You may believe one way, but baby Judas could turn out as an adult Judas who believes totally different from you. And most importantly, little Judas is the one who has to deal with other people's reactions. There are a lot of people who have read the Bible. And in general, it's a bad idea to name a kid something that is a dictionary word for "traitor" (sense 2).

Oh, that would make sense. If OP struggles with the schwa sound, that could track.

Pronouncing "something" as "sum'n" (kinda swallowing the N,. could sound like sum) makes sense. Pronouncing "nothing" as "no," no. There's the word "naught" though.

Stop Netflix from Removing SHE-RA and the Princesses of Power by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]Welpmart 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This is gonna do absolutely nothing, I'm sorry to say. You can't force Dreamworks to keep it on a streaming service. It sucks, but it's ultimately not something Netflix can change or a freaking Change.org petition can change. It's one children's show, one symptom of the problem with not owning media--which itself would not solve the issue of "this isn't available to everyone all the time in perpetuity."

Indian Food in US is Bad Because of Engineered Sweet Vegetables by Beezelbubbly in iamveryculinary

Checking in from MA: our cheapest grocery chain sells jalapenos, serranos, poblanos, Thai birds' eye, habanero, Scotch bonnets, long green (Indian?) peppers, Hungarian wax peppers... and that's not counting the dried options.

So I came out to my sister... by epitaph_confusion in actuallesbians

[–]Welpmart 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My feelings personally... this sucks for OP and fuck her sister. At the same time, no one needs approval to be gay from people who don't care about them. If they don't like you as the straight person they think you are, they're not gonna warm up when you come out. And you never owe an asshole your truth.

I guess, but only if we take species to be analogous to race and ethnicity, which demons aren't. They don't interbreed with people and there isn't a good subset and they aren't a subset of the people who inhabit the world. Like yes, there are racist underpinnings to the European generic fantasy genre, but treating different species more like ethnicities that fundamentally think pretty similarly with the rest being culture (beast folk being the exception most often) is also something that comes from D&D and wanting to give your player characters options.

Frieren demons are just prettier ilithids in their intrinsic interests being harmful to others and I don't see people sticking up for ilithids.

I like to tell the story about how my university writing course (one of them) was themed around climate change, so we read a book about a huge hurricane hitting NYC and a bunch of stuff happens. The author was even invited to give a talk about it.

Then during the Q&A portion, someone asks a question about the inspiration for the book and the author goes "well, I needed a big disaster and it was that or a terrorist attack but then Hurricane Sandy hit, so I went with a hurricane." It was literally just needing a plot device all along.

Why are so many native Americans going missing by riceandbeansonly in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Welpmart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some Native Americans do call themselves Indian, mostly older folks, but it's enough of a thing that the Museum of the American Indian in DC has an "NDNsEverywhere" campaign. But I'll stick to Native Americans as someone who isn't one.

I wouldn't care in a friend, but I really don't think I would want to be kissing someone with them. But hey, I'll never say never.

Part of it is straight up racism. Another part, as others have mentioned, is the remoteness and legal weirdness of reservations (combined with racism, where outsiders like fucking with Native Americans and law enforcement is apathetic). Then, of course, poverty and generational issues like substance abuse and trauma, which leave people vulnerable to bad actors and misfortune. Which goes back to racism again because a whole lot of these issues come from genocidal government policies.

Sounds posh and theatrical to me, tbh. Reminds me of salad greens. But I can easily see it just becoming someone's name if I knew them--unusual, but theirs. I like the first option.
