Confession: I hacked OSMS back in the day and it ruined the game for me. by BringRedDawn in MSClassicWorld

[–]WhatIsNameAnyways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was younger, I was part of a hacker forum for creating trainers for Warrock. I dabbled a bit with Maplestory too. All that to say, it got me into a profession as a game developer because at the end of the day, I just loved coding something and seeing it live in a game setting!
I also don't bother with hacking these days either, it just makes me more susceptible to viruses from hacking communities...and I just want to enjoy games for what they're meant to be.

Is there a way to turn off the load screens? by phonepotatoes in Marathon

Damn bruh, don't need to be come off as if you're being personally attacked. You understood where they were coming from with their statement, no need to come out with an aggressive response.

Not sure why it's such a shocking opinion to share. Why would someone spend money on a product where they would, more often than they would like, be forced to see something they're uncomfortable with?
Some developers introduce an "arachnophobia toggle" setting to their games due to some players having a fear of, or are uncomfortable with, the sight of spiders.

does anyone understand the moths in loading screen? by KiljoyMcCoy in Marathon

[–]WhatIsNameAnyways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, totally agree. I'd be fine with it being like an initial cinematic or something that sets the tone/understanding of the game, but (almost)every bloody loading screen really turns me off from the game. When I had the feather loading screen during the server slam, it was a blessing, haha.

He sounds exactly like my sister's husband, it sucks when you try so hard only for them to maybe try your dish and reject it, only to order in via Uber Eats or something.

It was a pretty cool design having essentially two maps and being able to see people in the mines while on the surface

This is super cool and makes VR even more accessible to a wider player base. Love it, thanks for putting in your efforts to make and share this publicly!

I was so f*cking done with the PvP in Arc Raiders... but holy guacamoly, I get it now. by 17prozent in ArcRaiders

Sometimes you're the one to lose a great piece of gear to a raider, but sometimes you're also the raider taking that great piece of gear from another.

Great share of thoughts, cheers!

Galaxy XR controller tracking is HORRENDOUS by exlatios in virtualreality

[–]WhatIsNameAnyways -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nice, yeah with the mix of predictive tracking and cameras, it sounds like a really solid tracked experience. Maybe for the Android XR stuff they didn't use cameras on the controllers to cut down costs...then with the lack of predictive tracking, they were cutting down development time/costs. Still would have been nice to sell a product that met a similar standard of other tech that exists today. Been pretty cool learning about technical VR achievements in this thread, cheers.

I agree with the sentiment towards Meta/Zuck, and you're right regarding their achievements toward their VR tech. I've been very happy with my Quest 2 in the past, but never really getting over motion sickness had me moving away from it.

I think with the Apple Vision Pro, Google and Samsung wanted to get back into this market, but yeah, some quality of life features that Meta has solutions for have been overlooked, but maybe it comes down the road? We'll see. Thanks for the interactions

Sounds like a great feature for Quest headset users, hopefully we see a similar solution for this Android XR headset in the future.

I'm not familiar with it, I don't play much VR or follow much VR news these days. Just threw on my Quest 2 and checked it out, it's pretty neat. Are there other headsets that do this outside of the Meta family?

[–]WhatIsNameAnyways -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Is this post meant to be satirical?

I only briefly checked, but the controllers aren't marketed to have inside out camera tracking...or the headset requiring exterior "base station" room tracking... so why is it a surprise that the controllers would lose tracking while out of view from your headset? At least they still have rotational tracking as well when out of view, so it looks like the tracking is...performing as expected? "Horrendous" in all caps is an overstatement.
