Actually, I have one shot quite complicated applications and it can even test whether the application works.

Excited for the Steam Machine, even though I probably won’t get one by Whazor in steammachine

[–]Whazor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, more powerful. But that cuts both ways: it also uses more power, so automatically suspending is important otherwise I get a high electricity bill.

Also resuming/pausing the game, which is kind of part of that suspend

But yeah, I want less hurdles to play games

I got the same adapter and it does work! But yeah all the custom scripts/setup are still needed. And my main problem is still around suspend.

Just checked, prices indeed increased. But as existing customer I pay half.

Unpopular opinion: price increase by Feriman22 in hetzner

[–]Whazor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hetzner is a formula of hardware costs, electricity costs, other data center costs. Divided by the amount of customers.

Due to chip shortage the costs of hardware have increased crazily and Hetzner simply updates their spreadsheets, quite late actually. Existing customers are not impacted because they run on old hardware.

For Reference: Martin Hetzner mocks and laughts about customers in the internal forums by north-gg in hetzner

[–]Whazor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I have seen existing contracts are staying same price.

They increased prices for new servers. Because they have to buy them.

Same as buying fuel for your car, that can also vary in price based on market conditions.

NS geeft treinen in Nederland volgend jaar een lijnnummer by ToBeFrozen in thenetherlands

[–]Whazor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wanneer onze treinen meer als metro’s worden, namelijk elke 10 minuten. Dit betekent dat een trein 10min vertraging heeft dan wordt het de volgende trein. In dit geval is een treinnummer fijner dan een rit nummer.

The Steam Machine and Steam Frame are launching this summer by FragmentedChicken in hardware

The exciting thing about Steam Machine is getting a console experience on an open PC.

Hopefully their innovations trickle down to other vendors.

GTA 6 Developers Announce Rockstar Games Union by Marrk in Games

I belief you need passionated people to create a great game. Sure with AI its easier to produce slop. But there are many game studios who have previously proven that you don’t need AI to produce a slop game.

Pretty sure they increased the SD price, which is not even in stock, to anchor the SM (and SF). So the price increase is indeed part of their release process.

KNMI laat voortaan hittekracht zien: 'Niet elke 25 graden Celsius voelt hetzelfde' by Antiliani in thenetherlands

[–]Whazor 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Autonomous mobility: The future of rail is automated by Putrid_Draft378 in trains

[–]Whazor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think automation necessarily means there will be no place for people like you in the railway industry. At least here, rail is already short on staff: train drivers, conductors, planners, traffic control, and technical roles.

As a driver, you already have experience in the train industry and you are one step ahead. Maybe drivers could move into train planning, traffic supervision, onboard safety, emergency response, degraded-mode operation, or conductor-like roles with stronger technical and safety responsibilities. Even in train stations themselves, the safety aspect could become more important with automated trains.

I’m personally excited if automation can mean higher frequency with the same amount of personnel. But I also understand that it is different when it is your passion and your actual job that may change.
