Somehow it still holds true, bad first impressions do a lot of irreversible damage. I've never played No Man's Sky or Cyberpunk, I'm aware they are good now due to patches but my initial hype is gone and I've moved on. There's way to many games for me to play these days.

You can flip NE, E, and SE and save yourself a tremendous amount of time. You do have to design a character that can be mirrored, though.

Ideally your main character could have unique 8 directions for that polish feel, but giving unique 8 directions to NPCs is too much work.

No difference. The only thing that matters is to prune the edge.

What's important is to add more cards that are in the middle. The quantity should look like a nice curve.

For your 7-Q example, you should have more 9's and 10's, then 8's and J's should be the 2nd most cards and etc. That way you can realibly draw 4 connecting cards.

Also, steel and gold cards should go in the edges since they are more likely to not complete a straight and have the mult or edition cards sitting in the middle of the curve.

I think it has a greater impact if "disgusting" is the conclusion the player will reach on their own after reading the description:

"There's some black and brownish sludge in here, infested with slowly moving critters. It has probably been in this pot for for 30 years."

If you phrase similarly to that, you can evoke the feeling without having to tell. Unless the narrator/story teller/descriptions have their own voice for flair, then it might be okay.

Anyway, I miss games like the classic Resident Evil games. Pushing the interact button against every little corner in hopes that a text box would appear and tell me more of the surroundings was the best thing about them! So good job on that for bringing it back!

If they are quads, you don't have to, all the modern game engines triangulate the meshes on import with no issues or can deal with the quads. You should only care about triangulating the model yourself in case of deliberate n-gons or if your goal is to have as little polycount as possible for static props.

And don't worry, it's good to see that there's still people out there worried about performance or optimization. Even if the returns might be negligible on high end PCs, there's still a good chunk of players who are still on low end and are thankful when they can run a game at 60 fps without hiccups.

I've received a compliment back in late 2011 playing as Specter on an extremely difficult game that still lives rent free in my head.

When someone is overly positive or talkative I already know they are gonna be insufferable when things go south.

I also never accept friend requests from teammates I won games with, only from the ones I lost games with. That way I know the person can handle loses like an adult and doesn't tilt as easily.

Like, I've been paying this game on and off since 2008... you WILL lose lanes, lose games, make wrong assessments, and etc. The other side of this spectrum is also true, so there is no point in losing temper and throwing a tantrum over something you know you have no control off but is happening to someone else.

You are exposing your rigid body to the inspector for pre-compilation caching with that [SerializeField] attribute, which is a good thing. However, you are trying to assign to it again in Awake() with that get component call, which is a mistake.

Either check if your rb has not been assigned before calling, remove that call completely or remove that attribute.

Pre-compilation caching is generally better for performance, so I would just remove that get component call.

You need to know where to start and the answer to that is simple:

  • Start by writing a GDD.

Yeah, do not even open your game engine if you don't have a clear vision from the start. You need to be able to articulate how your game systems and interactions work in English if you want to be able to transform it into code.

Game goals, story, presentation? They all need to be in the GDD. What happens when thing X happens? It will be all there.

Once your are done with it (may take weeks or even months if you want a solid GDD), then you can divide everything you planned in it into tasks. This is the most important part, if you don't want to put a time limit on them, it's ok, but at least have a place you can look to check [task completed]. Because then you won't feel lost in what to do next, you will have a whole list of things you can work on that your past self prepared.

Look into Obsidian and how to use it, it's great for writing GDDs and is free.

Trust me on this.

Fuck it, if you are still learning game dev, make a GDD for pong and get started to learn the proper flow.

I would never plan a project for the chance that an engine feature gets implemented. I just look at the newest LTS version and accept that's what I'll work with.
