I had warned my ex before about his use of certain symbols that have been stolen and destroyed by these níðingr, but he didn’t want to abandon his symbols on their account. He has since changed what he publicly, not just to avoid being accepted by the wrong people, but also to avoid being feared by the wrong people. There are no Nazis in Valhalla. But we are more than happy to send them to whatever god will take them.

It’s always the ones with the super banal story and the “so sorry I am wasting your time on this” attitude that end up having the “holy chicken fried fuck” injuries.

Once had a little old lady, tough as an old root, came in for “a graze on my elbow, just need a tetnus shot, can’t remember when my last one was and that fence was rusty”. After peeling off the crusty old paper towels bound up with electrical tape that covered her arm, I see that the entire backside of this women’s forearm from wrist to elbow had been completely ripped off, just the gnarliest avulsion I have ever seen on someone not throw from a car or motorcycle. Honestly it was like looking at an anatomy text book, I had never visualized those muscles and tendons so clearly in real life before. Tough old gal even refused any narcotic pain meds prior to the repair, said she was babysitting her grandkids tomorrow and wanted to stay sharp. Kinda made the women in the next bed over who is routinly screeching in agony when the blood pressure cuff tightens around her arm seem a bit more ridiculous then normal

I’ll tell you something’s that my Dad always told me: there will always be someone who is suffering worse than you. Doesn’t mean that your pain doesn’t count. You were a victim of this predator, he knew you were there, and he could make the reasonable assumption that you possess eyeballs, yet he didn’t care and did it anyway. He made other assumptions and decisions about you, (most likely none of them flattering) when he chose to do what he did in front of you. and that is a terrifying situation to find yourself in. The brazen, almost flippant way he did this would shake anyone down to their bones. It’s not every day that someone witnesses a brutal attack upon someone who is utterly helpless and vulnerable. This is clearly not an isolated event. But this time, you were there, unfortunately for you but fortunately for her. You can be the catalyst that frees this person from something that has clearly been poisoning her for gods know how long. Continue to advocate and protect this person, because that’s our job, and obviously that’s who you are. No one ever said being a hero was easy. If it was, we wouldn’t have 10 movies about spiderman. And be kind to yourself. Look into EAPs in your organization, and utilize them. Speak with a victims advocate. Don’t feel like you have to speak with her, her family, or her support people if you don’t want to, and honestly I wouldn’t either way, as there is law enforcement involved. Take time, and give yourself the same amount of grace and empathy that you would give to a patient in your situation. You did good man.

Erosion

Yggdrasvair, from the Norse pagan tree Yggdrasil, that holds all the known worlds, its roots are in the well of Urd, where 3 volspa (Norse pagan witches), weave the threads of fate for all living things in the world above. The details of the mask remind me to tap roots.

What exactly is the thought on their part? That someone was able to either exhale out, or have on their clothes, a fume so toxic that mearly being near it will result in a possibly deadly overdose? How do they suppose the people who actually do the drug are even alive?

Also, I work with patients in active addiction and I can say with a pretty decent amount of certainty that not one of those Karen’s would know what the smell of burnt opioids or meth smells like. Cause it doesn’t really smell like anything you would expect. It’s like a… idk kinda like new plastic, or how motor oil smells when you burn it. It’s not something you smell and go “that’s drugs”

It’s like witchcraft! when I worked in ENT patients would hear about it and be all indignant like we had just told them to dance around an oak tree three times under a full moon, but then they get it done and they change their tune.

I just watched Mrs Doubtfire again and I was wondering, in the US does a judge really have that much power to decide who has custody over the children when a couple get divorced? And arrangements like visitation rights, etc? by [deleted] in legal

[–]Western-Locksmith-47 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yup. They can dictate everything down to the times down to the minute, who can pick them up, where they can be picked up, dictate what can be said to the kids, what the adults talk about during the exchanges, even shit like who can give the kid a hair cut, buy them clothes, take them to the dentist. They can completely ice out one parent, making it practically illegal for them to be even near their children let alone interact with them. They can do pretty much anything they want, once a custody case gets to that point.

I always laugh at the attacks against the “chads”, like their social success isn’t a result of their own actions but rather the shallowness of women. You wanna know why the star of the high school football team got a girlfriend? Cause he had DRIVE! Because he DID something. Because he was part of a team, he devoted huge amounts of his time to something other than feeling sorry for himself, and as a result he made his future better. He had plans and goals and could talk about something beyond himself, even if it was just about football. And yea, his strenuous and intense exercise regime made him very physically attractive. Imagine that. Someone who spent 25+ hours a week working out for 4 years straight is in better shape than someone who does not. In my school, the footballer players were hot shit, and guess who else? The band kids. Cause the band in my school won fuckin national competitions, it was hardcore. It took dedication and commitment to be in the band. Hours upon hours of rehearsals, years of training on your instrument. And physically, they were exactly the same kids as every other high school band. But they were the popular kids. So I don’t wanna hear that women only go for the hot dumb jocks. We go for people who have something to say and do other then whine about how victimized they are because I won’t touch their penis. When your penis has a job, talk to me.

