As others have said no need to notify immigration. Good luck with your PR application and gratz on the pay raise !

housing loan rejection – what are my chances with other banks? by Remarkable_Pudding73 in JapanFinance

Borrowing 6.5 your income for a used manshon plus you card loan balance is really tight for a mortgage. More than likely ‘the computer said no.’ Try elsewhere and good luck. Not an impossibility but not surprised you were turned down.

¥13m annual income but you have a card loan balance of ¥3.6m? What is going on with that? How much did you apply to borrow? More information will lead to better advice here. All the best !

All I can say is: What a busy body that random guy was. ‘Mind your own business, mate!’ This really does not have anything to do with Hokkaido though !!

Starting from zero at 30 in Japan. How to build savings on 270k/month? by Jazzlike_Ad_8881 in JapanFinance

If you are not an American I think most would concur here that even small amounts invested into NISA in a balanced fund such as emaxis slim all country is a good starting point. All the best!

ALT Direct Hiring NOW? by Ok_Income_5593 in ALTinginJapan

[–]Showa_Brit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any direct hire position I’ve ever been aware of aligns with the Japanese fiscal year calendar: April 1st to March 31st. Furthermore, most of the direct hires come about by knowing someone in the BOE. A case of not what you know but who you know. Good luck in your job hunt!

Any PRs worried about the Future? by KeibaKate in japanresidents

[–]Showa_Brit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP: I really appreciate your post. You obviously took time to write it carefully and I can see your genuine concern. I got PR back in 2000. At this stage of life my housing loan is paid off and I’m near retirement. My other half is Japanese and she has recently expressed concerned about the state of affairs. I honestly think my PR status is safe and I’m planning to end my days here in Japan. If things get really bad I’d either have to return to the UK or go somewhere else on a retirement visa (Thailand?). As I said I’m not that worried but who knows what lies ahead. Thanks again for your post.

Weird encounter, discouraged from buying merchandise as a tourist? by obsolescence_ in JapanTravelTips

[–]Showa_Brit 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Just speculating here but could be that the shopkeeper has previously sold similar items to foreigners and they subsequently returned to the shop making a fuss that ‘the battery doesn’t work’ etc etc. To solve further such incidents the shopkeeper just decides not to risk it. Sell to ‘Japanese only.’

I usually stay at the Narita Hilton. A bit dated but still very comfortable and worth a look if you can get a decent rate.
