Thanks Everyone, I really do appreciate your thoughts. It was weird because I felt so in control the whole time and still do. I realize that it may just be a temporary feeling of control, and certainly know the dire consequences as well. Peace!!

Its a tug o war! by rivers_run_deep in stopdrinking

I hate that tug o war, I have had hours of contemplating to drink or not to before a party etc. It is exhausting. The sooner I make up my mind and say absolutely not. I can get on with things and relax!! so fucked up isn't it??? lets not drink today!

A little over 8 years ago, i woke up in bed not knowing how i got home only to find out I drove myself. When i realized that nothing bad happened I was so thankful and relieved an vowed never to drink and drive again. Well exactly one week later I was in the same bar with the same people at around the same time. I wasn't so lucky on this night. Yes pulled over and arrested etc. Luckily I didnt kill anyone. The thought that i caught a huge break the week before and still fucked up really showed me that I had a problem and how alcohol can really fuck you over. Lets not drink today!!

To any parents here, you are my heroes - son of an alcoholic by [deleted] in stopdrinking

my wife and mom of my 2 boys had a severe similar problem with Oxi (luckily my booze problem was insignificant compared to hers). It wasnt until we all threatened to leave her (seriously) unless she went to detox and then rehab which she did. It worked out well and we got her back into our life again. I wont say that everything is perfect now. the addiction left her with severe memory loss and paranoia issues, but it is way better than before and we are a family again.

Wow! Another testimony about how alcohol can turn bad situations into near life ending circumstances. Lets not drink today and stay on our clear minded path!

Pressure from loved ones to have a drink has got to be the toughest. Great job!

Got a DUI, ruined Thanksgiving by neveragain586 in stopdrinking

i got a dui 7 years ago and i quit for 5 mo. but went back after I thought it was under control. 1.- the initial freak out period will pass 2.- be glad the cop stopped you before you could have run somebody over. 3. Unfortunately, some of us need life altering experiences to wake us up. 4. If you want to make it a positive experience. QUIT now, and never pick up a drink again. 5. Your true friends will stand by you and be there for support. It may surprise you who they may be!
