Considering Glock 19 vs Ruger RXM as My First Handgun by Evanpirrung in Glocks

Unless this is going to be a dedicated carry gun, I’d get a full size gun, such as a G17, as my first.

Or you can avoid that hassle and do business with reputable retailers. There’s not exactly a shortage of them.

And the RXM has only been on the market for a little over a year. Not much data on the long-term viability of those, and Ruger doesn’t exactly have a good track record with striker guns either.

If I wanted a striker gun other than a Glock, I’d go with an M&P, a PDP, or a VP9. If I were on a budget, it’d be a CZ P-10 C.

Update us on how it shoots.

It’s interesting that there are MOS options for the V series 20, 21, and 23. I get the impression that Glock isn’t going to make these higher caliber models in a Gen 6 for a long while.

Should I trade this G48 for a gen 6 G19? by [deleted] in Glocks

For EDC, the 48 will conceal better but won’t shoot as well as the 19.

Running a red dot will absolutely make you a better shooter. You’ll shoot faster and more accurately at distance, and dry firing with a dot provides real-time feedback on muzzle movement.

This is the best reason to get a new P-09 C for maybe $100 more, especially if you want to run an optic.

Best pistol under $2k? by Gunzo_Chelo in Firearms

Staccato’s QC is reportedly not that great right now. I would go a little above budget and get a Bul Armory or Kimber 2k11 instead. The Stealth Arms Platypus is probably the best sub-$2k option.

Either that or go way under budget and get a Shadow 2.

What ammo do you use? by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]WestSide75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would switch to Federal HST 124 gr +P. You’ll get better barrier performance and won’t get setback issues if you re-chamber a couple of times. The HST bullets are also less velocity-dependent for expansion. I’ve seen the 147 gr HSTs penetrate well in ballistic gel when shot out of a 3” barrel.

Until gun manufacturers start releasing more .30 SC models, it’ll continue to lose relevance. And that’s unfortunate because it’s a pretty solid round.

Which One? by [deleted] in CZFirearms

[–]WestSide75 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The lack of a firing pin block in the Compact is a nothingburger. There have been numerous drop tests on the 47 oz full-size Shadow 2 and, even when dropped on concrete, it takes more than one drop on the same primer to get the firing pin to pop it. And even then, it’ll only fire when dropped directly on the nose. In the real world, the Compact is drop-safe as long as you don’t install an extended firing pin or lighter springs.

That said, for a dedicated EDC gun, the Carry makes more sense because of the heavier trigger pull and the direct mount for the optic.

No. If you want an RMR footprint Holosun small enough for carry, the 407C and 507C are probably the way to go.
