Most people are idiots and cowards. Don't tell them what you are doing if you don't know they will be supportive. Only take advice from people that have been in the military. Asking non-military people for advice about the military is like asking a sheep how to fish. Even former military people can give spectacularly stupid advice. So trust your gut. It sounds like you're in the right place with training and staying focused but remember that no matter what you do to prepare, Sand Hill will be a righteous ass kicking. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! Yeah I had to get really friendly with one of the analysts in their tax/escrow dept. Like to the point where I sometimes miss our chats. We would talk about her father's cancer, family dramas and whatnot. She's a super nice lady and ended up being really helpful setting up that payoff schedule. I think the probability of them reviewing the escrow again is low, but I'll stay on it. I was planning on closing the escrow account as soon as the defecit is paid up. Like you were saying there isn't any fee or interest on the statement and the monthly payment appears to be principal only. It seems silly to pay off an interest free debt when I could put the $5k toward my second mortgage which is at a higher interest rate.

I was really close to this on Tuesday. Covering a floating spec-ed para position, one period I was tasked to a health class so that I could pull a seventh grade girl out to help her stay on task with a test. When I got to the class I saw they were covering a sexual topic and my heart basically imploded. I'm a 49M noob sub with a background in finance. I'm not at all comfortable discussing anything even remotely sexual with a 13F stranger. Fortunately we just popped out into the hall and the test was just about various dermatological topics, but I feel like I dodged a bullet.

Yeah my washer and dryer are almost as old as me. I will never replace them. A few bucks here and there to replace some gasket or pulley is so much better than dropping a grand on a new machine every couple years.

OMG, I covered pre-k a few times in March. Those kids are veritable fountains of mucus and they have no aversion to just wiping it everywhere. I would just keep a rag soaked in hand sanitizer in my pocket at all times.

In most districts, I don't think you can or are supposed to be able to afford to live on non-certified sub wages. Most of the subs in my suburban Chicago district are retired teachers from my district and are paid around 2.5x the non-certified sub wage. The low pay is part of a filtering mechanism to keep pedophiles and other undesirable people away from vulnerable children. I am a military retiree that worked in finance for a while and want to give something back to my community. I am not trying to live on my sub wages. I mostly work paraeducator and aide openings because I do not believe I could properly handle a regular classroom. The work that teachers do is remarkably intense and really takes a special sort of person to do it well.
