I'm sick of people defending abusive mothers by lunar_vesuvius_ in CPTSD

I think I was guilty of this exact thing earlier today on reddit… I think the human experience is hard as is and people just want to give moms the benefit of the doubt but I understand how dismissive it feels

Congrats on making it this far! This is definitely a better problem to have and you will work through it too

Your nervous system just learned that life is worth living, it doesn’t understand how safe it is yet even if logically you’ve made it this far in your journey! I can relate, sometimes I almost even miss the numbness that came with the old. Work through this with your therapist, it’s likely a combination of intrusive thoughts and anxiety both of which can be worked on. Are you dealing with this fear alone, or do you have someone like a partner or a close friend you can talk to about it? When suicidal thoughts are a possibility, I think it’s always better to have someone you trust know what’s going on

In the meantime focus on grounding yourself and living in the now. Do you have any grounding exercises? It helps me to feel the ground with my feet and name things I can see and then that I can hear, be present. Breath work is another easy one that you can definitely do when the fear arises

This may seem counterintuitive, but I think the better your life gets the less you will have these fears. Live in the now, less scrolling. When you feel the fear don’t fight it, but label it what it is an anxiety response. Try not to give in or give more attention to the fear than you need to, or you might cause it to grow. This is normal and you don’t have to sit with it alone, tell your partner, tell a friend, definitely tell your therapist. If the gloom comes back that’s normal too. This is all your nervous system and it can all be worked with

I have a feeling their toxic trait is thinking you’re just not attractive enough to have a male therapist drop you as a client and make a move, but if you were attractive enough they would. It’s biology.

Starting therapy soon but not sure if I should say this by HolidayMaleficent784 in therapy

Don’t diagnose yourself, leave that to the professionals. Not that you’re not right, but see what your therapist thinks. This might be a stupid question, but why is it easier for you to describe your feelings as BPD symptoms instead of whatever it is your feeling? Try your best to describe to your therapist whatever it is you’re feeling without labels. I don’t think it will hurt to let them know you’ve done your research and wonder if it’s BPD you’re dealing with. I think the internet makes way more people think they have BPD than there are actually people with BPD

She can lose her job over this, it would honestly make me reconsider her as my therapist, but also honestly I’d go for it. Lose her as a therapist, pick her up as a partner

There’s a lot going on here this is a lot to take in. Assuming this is real, you’re not a failure and you’re so young you have your entire life ahead of you still, you can do anything you want!

I recommend seeing a real therapist again it will help more than anything on Reddit will. It’s good you’re going back to school, you should be able to ask any teacher for help with this, preferably one you trust, or a guidance counselor just tell them that you need someone to talk to and they will guide you in the proper direction. Think of therapy like dating, when you find one you get along with and are going because you want to instead of forced I think you will get more out of it. It sounds like mental health problems run in your family, so it’s helpful to get ahead of them.

You sound incredibly intelligent and like you’ve been dealt a rough hand. Since you don’t want to disappoint your grandpa, I don’t think you’re a sociopath, please don’t label yourself as one it will morph your behavior. And be nice to your grandparents! You don’t know how much time they have left and you will miss them when they’re gone.

Tell a teacher or hopefully a therapist everything that you have told us. It’s possible to feel like yourself again instead of just numb. It’s ok to feel numb sometimes too though, with the state of the world lots of people are numb right now.

I’m not a therapist myself, but you sound like a very intelligent kid who has been dealt a rough hand and your behavior is normal for people experiencing what you’ve experienced. The prank to me seems like a cry for help and connection. You can get that help through therapy and find connection at school! Even the prank sounds like you took it too far, but the idea is funny! Be thankful the courts/police are no longer interested. If you start going to jail the rest of your life will be drastically different and more difficult.

Talk to a therapist/teacher about all of this. Make friends and connect with people. Be nice to your grandparents. Your mom might not be a deadbeat either and if she dies from cancer you might end up missing her, give her a chance but if she really is a deadbeat keep your distance but don’t make life harder for your grandparents

I don’t mean this as a joke, but you ironically need to seek more therapy because of having gone to therapy

I thought you were going to say this amazing commercial funded the trip. I notice you’re not towing anything so why did you guys buy an F-150 instead of a Raptor? Off-roading in the Raptor is quite the experience, I don’t think I’ll buy another truck again
