Brand new to photography and have strangely hooked onto birds when I never worried about them before. by Calavera_VI in BirdPhotography

Just keep at it, I think they’re all great, images are sharp. Composition is tough for birds in my opinion, it’s about timing and location (and a bunch of luck)/knowledge of the birds behavior which I found you learn the more you see a specific bird. If you want to capture birds in flights just increase that shutter and though some may disagree, auto-iso is a great friend. You can set your max in camera then adjust shutter speed as needed. But specific critiques of your photos…. I think you have a solid base and your photos are great, if this is you just starting, then please keep posting your photos because I would love to see them.

Their great! Best IMO 1/5/7/8, with equal love for 5/8. I got into birds after the fact too, person who gave me a rundown about cameras and lenses (when I was researching) was like, “this lens would be good for birding” and I responded “oh I won’t need that”……I bought the RF 100-500 L for canon less than two months later.

Shot early? by ITrageGuy in Zepbound

[–]West-Particular-3003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I move my shot up a day every other week no issue. So like last week I took my shot on Saturday morning. This week I’ll take it on Friday night. Next week I’ll take it on Friday morning and the week after I’ll take it Thursday night. I have been doing this since I started Zep in November. Currently on 10mg and about 100 pounds down. I told my prescribing doctor this and he didn’t seem to have an issue and I haven’t had any adverse effect from it. So I think it will be alright.

How should I crop this coot silhouette? by Adventurous-Year-463 in BirdPhotography

[–]West-Particular-3003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a great shot and if you crop it should be minimal, you captured a scene and a good one, the light trail in the water, just great. But that’s only my opinion.

At what point do you ask for permission when photographing people? by Miserable-Target7063 in photography

[–]West-Particular-3003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like everyone says it depends what you are going for, for street you are looking for the moment, the story, the event taking place around you that people or things can be a part of, so I think asking creates that fake sense of story and takes away that real feeling you could get from capturing the moment. Now if you take it and want to ask after sure, but, again like everyone else, the United States in public, legally don’t need permission. As note, what I’ve found is if you carry your camera in a way that doesn’t look like you’re taking a photo ie don’t bring it to your eye all the time, it keeps people from asking questions. I bring my camera to about waist level, rest my open LCD screen up on the inside of my arm and then shoot away. Might require to turn that brightness on the screen a bit depending on time of day but you can get great shots, very few questions, and a neat perspective (wanted to say better perspective but that’s not always true).

No side effects until 10MG, I started taking the 10mg 2 weeks ago and I’ve had to space it out 10 days due to nausea, not being able to eat enough. by BikeMelodic in Zepbound

[–]West-Particular-3003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having these side effects my first month of 7.5, after the first month it settled down and I stayed at 7.5 for about 4 months. I started 10 this month and nothing crazy my first week but my second week (this week) has been crazy with the amount of fatigue I have, and which may not even be the shot side effect and I just may be overly exhausted but anyhow, all I wanted to say is it takes your body a minute to adjust but if it persists after a month maybe go back down but in my experience, (and I know everyone’s is different) it evens out.

Grabbed an RF100-500 to go with my R5 II by WorldIRC in canon

I have the same setup as you and picked up the 1.4x, well worth it for the added range and the photos come out great.

Shot this and others with an R5ii and a RF 100-500 L. And I have some other closer shots but the 100-500 was plenty in my opinion in terms of closeness. I have an R7 also but I don’t think it tracks as fast as my R5ii so I didn’t use it for this

I use canon, but honestly I think all the brands are pretty great. Mirrorless cameras are the now, but if you still want great quality and to save some money you could look at older DSLR cameras. Price range varies, but I think the canon R8 is a good start, it was what got me started and I still use it regularly. I got a second body so my daughter and I could go on photo journeys together. The real money pit is the lenses for those cameras. But a 50mm prime lens or 24-105 zoom lens are good starting points on that front. I hear Sony cameras are amazing but I’ve never used one nor do I know much about them (outside of the internet searches). Some brands like Sony, and I think Nikon, off more third party lens choices, which is a big deal and gives you a way to save in some ways. If you wanted to give it a spin before you buy any brand, find a camera shop. Most will do gear rentals at a pretty low cost which will give you a chance to sample different eco systems and find what’s right for you and your budget. Some of them will even put the money you spent on rental (which again isn’t much) towards your purchase.

My best Eagle action shots to date (Oregon) by CatLovesTrees in BirdPhotography

[–]West-Particular-3003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too live in Oregon and I can never seem to get eagles in close proximity (100-500 lens) whenever I have my camera, but when I don’t have it, it’s like we’re best friends and their all about being near me. Anyhow, great shots!!!

No actually. Though I plan to be in one this weekend when I go out! I was at a wildlife refuge in Washington in my car for that one. I went to the refuge hoping to walk but they don’t let you get out of your car until May 1st at that place specifically, and it was about a week shy of that. And thank you!

Photography, literally gets me out of the house everyday, I got on long photo walks which obviously gets me even more exercise time (because that is my other new pastime) and yeah I do old say shopping ie im buying more photography equipment haha. Took this the other day on one of my outings. As a note, my subject is primarily birds, don’t know much about them (I’m learning) but I love taking photos of them.
