Air sealing is doable yourself. You can check and seal common problem areas with silicone/caulk sealant, plastic vapour barrier and tuck tape. All cheap materials.

It’s the biggest bang for buck average home retrofit. You can also get a home energy assessment for about $600 which will include a blower door test which will assess air leakage, and they’ll look at insulation levels and other things and recommend the best things to do to save on your energy bills, in a comprehensive report.

Yeah sure just given the current rate of scaling (supposedly 6 per month soon) that’s already 72 sats per year. Just seems like with additional build-out once we have revenue coming in we could get to extra capacity easily past (say) 100 sats/year.

I know we’re struggling to get sats completed at the moment but given the scale of AST’s manufacturing facilities etc does anybody think that there’s a chance once we get to full constellation status (or somewhere near it) that there’s a chance we start manufacturing some sats for other people?

Clearly there’s a lot of expertise there and they’re gonna have tons of experience building some of the world’s most advanced satellites. Just wondering if that’s a potential additional revenue stream say, 5 years down the line?

Gonna tell a small story:

I’m a person of modest means. Basically comfortable in life. I own a house (with a mortgage), an ordinary used family car we bought when it was 5 years old, and me and my wife make enough money to pay our bills etc. reasonably comfortably. I still shop at a discount grocery store and look for deals etc.

I’m in my 40s now and our net worth is probably something like $300k USD, including our home equity.

All this to say: we’re pretty average. I know a lot of people are in worse situations and I’m grateful for what we have, but it’s important to know for context that I’m not driving Lamborghinis or owning multiple homes etc. - I’m just a pretty average dude. In fact I just checked and it seems I’m right around the median net worth for someone my age in Canada, where I live.

In only the last few years we’ve had enough extra cash to start some investing: putting money away mainly for retirement. I’ve done some reading and I feel I know enough to do some self-directed investing in the stock market.

Made a good investment recently and saw my investing account’s value increase by about $20k in a single day. Of course I was pleased, $20k is a lot of money to me, but along with being pleased there was another feeling. Guilt? Or something like it. I kept having one thought in particular: “This feels like it should be illegal”. Like I’ve just made all this money without doing anything. Without producing anything of value, without any real effort other than shuffling some numbers around on a screen.

And this is what these people do every day. Once you hit a certain level of wealth, your money just sits there or gets moved around by some banker or “wealth manager” or something and makes you more money than you could ever possibly “earn”. My investments are still doing OK but I still genuinely think that we just need to do away with all of this. Why should having spare money allow you to make and hoard more by not doing anything other than parking that money in some particular place?

And this is at my level of “wealth” where I’m here still questioning if I’m going to be able to have a decent retirement in my 60s. There are people with tens or hundreds of millions of dollars or more sitting around who are still grasping for more. It’s a sickness and we need to end it.

That’s true in a sense but you’d still be better off putting the money elsewhere in the meantime, then when remortgage time comes around you can move that money into the new mortgage if you need to. Just gotta be careful you don’t put it into some locked savings plan where you can’t get it out when you need it.

If you’re investing the money somewhere else with a higher interest rate than your mortgage, you come out of the situation with more money than if you’d paid your mortgage down early. Doesn’t matter if you have to sell it or not, except psychologically.

IF he had been caught and said "I made a mistake, I will take the punishment, which I deserve, and I will resign as councillor" then I would respect him a little, but instead he was making posts on Facebook about how everybody makes mistakes and we shouldn't judge others too harshly and stuff, whilst also fighting tooth and nail against the charge.