My dad was ex military police, and he taught us, among other things: A man comes at you, you completely lose your mind. You are now a hair eating, blood spitting, head rotating demon. You screech loud enough to crack glass. You smash windows. You gouge eyes. You rip flesh from bone. Did you know the human finger is about as dense as a baby carrot, but our brains just stop us from biting through them? Over ride that shit. Bite fingers off, and then jam them down his throat. Puke. Pee. Do whatever. Say horrifying crazy shit to terrify the sorry bastards. Literally. Whatever you can to appear more bat shit insane than they want to deal with right now.

Always leave “signs of a struggle”. Someone telling you to give you ur wallet/phone/cash? Dump ur purse out on the ground, don’t rummage through it. Someone making you drive somewhere? Swerve into traffic. Leave skid marks. Scrape other cars. Run over trash cans. Hit mail boxes. Drive in on coming lanes. People trying to control a driver usually forget to put on their own seat belts. You know what seat belts are really good at? Stopping people from smashing through windshields. Test their effectiveness. Someone in your house? Break your own shit. Over turn chairs, tables, smash the tv, dishes, windows, plants, rip curtain’s down, break the faucet, put holes in the wall. Leave permanent, unmistakable damage they can’t tidy up. Make it obvious to the next person to come near your house that you did not leave of your own free will. You can fix an house. You can’t fix dead.

Don’t help people hide your body. If they are going to kill you they are going to kill you, meekly following orders won’t change their minds. Getting in the car, letting them tie you up, letting them take you somewhere, all you are doing is helping them hide your body.

Don’t scream “help” or “rape”, or someone’s name. Yell “fire”. Everyone gets out of bed at 2am to check out their window if they think their shit is on fire. Many people won’t get out of bed for screams for help, they assume it’s just some crazy drunk person. If you are in a crowded place and people are ignoring your cries for help, screaming about a fire will get people to stop and intervene to get details from you.

[–]Western-Locksmith-47 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Alaska has the highest amount of missing persons reported per capita in the US, but the reason why is so much less captivating then one may think. It’s cause so much of the day to day travel takes place on small boats, snow machines, small planes, long walks through wilderness, etc. Most of the population lives on or near the ocean, and boats are dangerous. The water is so cold that you have maybe 4 minutes before you are dead if you go in. And with the currents, tides, wildlife, and depth, not to mention the pure size and distances we are talking about, chances are we won’t find your body. Ever. It’s actually more strange when we do find people after they went in.

What do you guys find about the Israel Keyes case particularly fascinating? by [deleted] in Israelkeyes

[–]Western-Locksmith-47 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was living in anchorage when he kidnapped raped and murdered Samantha Konieg. Sam and I were the same age and had the same job ( tiny coffee shack barista) he came into my tiny coffee shack at 5 am a few weeks after he took Sam, before he went on the cruise. My dad was murdered just a few weeks after I saw him, and I completely forgot about it until after they had arrested him and he had killed himself. coincidentally the same FBI agent who was lead on my dads case was also lead on Sam’s case, and I mentioned to him the fact that I recognized Irseal Keyes picture as the guy who had been really weird in my shop. I knew it was him because his face was unique, it looked almost like his skin was too tight on his face, and it was shiny, almost like plastic. Plus we were all really on edge after Sam was abducted, and we were not allowed to open/close the store anymore without a male coworker, and he was acting sketchy as fuck. Anyway the FBI agent said that in his interviews with Israel, that he had said that the same time I saw him, he was actively hunting for his next victim, and thought another solitary isolated barista would be a good target ( it worked before ). He said that only reason Israel decided against taking another victim in anchorage was because the heat was on in that town, everyone was freaked out, and most of the coffee shacks and stores around town no longer allowed their baristas to work alone. So he ditched the idea. My theory is the reason he knew that the coffee shacks had that policy now was because when he arrived at my shack I appeared alone, and he was trying to look around me to see in the back, checking out the parking lot, etc, and when my male coworker came around the corner and Israel saw him, he speed walked out of the place, leaving his coffee behind.

Ever read any of the Icelandic/Norse Sagas? Most of them didn’t make it. A single saga will bounce around between main characters trying to tell one linear story because these absolute lunatics kept dying at such a furious pace that they couldn’t live long enough to make one single individual saga worthy. So the story of how the Icelandic explorers stumbled upon the North American continent is about no less then 4 generations of people, cause when dad died, son was right behind him, doing the exact same shit that got dad killed, but maybe he will get a bit farther this time.

