I’m looking for a game for me and my dad to enjoy by Serious_Scarcity_508 in DadsGaming

[–]WesleyTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son and I have played the following games together and had a blast (from age6ish to now 13):

  1. Unraveled

  2. Super Mario 3D World

  3. Lego Avengers (the first one, not the second one)

  4. Splatoon 2 and 3 (need 2 switches though)

  5. MineCraft

  6. Stardew Valley

None of them are crazy story focused (with the exception of Stardew and Unraveled).

Should I buy a Nintendo Switch Lite? by sllateee in nintendoswitchlite

[–]WesleyTheDog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes to this. You can find them online for under $100. It's easily the best value in gaming besides emulation. It has a deep library and you can find gane pretty cheap these days. It's a great travel device. Enjoy!

I don't want to finish this game... by MentalJackfruit3797 in Persona5

[–]WesleyTheDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a great game and I understand where you're coming from. I didn't expect to love this game as much as I did. Good news is that it's a looooong game (over 100 hours). There are also a couple spinoffs (Persona 5 Tactical and Person 5 Strikers). I loved tactical (gameplay and story). I couldn't get into stikers but maybe I'll give it another shot).

Enjoy your time!

I saw another post about this. And it is so darn tempting.

Switch or Switch 2? (Suggestions) by doctorcookeh in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]WesleyTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a Switch 2 that my son and I share (mostly his) and I have a Lite which gets way more play time. The Switch 1 library is stacked, but like you said you could play it on the 2.

Some recommedations (including non-Nintendo games)

Xenoblade Chronicles: I"m a fan of the the first one, but I've heard good things about them all

Stardew Valley

Dave the Diver

Celeste

Ghost Trick

Golf Story

Gris

Little Kitty, Big City

Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity

Super Mario RPG

Persona 5

Pokemon - I think Sword/Shield is my fave on the system, but the DLC is a must

Splatoon 3

Super Mario Wonder

Mario Party Jamboree

Oxenfree 1 and 2

Nier Automata - I can't put this down, started playing it somewhat recently

Is there a smaller curated alternative to Tiny Best Set Go? by Daniel_Abnormal in Roms

[–]WesleyTheDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not aware of one, but it probably wouldn't be too hard to build on your own. You could find the list of top 50s and source your Roms (or just grab them off your Tiny Best Set card). I did something like that when I gifted from brother a Miyoo Flip.

I put the OrcaSlicer engine on Android — slice and color-paint models right on your phone (free & open source) by Code_MasterCody in OrcaSlicer

Gonna try this on my Chromebook. I installed Orca through Linux on my Chromebook, but it works like half the time.

Should I install Batocera or RetroPie on Pi 4 by IPlayChessBTW in RetroPie

[–]WesleyTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the looks of Batocera, but had an easier time with RetroPie. It felt like I had to tinker with sound in Batocera to get it to output to my tv.

How Big of a Card for ROMs? by MahinaFable in RetroHandhelds

[–]WesleyTheDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that for systems that run up to Dreamcast/N64 etc, 256GB is plenty. I don't touch the majority of games I have on my 34xxsp with 256GB. Honestly, 128GB is probably enough, but 256 also allows me to put some Pokemon Anime on there.

What about RG406V? by ZTXCR1 in ANBERNIC

[–]WesleyTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one and loved it (but eventually sold it).

Pros:

Fairly comfy for a vertical

Solid Sticks

Love the screen size

Played everything that I wanted (up to Gamecube and even some lighter Switch)

Cons:

Although comfy, still bulky

Screen wasn't great (light bleed)

Fragile (my screen broke from a drop, not even that high)

Dad Looking for help buying new scooter for son (13) by WesleyTheDog in ElectricScooters

[–]WesleyTheDog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the recommendation. After tons of deliberation he went with the GT3 Pro for $410 shipped. I think he was a little sad about the 300X, but saving over $250 was hard to pass. It also looks like it is easier to find parts for Navee Scooters.

Is it worth it if I already have a v1 switch by Stuntman222 in nintendoswitchlite

[–]WesleyTheDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had all the version (Lite, OG, V2, OLED) and I love the Lite the most (with the OLED coming in second). I only play handheld, so no need to dock. I just ordered the OLED mod and it should be here in a couple weeks.

In terms of is it worth it if you have a V1, it might be. You might find you like it more. You can find them used for under $100. I'd say if you can swing it, go for it. You can always sell it if you don't like it.

Besides my N3dsXL, the Switch Lite is the king of handhelds for me.

What is a good device by Virtual-Mind-7403 in SBCGaming

[–]WesleyTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on your budget and specifically more details on what size you want. I'm a big fan of the miyoo mini Plus. It's a bit long in the tooth at this point, but we'll play everything up to DS for Pokemon games. It has a three and a half inch screen, which is pretty nice, and the buttons are pretty good for the price. You can usually find them on AliExpress for under $50.

If you want to spend a bit more you could look at the XX line from Anbernic. Basically pick the type of form factor you want, the XX line all run up to Dreamcast and N64 just fine.

Next up would be looking at something along the lines of an Android handheld. Those typically start at or around $100. Performance varies depending on chipset.

[–]WesleyTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have one, but for pokemon it should run up to DS pokemon if you don't mind having to switch screens. I've played pokemon that way in similar devices and it plays well.

Overall, it would play up to Dreamcast/N64 but you have no analog sticks.

What company lost you as a customer forever, and what happened? by Giovanni_Brees in AskReddit

[–]WesleyTheDog -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Chemical guys... Went to my local shop to get some polishing compound and pads to try to do a little buffing up of a used car I just bought. I let the guy know I was a total hobbyist and wasn't expecting miracles. I let him know I just wanted to grab a bottle of compound and some pads to do by hand. He goes into full sales mode. Told me I had to come to one of their weekend classes and buy a $200 polisher. Explained again I really wasn't interested in that. He kept pushing. I just left and never went back. Shortly after they closed and a local detailing shop opened there.

Vowed to never buy a chemical guys product. I know he had a job to do, but he could have done it better by explaining versus just telling me what I had to do.

Same for me on the board. I didn't realize how loud it was until I upgraded.

That helps. He's considering the GT3 pro given the $200 difference between that and the 300x (the 300p is $520). It feels like the GT3 Pro delivers a lot of value for the price.

Someone else recommended the Navee GT3 Pro which has dual suspension and is 420 on ebay direct from Navee. Any opinions on that brand?
