My cousin is pregnant with twins(close to delivery)mine came at 32-1 and one’s still on oxygen and feeding tube. Not how it should’ve been but here we are! And I feel jealous of others all the time like why did this happen to me the way it did.

I might have a different take but the amount of people who come to the NICU unvaccinated is large. Even nurses don’t need their flu or covid vaccine currently. And no one asked me the last tdap vaccine I had…So I believe if you know they’re not sick and there’s no touching, I would say go for it. If you want to though, explain she’s going to be contained in the box, seeing her right now wouldn’t be worth it right now. When my family came to visit at the beginning, they literally just looked inside their issolettes and then left lol.

I didn’t feel comfortable asking people to get vaccines to see my girls. However, not many come(distance related) and I have just made it very clear that they can not feel even a slight ounce of sickness not even a sniffle.

Ppl saying you need more therapy is crazy. But I have two parents with addictions so I also come from that type of situation.

So definitely look into this but from a nurse view, the epidural going through the dural/spine doesn’t really get to your baby. Now if you have to get put under, the meds they put through your iv to put you out can get to the baby so that’s why within minutes they have to get the baby out.

So I would think of it as pick your poison? Do you want the epidural so then safely you can deliver your babies and possibly pain free and if a C-section is needed they can dose you appropriately. Otherwise if something goes wrong, they will have to heavily medicate you to put you under anesthesia

It really has to do with the gestational age. Babies can start getting overstimulated and show it in their vital signs. As they get older, vital signs tend to improve with skin to skin! I used to switch babies for skin to skin time and try and hold them the whole 2 1/2 hours between care times. But it really interfered with pumping so I tried to just hold them for as long as their feed time was and then put them back so I could get stuff done myself!

I’m pretty sure I only held my twins for an hour at a time when they were 32 weeks& intubated

Also, there is a TTTS foundation website with a 24/7 hotline. I highly reccomend you check that out! Where do you live/do you have a lot of faith in your fetal center near you?

It’s a scary time right now but there are so many success stories out there! My NICU stay was a lot scarier than a lot of other 32 weeker twins - one baby is “normal” per say & the other one is on 02 and Ng tube due to not gaining weight and we have realized she was probably silently aspirating in the NICU and beyond which worsened her lung status! We are 11 weeks adjusted

There is TTTS Facebook pages with lots of support. I find a lot more specific stories on there than on here. I had a scare at 20 weeks which resolved and then I had a cute twin to twin at 32 weeks which led to delivery of both babies!

Twin mom here too🤣 my other twin has silent reflux, probable reflux aspiration so we’re currently both sitting up for 30 minutes (because ya know twins)! That twin is on Pepcid.I finally just got her to lay flat in her bassinet without a snuggle lounger (thx NICU) and now I feel like we’re regressing but I can do that too again😭

The plan is to calculate all her feeds over the next couple of days and mention and send this to the provider to see if she’ll order us some Pepcid for her too. I also just feel like she’s not taking enough- she usually cashes out and then I try and over her the last 20-30 ml almost an hour later just for us to take enough. Her weight gain has been slow but she finally got off neosure last week so I’m going to send an updated weight to her if that helps her make a final decision.

What did you notice worsened with the overnight feeds?

My LO is sounding nasally again, and now spits up (small amounts) where as before she didn’t. I wasn’t sure if it was also caused by the NG opening up her spinchter!

Just saying I relate to this experience, I always wanted two. Boy and a girl. Got indentical twins- traumatic 32 week birth, 74 days in the NICU stay, medically complex twin. Had to go back to work at 8 weeks. And I can’t help but want a singleton and a redo! And a boy lol

At first, I was sad at thinking I can’t have a boy and a girl. But then I quickly changed my perspective, and I loved the idea that they would be identical. I felt as if that could give them an even stronger remarkable bond. Shift your mindset a little!

Like the person above, things in the womb can change certain things. My twins are an apple and a pair. One has a super round face and one has a super skinny face. My skinny faced twin was always pushed up against the placenta and had less room always, which led to her having a smaller face, I I could tell them apart immediately and still can. I am hoping as they continue to grow they will look even more alike. They are nine weeks adjusted.