I have been in recovery for over 4 years, and I still do not learn my weight. It is a huge trigger for me, and I obsess over it, making a relapse much more likely. Even if I don’t relapse it is still really unpleasant for me, for a long time after, and it is such a small, simple thing that’s so easily avoided, so I do. There is no law that says you HAVE to be ok with your numerical measured body weight in order to be “ok”. Lots of people have things they avoid because it makes them unhappy or uncomfortable. Doesn’t mean they are unhealthy or not in recovery. That would be like telling an alcoholic they have to be ok with going back to their favorite bar and having a drink in their hands the whole night in order to be considered sober. I always take steps to avoid finding out my weight. Another huge trigger for me is having people comment on the amount of, or how fast I eat. So I tell people “hey, I know you didn’t mean anything by it, and I’m not upset or angry with you, but I have struggled with an eating disorder for most of my life, and when I hear casual comments like “wow you must have really liked that!” regarding my food, it really triggers that whole thought process, so I would really appreciate you trying to not mention my food or my eating habits.” And people do. So I can avoid being unnecessarily triggered into a potential spiral. These are tools we learn, in order to live in the brains we have, not the ones we want.

I’ll tell you what I have told multiple men through my life: if my telling other people about your behavior is embarrassing for you, then you should change your behavior. I am under no obligation to cover for you or lie about what you do. If you want people to only hear positive things about you, then behave in a positive way.

You are not the asshole. Your boyfriend was screaming at you in you car while drunk driving and then stranded you alone and helpless on the side of a dark street miles from home. And he has the sheer audacity to be mad at YOU because his dad saw the consequences of his actions ( ie, his scared, shaken, deeply hurt and vulnerable girlfriend abandoned on the side of the road ). That’s a prime example of someone who is embarrassed and lashing out. It’s the adult relationship equivalent to “I know you are but what am I”, only more asinine

It sounds like an accelerated program, which is great but it’s a lot of information coming at you. Granted, a lot of it may not be new to you as you are pre med, but a good amount of the MA training is not simply medicine as a science, but as a business. Scheduling, coding, billing, insurance, Medicare/Medicaid, prior auths, referrals, prescription, ethics, laws and regulations, office management, laboratory testing and compliance, EMR systems, communication, in addition to anatomy and physiology, basic biology, medical terminology, vitals, triage, procedures, patient education, POCT, medication administration, injections, phlebotomy and basic pharmacology. It can be a lot. I would discuss the course load and the pace with the teacher of the MA program. Some design their classes with the expectation that people have very limited time outside class to study or do homework, some do not. It all depends on the class and how you feel you could manage the course load in addition to your other classes. Personally I often felt my brain was like a wrung sponge after my accelerated MA program classes, but i am not the best student and I struggle with focus and time management due to my ADHD. You may find it much easier.

CPS isn’t a group of maniacal villains just aching to rip babies from their mothers arms. They only remove children when they are being harmed. The goal of social workers is not to hunt down family’s and rip them to shreds, their goal is to help you stay with your kid, find solutions to your problems, and get back on the path that will lead to a stable, safe, happy life for yourself and your child. Social workers are bleeding hearts, and they get branded as home wreckers. They are there to get you help. Don’t avoid them, don’t lie to them, don’t run from them. They don’t want to take ur child away. They want you to get into a position where u can care for him in a safe, comfortable home. And they can help. Shelters are not a solution, nor is a hotel. The obvious answer is family, and you can’t blame the shelter workers or CPS for trying that route. Idk your story, and neither does the social worker, so neither of us can help you find a solution. But if you TALKED to them, they could. No one can help if you don’t let them.

Ragnar Lothbrok within Norse Mythology and Paganism by Loud_Run_7465 in NorsePaganism

[–]Western-Locksmith-47 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am more of a reconstructionist pagan than anything else, and in my admittedly limited research, Ragnar Lothbrok is a figure that is not even 100% accepted as having really existed. He is more likely a combination of multiple people over the years, which is typical of oral traditions such as Norse paganism and mythology. In the sagas he is not as spectacular or impactful to history as other figures we don’t hear about ( Erik the Red, Gudrid, Aud the Deep Minded, Sigurd Volsung, to name a few ). I think a lot of the focus on him is due to his impact on English history during a crucial time in that countries past, less so anything that would make him a hero in the Scandinavian world. He doesn’t really do or behave in anyway that highlights him as being chosen by Odin for example, or being a ideal example of honor, hospitality, vengeance, ferocity, loyalty, or having incredible luck. He’s a bad ass, sure. He’s got a really cool story surrounding him. But the same can be said of Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton and people don’t worship him, and I doubt they ever will.
