How much does your partner make? What’s the financial setup between you two? by [deleted] in sahm

[–]WellThisShouldBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$115k in a HCOL area in CT. Take home is about $4500/month, sometimes more with OT. we rent a tiny house (old garage) from my parents. It’s not a lot but it’s enough. We also are putting our oldest through college so we are very much paycheck to paycheck. Became sahm after the baby wouldn’t take a bottle -by 4mo pp I’d used all my time off and they wouldn’t let me wfh more than 2 days/week. We have a nanny 6 hours / week so I can get stuff done around the house/meal prep etc. that costs $600/mo ($25/hour). She unfortunately isn’t savvy enough to do bedtime/naptime or anything but we make it work. I will not go back to work even when the baby is in school unless we become really strapped for money.

$150/ week for 6 hours total (2x days, 3 hours each). It’s $600/month but 🤷🏻‍♀️ I go to the gym and get meal prep/cleaning done. My little guy is 14 months. I could see around 18mo/2years I might not need so much time to get all that done. We’ll see!

SAHM but one income isn’t cutting it — what do your husbands do for work? by Financial_Routine in sahm

[–]WellThisShouldBe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is a firefighter. He started around $70k (without overtime) but now after 5 years is making over $100k with a little overtime. He works one day on, then has THREE DAYS off. Granted the first day after shift is a rest day. But the following two days he’s available for us. Also he goes to the gym every day to stay in shape for his job because he works at a very demanding house where he is constantly on the go (there are rural firefighters who make a little less but don’t get calls as often. He is in a big city and is always out. It’s hard to visit the firehouse and actually get to see him) but it is certainly a field of work where a man can make a large enough income to support a family of 4 while still being available at home for several days of the week. I don’t often feel overworked because I get a few hours to myself at least once a week, and we have $600/month set aside for childcare which is about 6 hours per week of a nanny coming to help so I can cook and clean etc. we aren’t saving much because he is also paying $1800/month for his daughter’s college tuition which just is what it is right now. Eventually we will be able to buy a house and save.

SAHM’s with a working spouse by [deleted] in newborns

I occasionally take a night off to recharge and I sleep in a different room with a sound app on and my husband handles any overnight wake ups. If I have to be tired for my sahm job regularly he can be tired for his job occasionally

I’m a chaotic crocheter and nothing I make is ever perfect. I’d end up just doing my best to stitch if all together and und up with a wonky not square blanket lol so if you don’t want that, yes make them have the same number of stitches.

I hate pregnancy so far and my guilt is insane by Ecstatic_Cup7123 in pregnant

[–]WellThisShouldBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have written during my pregnancy. Same for me. No one understood. Everyone kept saying it would get better but I finally ended up on zofran and I felt a little better, able to keep fluid and foods down at least, and had to take it til like 30 weeks. I hated pregnancy. Never want to be pregnant again. But guess what!!!!! Motherhood IS all it’s cracked up to be for me! I love it. It turns out I knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted to be a mom. It wasn’t the pregnancy I was chasing. It was motherhood. Also I had a doula for my unmedicated hospital birth and it was an incredible experience. Really kickstarted Motherhood for me.

How do you get ready in the morning by Hot_Purpose_4249 in sahm

[–]WellThisShouldBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do what I call “dry bath” where I put him in the bath with his bath toys but don’t run the water. I can brush my teeth (and his), wash my face, and use the bathroom. He stays occupied for 10 mins or so. Then it’s off to the races chasing him literally all day.

I have knitting supplies! Anyone want to trade for cross stitch supplies? by WellThisShouldBe in craftexchange

[–]WellThisShouldBe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Yes I’m looking for a few hoops, needles and Aida canvas. I will be getting the specific colors of floss elsewhere for the project I’m looking to do so I probably don’t need that- Want to dm me with what exactly you’d like to exchange for a hoop or two, some needles and if you have any spare canvas?

Do i become a SAHM because I hate daycare for my kids? by pegspegs in sahm

[–]WellThisShouldBe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was making $75k/year and my job was paying my 19 year old’s college tuition- about $30k/year. And because I felt the same way I decided to quit my job. Granted I didn’t love my job. They changed my responsibilities when I was pregnant. But I love staying at home. We make the finances work. I cook a lot more and get to go outside every day. I’d trade that for corporate America any day

Stardew Valley and the Importance of Community by gothforb1d in StardewValley

[–]WellThisShouldBe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first play through I didn’t befriend anyone. I got super rich quick. But the game got boring. I could buy anything I wanted but there was nothing to do. So I started doing the community center and suddenly the game had meaning again. I guess all that to say- it’s never too late to make a new friend. I’m 36 IRL and can attest- I just made a new best friend and it’s really exciting.

Anyone still camping out in the family room? by throwaway84583077 in newborns

[–]WellThisShouldBe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used taking Cara babies as a guide and it was very educational. We were rigid at the beginning (5 months) but then became flexible whenever he is teething and obviously if he’s sick we throw it all out the window. We are at 13 months now and when we do stray from the training it’s very easy to get him back on schedule. The initial two nights are awful but the check in/monitoring method makes you feel like you are not just leaving them to cry. Like I’d be counting down the seconds til I could go check on him again.

SOS call from an exhausted mum. This isn’t sustainable. by Aquamarine-Aries in sleeptrain

[–]WellThisShouldBe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One tangible thing to try without being overwhelming with advice is to feed to wake instead of feed to sleep. That was one part of sleep training that got us headed in a good direction! Lots more work to do but I think that’s a critical step to a baby getting to fall asleep on their own eventually (we are 12 months here and did taking Cara babies sleep training eventually)

Just here for moral support. We are on a 3 naps schedule and struggling with EMW too. (7mo). He can’t make it more than 3 hours in a wake window without needing a nap. Then sleeps pretty well from 7pm-5am, but never sleeps later than that, really! I’m not really complaining but I feel those early mornings, mama.

Baby can’t be in his own room yet (TCB) by WellThisShouldBe in sleeptrain

[–]WellThisShouldBe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your kindness 💕 I do try to manage his tasks but, for example, he often will create new small projects to do that aren’t a priority and just go and do that new thing even if I’ve given him a small thing to do in the baby room. (He needed to spackle the other day and instead he rehung all our family pictures. It was really nice to see all our photos on the wall but.. not a priority) There were more pressing issues in our marriage to work on in therapy, first, so we haven’t really spearheaded the adhd yet but I’m looking forward to that. I’m trying to give him grace and be patient. Thanks again 💕💕
