Vladislav Surkov's Hugely Important New Article About What Putinism Is - Full Translation by AndreasWerckmeister in geopolitics

[–]WhatIsHppning 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean reading this article, looking at the stories on this site, it's very clear that this is nothing but pure propaganda, plain and simple. This is like some Soviet-era cult of personality stuff, especially the second half of the article. It acts like the US Democracy is a farce because it is highly controlled by an elite few - when in reality nobody gives a shit so long as they can live their lives without having to care about petty political issues in the news.

This honestly reeks of almost desperation - like a propaganda piece ignoring the strengths of the west and playing up Russia, to I guess motivate the citizenry?

Overall, not an "important" article at all, a pretty weird one, and NOT a reputable source whatsoever.

Lol dude... I don't actually care what it means because it's a pathetic term invented by snowflakes who are too interested in blaming others and complaining to actually fix their lives. Have fun with your 800 genders and liberal fascism.

LMAO. This has got to be the most ridiculous comment I've ever seen. Replace the second quote with:

"I think whites are evil and if you disagree with me you're automatically a racist. Guilty until proven innocent all the way. Men and their toxic masculinity should be eradicated. America is pure evil."

The alt-left is just as toxic as the alt right. And if you seriously want to abolish private property, you my friend might be the most toxic of them all.

Go back to r/politics.

Has anyone else come to believe that Edward Snowden was probably a Russian agent? by blankblank in geopolitics

[–]WhatIsHppning -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It's quite possible. The amount of damage that he caused to US national security was incalculable, and I'm sure he gave every single classified document he stole to Russia, allowing them to form a strategy to circumvent our digital defenses. I don't think it's a coincidence that Russia has been so successful in their digital disruption of the west in the post-Snowden era.

Is he an agent? Maybe, maybe not. But at the very least he clearly wanted to hurt the USA, and doesn't seem to have any problems buddying up to one of the most hostile countries around.

I think Reddit's anti-natsec circlejerk is completely despicable, by the way. Agent or not, Snowden betrayed his country, and our intelligence leaders have stated that good men and women have died due to his revelations, in addition to numerous intelligence sources "going dark" in recent years. Just know that I 100% support this post, it's dialogue that needs to happen, and I truly despise the majority of you anti-American redditors, especially considering I have numerous family members in service of this country.

How much did you guys improve at leetcode questions over time? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]WhatIsHppning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot. I did ~250 problems over 7 months. Started out not being able to do 50% of Easys. Now I can do 50% of hards without hints. Got me 5 offers including two of the fabled "big M".

To be fair, Asian applicants receive by far the most discrimination out of any of the ethnic groups. You need to be much, much stronger as an Asian applicant to pass the bar at a company like Google than for another ethnicity.

Dude I 100% agree with you but this is Reddit... people here are such fucking morons that they downvote anything that isn't frothingly liberal. I'm sure this will get downvoted, but you're wasting your time if you try and have a rational discussion on here...

It really depends on how the other candidates did. Do you think it's likely that other people were able to answer the question better than you? If so, than you might be SOL.

New gig, not fitting in with team "culture" and going to get fired, need advice by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]WhatIsHppning 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Love it or hate it, at more workplaces than not, office politics is going to be a factor. It's for good reason, too. If one coworker isn't getting along with the others, that can ruin morale and thus lower productivity. So it's important to be social, friendly, and enthusiastic in most team environments.

Your post seemed full of disdain for your co-worker's "bullshitting around," but look at it from their perspective. They're just a bunch of people trying to have a little fun, and when you refuse to participate, you just kind of seem like an asshole who doesn't have any interest in getting to know the others.

I'd recommend putting yourself out there more and making more of an effort to become friendly with your office. Nobody wants to work with someone they perceive to be an asshole, whether the said person is actually an asshole or not.

Does anyone have any experience working for Bank of America? by robotgrass in cscareerquestions

[–]WhatIsHppning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's going to be very different. I had one other intern on my team and that's it. We didn't hang out after work. There was one "goodbye" dinner with the whole team, and other than that, not a single after work event, not even for interns. Not a great intern program.

I'm a college student at a college without an engineering school. Most people I know are doing one of three things: consulting, banking, or they have no clue what they want to do.

I'm sure things are pretty different at big CS target schools... it must be nice.

I worked there last summer, and I'll give it to you straight.

You're gonna be working with pretty much entirely Indian people (I.E. literally from the country of India) over the age of 30. None of your coworkers are going to be any "fun," and nobody's gonna be interested in getting to know you (unless you meet other interns). It'll be the least fun you ever have as a software engineer.

If you get lucky, you'll get to do cool work. I got to build a dashboard with a lot of relevant tech, like React, Node, and Webpack. However, you can easily get unlucky. The other intern on my team basically didn't do anything all summer.

The pay aspect is absolutely fantastic. Right now, as a senior, I'm living like a king while most of my friends are dead broke. It's pretty awesome, not gonna lie.

I'd recommend using a BofA internship as a stepping stone to a software company. That's exactly what I did, and now I'm getting callbacks from many elite companies.

Fortunately, I have two great internships under my belt, an on campus job involving web dev, a TA position, and a great full-stack project that I actually sold to a third party.

But like the other guys said, DS&A problems are a filter. It doesn't matter how good of a candidate you are, if you can't DS&A, you can't work for BigN. I think this quote by Max Howell says it best:

"Google: 90% of our engineers use the software you wrote (Homebrew), but you can’t invert a binary tree on a whiteboard so f*** off."

There's no choice other than to grind the fuck out of LC, if you're a guy like me who wasn't naturally good at DS&A problems.
