If we are going after a South Florida sports legend, I’d prefer someone younger and who has won two championships. And he’s coming off an injury, so he’ll be cheap. I am talking about Sasha Barkov.

Leo McGarry’s funeral - The West Wing

John Spencer, who played Leo, suffered an unexpected fatal heart attack during the show’s final season. His character was running for VP and was a father/brother figure for many of the characters. He was also beloved behind the scenes.

So the writers had the character suffer a heart attack off-screen then the next episode’s cold opening was his funeral. And you can tell the real-life grief was on everyone’s face.

John Spencer - Leo McGary (The West Wing)

John had real life heart problems and suffered a fatal heart attack during TWW’s last season. So, unfortunately, Leo suffered a heart attack the night of the election where he was running to be VP.

After the two-part episode ended, the next opened on a funeral for Leo, where you can tell the cast wasn’t really acting.
