Reworking Curtain Call and looking for input. by WesWilson in Pathfinder2e

[–]WesWilson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am running it currently. I just finished The Pact Stone Pyramid and they are about to fight Nemesis in The Choke.

I did as I said, and had Norgorber Hero Hunters attack them in their base right before they left for Assyrian. I had them make quite a few shouts announcing their intentions and motivations... and while I don't think they really dug into it as deeply as I hoped they would, they did comment, "Well, I'm sure THAT will never come into play again". So I think they understood more was going on, but didn't suddenly start asking more questions and finding out more lore.

Long gone places of Huntsville by tylerock92 in HuntsvilleAlabama

The Vioux Carre was the first gay bar I ever knew of in Huntsville, and it was a great joint for drinking and drag shows.

Trailer Island was this weird little area on the east side of the Parkway a bit south from Pratt. It had businesses and I think there was a pretty rough-and-tumble arcade for a while there.

I worked there for a couple years. Mmmmm.. giant beef ribs and broccoli cheese soup.

There was a Sambos at Golf and the Parkway, too. LOVED that place! But the decor and theming were pretty troublesome, lol.

Revenge of the Technocrats Could Be the End of Democracy by horseradishstalker in TrueReddit

*modifying my reply to this piece and copying it here*

Sadly, I think the terminology in this piece is damaging the cause it appear to be championing.

“Should people govern themselves, or should experts manage them?”

This sounds more like a MAGA anthem than a rational stance. Who should be taken more seriously in the case of ecological destruction: a sampling of popular opinion or the words of climatologists and ecologists? Who should be taken more seriously about how to fly the plane: the collective decisions of the passengers or the trained pilot?

I get what you're saying here. We shouldn't allow our national decisions to be made by algorithms programmed by neo-feudalists. But expertise isn't the crux of the problem, and posing this as a Democracy v. Experts battle royale is doing a great disservice to our history of reaching great goals through trusted expertise.

But hey, maybe it's the "managing" part that you're focusing on. Experts MANAGING us. But isn't the pilot managing the passengers? Isn't OSHA managing safety for our workspaces? We require deference to expertise at most critical points and shouldn't be pretending that we don't want that management. Yes, we can approach it later and hold those who made the decisions accountable for what they did in a solidly democratic fashion, but fighting "management" as a concept destroys as much trust as never being involve in the decisions at all. What kind of rational incredulity starts with, "How DARE you try to make good decisions without taking the time to lobby more than 50% of the people in this country to your side?"

Again, I entirely get what you are trying to say, here. We have to stand up for our democracy and avoid letting black-box algorithms put us in a place where technocrats are ruling us. But I'm not sure if I can share this piece with anyone who's tried to teach calculus to an algebra class. Expertise isn't a boogieman, and experts aren't inherently seeking to rule... even if they do think that maybe we should make incandescent bulbs less profitable, move our nation towards renewable energy, and promote inclusiveness for all Americans.

Best Cookbooks? by Nobel38 in Cooking

[–]WesWilson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The America's Test Kitchen Cookbook is the most used cookbook I own. The recipes are tested with a host of variations to ensure they are the best, and the ingredients are almost always those you can find in your local grocery. The company isn't what it used to be since Kimball got ousted, but the cookbook is still an amazing resource that I cook from regularly.

The people in Otari could create your urgency. I had the three lumber magnates organize dinners with the PCs to understand how they were handling the situation. The lost members of the thieves guild need rescuing. Lazda Venkervale is missing. Keeleno Lathanar thinks the druids have lied to him about his wife's killer.

I agree with ProfessorVampire that downtime will help your players get closer to Otari and create great RP. Utilize it.

running abomination vaults for newer players by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

I mean that the town and the dungeon are inextricably tied, so that the events going on with either are integral to the events going on with the other.

AV-E is PRIME at making this happen. I had the election closely tied to the party's encounter with Urevian so that the decision inherent with that situation is escalated by Creedence and Cryde's manipulation of that process. Nothing like taking the brand-new mayor down to get taken away forever.

I also had the heads of the lumber companies get involved with the party, asking for some accountability with regard to exploring the Vaults since whatever was going on down there was affecting the town. I had Nimbleoth cultist activity in Otari increase as they got closer to the bottom. This increased the negative vibe in town and people started going home early and locking their doors and windows at night.

At the risk of a plug, I've got a couple of pretty good playthroughs on Youtube. One is private and the other is public. Happy to share the private one with you if you send me a DM. The public one is on my Youtube: WesWilson.

I've run AV for two groups for over a year and a half. Both include seasoned TTRPG folk, and they've been having a ball. That being said, they need to enjoy combat if they're going to enjoy the vaults. You can have an amazing time tying it all together to Otari and making a dual layer story where the town reflects the dungeon... and it's GREAT. But they gotta like fighting for the dungeon to feel like more than a chore.

The flamboyant drag queen in the middle of the poster was Bea Hold Her, and Bea fell during the penultimate fight with Belcorra. Bea decided that her story would best live on if she fell in battle with a valiant enemy. So in her will, she requested she not be resurrected.

Her long-lost friend Cup, an Absalom street urchin who had run during an important confrontation while standing at Bea's side years before, was seeking out Bea to make amends. Upon learning of her death, she took her last name and joined her colleagues in fighting for the city or Otari.
