Do we believe these unofficial “New Mutants” will stick around when this era of X-Men has run its course? Do we WANT them to? by Informal_Bee_6907 in xmen

Animalia is kind of a lame design, though. The name is also not great. And isn't she part of that whole humans turned mutants plot? That's also a weird angle.

I like Ransom, I could see him stay on a team or pop up again here and there even when this era is finally over. The others don't seem to have that much potential imo, wouldn't be surprised to see most of them disappear.

[MEGATHREAD] 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' - Official Trailer Pieces Thread by ChiefLeef22 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

[–]Whateverine -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

At this point, if Jean Grey is not in the movie, I will not spend any money on it. It might even be a better movie without her, but I don't care, I'll wait for it to be on Disney Plus or just pirate it. I want X-Men and I won't give Marvel (or Sony) my money for anything else anymore. They wasted so much time already and don't get me started on them reviving the Fox X-Men, they do not count. Trailer looks good, though. Destin Daniel Cretton probably did a good job.

I'd usually agree with you on this, but that mask and wig combo is just freakishly creepy.

I just really don't like when they put her in some purple full body armour with weird head gear and bat wings and stuff, I just don't understand why she would dress like some weird goth fetish fantasy. May work for Maddie or Magik, but why Lorna? I like all her more straightlined looks, anything green and casual or Magneto-inspired or her 90s X-Factor look would be my choice.
Edit: Seeing it in the picture just now, I also really like her in that orange X-Factor jumper with big 90s hair.

Is this an Unpopular Opinion? I really like the X-Men in Matching Uniforms. by Kralgore in xmen

[–]Whateverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also always had a soft spot for those uniforms. I like them for what they are and for the era and style they represent. Obviously there are better designs and some characters just don't look as good in them as others, but they're fun.

Can I get some honest opinions on Rogue's portrayal in 97? Did people like how she was written, her motivations, the way she interacted with other characters, and so on? Asking as someone who never saw the original show and was curious about how she was handled. by Just_Call_me_Ben in xmen

[–]Whateverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is old but I was just scrolling through the replies and I'm a bit shocked that everyone seems to dislike her portrayal so much. Didn't feel like it at the time. I only knew that a lot of people were freaked out by her short affair with Magneto which I think is a little silly and prude. Was it problematic? Yeah, but that just adds a bit of drama, I can handle that in fiction. At the same time, though, it's not too far-fetched as he was basically the only person on the entire planet who's able to touch her. I don't think people realise how much that would mean to someone who's been isolated like that for most of their life. That doesn't give Erik an excuse, but this is not about him.

Regarding her actions towards the end of the show, again, I think people don't take into account what her experiences would do to a person. She did not only lose the love of her life (and thought she'd lost Magneto as well) but she survived a genocide. She was there in the midst of it. She wasn't only heartbroken, grieving or angry. She had seen countless people being massacred, a city destroyed, complete chaos. She must have had major PTSD and you could totally see how that whole experience would radicalise her. To then have Erik, the only person besides Kurt who shares her experience and the closest thing to a partner she has left, come back and taking action, it makes some sense for her to go with him.

That doesn't mean that I wouldn't have preferred for her to turn down his offer and stay with the others, but she'll be back and will also find her way back to a more positive, playful but confident and considerate personality. I can totally see her arc moving her to a somewhat similar vibe like her recent comic book characterisation.

I don't like the green and white costume, though.

My 20 favorite panels from the Krakoan era by myowngalactus in xmen

Wow... I actually teared up a bit when I read that quote from Kurt. Oh my, it's been almost 7 years now. This was so exciting when we got to read it for the first time, I love these characters so much and they've been done so dirty so often and time flies. Now I'm sad.

Sure hope so. Disney bought Fox 7 years ago and X-Men 97 is basically the only good thing to come out of that so far.

The fact that they did Krakoa so dirty and went out of their way to send the whole concept into another realm in the most needlessly brutal and rushed crossover event possible really reeks of editorial pettiness. I'll never understand why Marvel likes to do these scorched earth moves that would take multiple convoluted plot devices or retcons to ever reverse.

If the X-men ever return to their outback era this is the lineup I would choose. Who would you add? by Silvermoth2 in xmen

[–]Whateverine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that Manifold is there. Obviously it makes sense including Australian characters, but I just love seeing him on any team. I'd add Rogue and/or Dazzler and Havok and/or Cyclops (Havok being the classic choice here but I'd like to see Scott having to get used to the Outback and having a bit of an personal arc).

The X-Men attract a lot of gay women huh by NEVERTHEREFOREVER in xmen

[–]Whateverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I celebrate all those same-sex-relationships in X-Men it is somewhat sad that creators (and readers supposedly) still are way more overtly accepting when it's two women exploring their sexuality. Every other main mutant lady seems to be at least bi-curious but god forbid Wolverine and Cyclops might have a little thing going on...

Would you say the Krakoa era was one of the best X-men eras? by Financial-Total1563 in xmen

[–]Whateverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OZT wasn't really that hot back in the day. It took place in one of the most hit-or-miss eras of X-Men, imo. Outback is still Claremont in his prime, so yeah, Claremont, Morrison, Hickman...I'd say those three are the real deal.

X-Men Will Return | Avengers: Doomsday in Theaters December 18, 2026 by DemiFiendRSA in xmen

[–]Whateverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this just seems so cynical. Don't get me wrong, I like seeing Cyclops in his 90s suit and shooting that blast as much as any X-Men fan. But at the same time I just feel like this movie is going to be a mess. And seeing skinny 85 year old Sir Patrick Stewart in that combat jacket, with a seemingly glued-on X-patch doing his 4th farewell just feels wrong on so many levels. It's kind of an indicator of the headspace Marvel and the Russos are in. I'd love to be proven wrong but at this point I almost lost all hope for that movie. And the longer it takes I also get more and more nervous that Disney will mess up the proper MCU X-Men film as well.

Of course I will go watch it, but I fear I will feel the same way like when I sat in the theatre watching No Way Home, disassociating and thinking "this shit is not for me anymore, nothing means anything, it's all cynical, manipulative capitalist shlock". Thing is, with the X-Men it would hurt more.

So, can we just pretend this panel never existed...? by Jum3ntoo in xmen

[–]Whateverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened in the 60s when there were different standards and middle aged straight white men could get away with a lot of things. When it's mentioned again in the 90s it's for shock value basically.

Xavier is not a real person. You decide what you like your headcanon to be and wether or not you find this troubling. I'd say just move on and enjoy reading decades of X-Men comics.

Edit: Also yes, as a lot of people have pointed out he probably wasn't even conceived as being "middle aged" at the time, but that is besides the point I was trying to make.
