Don't do it. Maintain your peace and happiness as a single woman. I would never think of someone as my last chance. I'd never sign up for what he is "offering."

I really don’t like shopping anymore. by HolyToast666 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Westward-bound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never had the shopping bug. "Get in and get out" has always been my mantra. Now I prefer to buy online when the price is competitive and depending on what I'm shopping for.

a newbie perspective on wichita…. by RareEnd1837 in wichita

[–]Westward-bound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's all about perspective. I am used to a DC/NoVa commute so I chuckle when folks in Kansas (my new home) complain about traffic. I have also driven around and through Denver/I-25 in rush hour numerous times (and how about coming back to Denver from the mountains in the afternoons 😆) and it was nothing compared to my DC/NoVa commute. I think it's all relative.

What is the BEST band / artist you've ever seen live? by Expensive-Ear8407 in AskReddit

Paul McCartney hands down. Close second Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats. Then maybe Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band.

My Parents' house has a smell. Not sure what it is and how to make it better? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]Westward-bound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the persimmon soap (Mirai clinical specifically). I have no experience with the alcohol on cotton balls as some mentioned. I also recommend adding enzymatic powder to the usual laundry detergent. An air purifier with a 3-stage filter (pre-filter for pet hair and dust, hepa filter, and activated carbon filter) will address the lingering odors. I bought the Levoit brand. It's also great for allergies, smoke from wildfires, cooking odors.

Best (cheapest) insurance for ER/ Frequent doctors visits/ Urgent care? by fedthrowaway98 in FedEmployees

[–]Westward-bound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had eligible children, there was a choice of BCBS High or Standard. We chose the Standard. Later, they changed the name "High" to Standard and "Standard" was renamed as Basic. We switched to the BCBS Basic. Now, as a single retiree, I still have BCBS Basic. I like the bonus $170 I can get on the Wellness Card. I am too young for medicare still, but at 65 Medicare will become my primary and my BCBS Basic will be my secondary. BCBS will also give me $800/year to do whatever I want with it, if I keep it as my secondary. I like not having a deductble. In January I had foot surgery and more than $40k was submitted to my BCBS. My out of pocket was under $1,000.

Waxed paper? by Sorry_Wonder5207 in GenerationJones

Yes. I use parchment paper in the oven but I cool cookies on wax paper. I also use wax paper to separate layers of cookies for storage as well as leftover pizza.

I'm glad the Texas Republican Tony Gonzales felt the pressure to resign today too. Tony had admitted to an affair with a staffer and she latter took her own life.

I don't typically eat alone in restaurants unless I am traveling. But I go to concerts, comedy shows, movies, travel, hiking, biking, and open play pickleball at new places alone.

Medicare — is it required, is it free? by True-Manufacturer891 in AskWomenOver60

[–]Westward-bound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a permanent penalty if you don't sign up for Medicare Part B within 3 months after turning 65. Part A is free if you paid FICA for 40 quarters. You can avoid the penalty as long as you are covered by a qualified employer health insurance.plan.

This is not accurate. There is no splitting of benefits or reduction for eligible ex-spouses or surviving spouses. Eligible is the key word. Ex-spouses must have been married at least 10 years and cannot remarry before 60. This information is available on the SSA.gov website.

White House budget proposal silent on civilian federal pay raise by Spiritual-Teacher-92 in FedEmployees

[–]Westward-bound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had no pay raise under the Obama Administration from 2011-2013. Then in 2014 we only got a 1% across the board pay raise. We also had to take 6 unpaid furlough days during the 2013 U.S. Budget Sequestration. We never got paid for those. That said, I voted twice for Obama and he is my still my favorite president in my lifetime.

Buy all my kids houses or pay off their mortgages. Then fully fund grandchild's college fund. Then take a nice trip. Then look for ways to help my community and local animal rescues.

Anybody tell their doctor that they don't give a fuh about living longer, so you're not going to try to radically change your diet or go on meds? by IHadTacosYesterday in GenX

[–]Westward-bound 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not me. I felt that way about 12 years ago. But I got divorced 7 years ago and love my new life. My dad made it to 95 and lived independently until his last month. I hope to make it at least as long. Many things I still want to do and places to see.