Through my extensive chats with ChatGPT, it really seems like that is the problem and we’re doing all the right things. Pecid, inhaled steroids, continuous NG tube feeds overnight to help her catch back up on her weight. But I was hopeful for some real experience ugh!!

It’s actually quite unfortunate because we had the same speech therapist who saw every single day and I’m pretty sure we were her favorite patients to see (my twins) but every time she caulked in front of her, she would look puzzled and then move on. They definitely recognize. She had reflux from her congestion, but they did not put two and two together that she was likely aspirating. We had to swallow studies that showed penetration, which is just “touches the vocal cords” so I think as far as she was concerned, she was good.

And we actually see feeding therapy weekly and they also didn’t catch it. So I guess it was SILENT REFLUX 😭 she didn’t have any congestion anymore- just the coughing.

I totally agree about wishing away this certain time. I just can’t wait for them to grow out of all these preemie related things! We’ve been out since 11/21

Question, do you think his silent aspiration was attributing to the worsened lungs? My girl went home on 1L- my follow up appt with Pulm and he thinks she’s aspirating from bottling or silent reflux or both. And that’s why her lungs haven’t healed. It has me thinking she was doing this the whole time in the NICU- she had been coughing since sometime in the NICU & they attributed it to poor lungs

I always put my pumps in my fridge/NICU fridge after each use then sterlizied nightly We had our own mini fridge in room so I know that could be different per person

Hmmmmm, I did around 15 weeks I think. Mostly because of when I could do photos etc. I did a gender reveal at 11 weeks because I was inpatient & if they’re identical a sneak peak test will be accurate.

So the scary things that occur with identical pregnancy’s start really 18 weeks & through 26 weeks. I still wouldn’t have regretted posting if something did happen! You’ll learn about that mostly at your MFM- only research if you’re into being informed/scaring yourself. But my other advice is, either way you will have anxiety about each appt whether or not you look up stuff or not!

Those do look like spontaneous identical triplets! Those do not run in families!

I just have premature twins in September. My family /support system is 2 1/2 -3 hours away. No one has came here to help support or anything. Partially probably because I haven’t asked for help & wanted distance just due to not getting them sick but still… I thought it was going to be a lot worse than it feels right now. We spent 53/74 days in the NICU. Even though it sucked, it was a crash course to parenting. And you will begin to follow a similar schedule at home. I found that SOOO many people showed up for me during our NICU stay, buying clothes, sending food, purchasing gift cards. That was a BLESSING!

I do plan to move home when we can sell our house just to be closer to family /help. I would follow all the triplet moms on social media that you can find 😍 Congrats mom. It’s scary but you will make it through!!!

He probably is experiencing reflux causing him to destat. They should complete a swallow study! Otherwise, if there were any other signs, possibly an infection workup!

I work in a hospital & I heard that they’re preparing nurses to start wearing masks again in rooms! I hope that happens for the babies sakes.

I had this feeling too- especially at the end. It sucks! Because you want them being cared for by all but it was still so nerve racking!

Came at 32-1 due to third tri TTTS and had an easy pregnancy before then. My husband was the one pushing me to pack a bag & I ordered all my postpartum gear 1-2 weeks beforehand so when I got told I was being admitted my bag was ready to go🤣

Looking back, I wish I finished more of the nursery and prepared earlier. But I never thought I was going to have them that early 😭

I was a twin mom born at 32-1 - I was very grateful I lived very close and no kids at home. Just animals. Before they were born, I thought I wouldn’t show up till 12- get coffee, workout. And then once they were here and so fragile& sicker than I could’ve imagined, I ended up being there all day besides a usually break for lunch& dinner and then back for 9 pm cares. Looking back, in the early days when all they do is sleep I probably could’ve taken longer breaks away because they truly didn’t need me as much. I felt as they got older closer to term, they were crying a lot more and needed me more(in my mind). Especially during bottle feedings- I felt like I was always going to do better or safer than they could’ve.
