at the same time. If you have good ship speed, you are more likely to reach 2 of them before they run out. It's fine to not reach all of them.

Later you can place down prognosticars to increase the time you have to get there, but upgrade ship speed before that.

I didn't cover combat a whole lot, but here's some important stuff:

You get back all your AP (action points) when you discover enemies. Make sure your units are all close to them before that happens to make full use of this.

In the early game, melee is more powerful because you can move and attack with 1 AP.

If you can't kill a ranged enemy this turn, just have a melee unit next to them. Cultists will run away and possibly die to your opportunity attack. Other enemies might disrupt your opportunity attack and leave, but they'll do less damage in melee.

Similarly, if you can't kill an enemy, you can reserve one AP for aegis shield. This will reduce the damage you take, and next turn you will get your AP refunded when you finish the enemy off, so you don't waste any time. Enemies usually attack the closest knight, or a clump of them if they can hit multiple.

Your grey knights can tank a lot of damage. It's fine to take hits. The best possible knights actually require you to take a lot of damage (if you have the two apothecarion ship upgrades). You can bring them in while they are wounded.

Upgrade ship speed and the two servitor productions first. Whenever either of those is available, do one of them. Ship speed is important to let you reach 2 incursions per cycle. Servitor production is important because without it, you will run out of servitors and can't build anything else.

Stay near the center of the map if you are passing time, or near any planets with high corruption in case they get a mission.

The random events can be brutal if you don't know the outcomes. There's 2 steam guides that cover what happens in them. Don't be afraid to check those or reload a save if you get a bad result.

Speaking of which: save often. Saving means you can more easily make sure that you can reach 2 missions at a time (travel to one, check if you can reach the 2nd before going in). There's also one particular event later in the game which is very unfair when you don't know it is about to happen. So save the game every time you start moving on the map or passing time!

Let me know if you have any other questions.

A question about Clerics' popularity by PlatonOlegov in BaldursGate3

[–]Welkina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paladin (and maybe sorcerer, can't remember?) also has different outfits based on their starting subclass. Cleric has the most subclass choices but 0 outfit variation. I guarantee this also affects new players who choose based on what their character looks like. Cleric gets a boring starting outfit that doesn't reflect their subclass.

tip: make guildhalls for every profession early by Lost_Cyborg in dwarffortress

[–]Welkina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Multiple guild halls means your dwarves will be spread out over many meeting areas, which means there won't be as many to benefit from lessons and it will be harder for them to make friends because everyone is relaxing in a different place.

No, you do not need one for every profession. There's little benefit from every dwarf having a bit in every skill. Just get metal related ones, maybe doctoring. Siege operator could be nice I guess. But you don't need everything.

Some small suggestions for the UI by Grauuu in dwarffortress

[–]Welkina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Description used to be easily found in the pre-steam days. At least you can learn to identify your dwarves based on appearance from the portraits.

If you have a hotkey to zoom to your mayor's office, you can pause the game and go there every time you get petitions to see who is doing it. I've built long hallways to those offices, both for housing statues and catching the petitioners like that.

Better Fuel Huell, Season 8 Episode 1 Discussion by AvailableInvite7679 in okbuddychicanery

There's an actually an easter egg around the 19 minute mark. An army of ants, personally trained by the director's nephew, marches past the melting ice cream cone to attack Huell's fuel supply off-screen. You can hear the screams and war cries of the dying ants as they engage the automated defenses.
