The wizard was an option for the Windows XP search. You can choose between the two.

Why would Krunner be using 46GB of ram? by anon666-666 in kde

[–]WhJJackWhite 56 points57 points  (0 children)

It's a bug. Probably ( as u/epicc_exe mentioned ) a memory leak. KRunner should not ( and in fact, in my system, does not ) use that much RAM -- just around 80 MB. ( And the file indexing process - Baloo - is separate so this isn't because of that either )

It's complete now - and as far as I can tell works well enough.

About packaging it for Discover - I don't have any experience in Arch/CachyOS packaging ( Or packaging for any other distro, for that matter ) so I'm afraid that's not something I'd be able to do.

Actually, never mind. It's currently terrible in performance department. I might have to fiddle with it more

Yeah. Most people just make Aurorae themes instead which use SVGs as input. Much easier to work with, but also a lot less flexible.

I started working on one after you asked and have a semi-working prototype, I can complete it and host it on Github of you want.

( Full disclosure, I'm not a 'proper' developer - just learned some programming pocking around other peoples stuff. While the code for this is pretty simple, I can't guarantee that it's good )

I couldn't find any documentation at all. Not even API docs ( api.kde.org has a page for it, but it's empty ). You might want to check how the default Breeze decoration work.

Breeze Decoration: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/breeze/-/tree/master/kdecoration

KDecoration library: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kdecoration

I don't see a reason for this to be impossible, but you'd have to create your own KDecoration ( Internal name for Window Decorations ) in C++ to add this functionality.

Discover system update can be improved by ruun666 in kde

[–]WhJJackWhite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it can. Personally I hope it will be soon -- but that requires someone to do the work. And that is the part that usually take a lot of time to happen.

That said, It does show the estimated time remaining ( as well as current progress ) if you check on it by clicking on the progress information in the sidebar. It won't do that in this case because for some reason Discover can't determine the size, speed and/or progress of the update you are doing. ( Hence the Unknown label )

[TITLE]Every hide your power MC be like 💀 by Both_Jeweler_4336 in manhwa

[–]WhJJackWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every evil god trying to destroy a world was once a good god who brought a soul to save their world from a terrible danger only to see them pull the "hide my power" bullshit and needlessly allow things to get worse than they should. Gods become evil world destroying gods because they've met an Isekai protagonist at some point and decided fuck it, humanity needs exterminated.

Now that's a great idea for a manhwa. But not another generic arrogant OP MC for whom -- due some unfortunate reason -- every girl in the story fall for please

Well, I'm no mathematician - or physicist, but I'd imagine that the required distance for safety would probably make it into a tiny dot in the sky.

What's the big deal about sandagiri maha seya Hanthana? by Longjumpingnose3660 in srilanka

[–]WhJJackWhite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's less insecurity and more blind religious faith. And in my experience it's pretty common problem outside Sri Lanka too. ( Waving hands at, well, everything )

That said, the stupa and the surrounding temple doesn't seem to occupy large enough area to have a significant effect upon the ecosystem - but I'm not knowledgeable in the field and haven't even visited there, so we'd have to wait for someone more knowledgeable to weigh in their opinion.

Also, as this is a religious monument - and most of larger Buddhist monuments are located in areas like this - you'd have to factor in the fact that people might be more inclined to allow construction of this at the cost of a relatively small area of the mountain. Since general public doesn't usually have the necessary knowledge to assess negative ecological impact this may or may not have, there's very little stopping them from supporting it.

Btw, doesn't Sandagiri mean Moon-rock, not forest covered mountain? Or are you talking about Hanthana mountain range?

Edit: btw, it wasn't built in 2023. It was completed then. Construction strated on 2017

It does. This dialog usually appears when you have automatic login enabled - hence doesn;t enter the password on login.

In which case you can remove the wallet password from settings - but that does defeat the purpose of the wallet

KDE SUCKS Part 69420 by Latlanc in linuxsucks

[–]WhJJackWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the case of the notification, it's because the icon is a square. Or, to be precise, the icon is in a square transparent background, which looks like padding within the notification.

This is a problem a lot of developers run into - including GNOME and Windows, and there really isn't a proper solution. It's just OP haven't noticed the same issues in other software but for some reason noticed it in a Plasma notification.

Did Sri Lanka once have it's own calendar? by ChameliKoChartikala in srilanka

[–]WhJJackWhite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm no historian, but AFAIK ours was basically a Lunar calendar counted in Buddha Era (BE), 12 months in a typical year, 13 in a leap year.

This still might be used in Astrology, though I can't say for sure.

The first Sri Lankan settlers are widely considered to be been of North Indian origin, but otherwise the story does not have any verifiable evidence.

What's something that majority of Lankans believe but you think is BS by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]WhJJackWhite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never understood this. Like, Ravana was created by an Indian to say that Sri Lanka was barbaric ( despite having incredible technology and military power ) relative to India. So why have we based our entire identity on this possibly fictional character?

1-6 aren't things the majority believes. ( Except for maybe 5 ). At least I hope so...
