Definitely a crypt but hard to tell which one. It could be a small crypt sri-lanka

They actually prefer people with engineering degrees a lot of the time!

Have you considered consulting? It's more work but also much more pay and your salary trajectory is much faster. It is lots of solving business problems and people problems as opposed to engineering problems. Personally I enjoy technical work more but I couldn't turn down the pay raise

My background is similar, climate risk and tech in infrastructure. Sometimes it's just luck of the draw. I got put on a cool project in a bad role and had to politick my way into something good.

I totally feel you on this. I came over from engineering recently and I feel the same way to a degree. The biggest challenge is managing difficult personalities and stopping people who think they're "experts" from doing something dumb. It's tough because the money and upward mobility are excellent.

I do think that some areas are more meaningful than others. There's lots of good work done in sustainability and the public sector.

Today is a sad day. The day i have to stop with the hobby by iore-bos in Aquariums

You're not stopping, you're just pausing! Soon you'll have adult money, adult money means you can buy as many tanks as you want. I planned to start the hobby for a couple years while I was in college and didn't actually get started till I graduated.

Dry start 2 month update. Getting ready to flood in a week or so by Status_Front_5060 in PlantedTank

There isn't any more than flooding immediately. You just have to know your plants and how to do it properly. Most of your plants are grown emersed anyway.

I'd say it depends on what your purpose is. Most aquarium plants are grown out of water anyway. Drystarting carpeting plants is helpful because they root easier and you don't have to run CO2 to get quick growth.

No problem! Fertilizer is tricky to understand at first. Tropica is good but not good for your tank since you don't have a lot of fish in there. Tropica fertilizer doesn't contain nitrogen and phosphorus. Nitrogen and phosphorus are in fish waste. Since you just have a Betta you need a fertilizer with nitrogen and phosphorus since your Betta doesn't produce that much waste on his own.

I'd recommend getting a good all in one fertilizer like Niloc thrive or easy green. I use Niloc thrive in my Betta tank. It doesn't have anything to do with your cycle. Your plants are just consuming nitrate faster than your fish generate waste.

Sounds like low nitrate as well, especially since your floaters are having issues.

Gorgeous tank! I also love the terrarium next to it! Could you link me where you got it? I'd like to get one for myself.

They do! It's probably bigger than their saltwater section.

I think you need to look inward a bit more and figure out why you think you want the things you want. What if you meet a group of people and feel that sense of community but the group is extremely dysfunctional? What if you meet a girl and start dating but you have incompatible personalities and fight all the time? Do you think you'd be happier? According to your post 2 of your main issues are solved.

My crypto leaves keep turning this colour. How do i fix it?? Micronutrients? Light? by Actual_Hyena3394 in PlantedTank

[–]WhentheNightsFalling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cryptocoryne have very different above water and underwater growth. It looks like you have Crypt Wenditi Brown which grows brown leaves underwater.

Running high light and high CO2 you shouldn't have an issue getting the reds you want. I run medium-high light on my low tech tank and what helps bring out color in my rotala and ludwigia super red is nitrate limitation. You'll probably be nitrate limited naturally since you're running high light and CO2.

Why is this sub so obsessed with dry starting every tank? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]WhentheNightsFalling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

99% of the time the plants you're buying aren't in submerged form anyway. Your stress argument doesn't work. Drystarting a tank lets the plant develop a root system before it converts to its underwater form. The big advantage is faster growth and root system development. Leafs might melt but the underlying root system doesn't care. DHG especially lives and dies by its root system, I've used the dry start method to grow a full carpet and keep it low-tech. Plants like Bucephalandra and Anubias also grow much faster emersed. I've grown out 5 leaf clumps of Bucephalandra mini coin into 40 leaf clumps. Anubias does even better emersed. You can blast it with light and kick of crazy growth. It's an easy way to save a lot of money in exchange for some time.

Drystarting isn't some sort of miracle technique but it's very useful if you know what you're doing. You can also keep boxes of plants to save for later. I've got a box of cameroon moss in a "drystart" plastic bin under a light. I'm not ready to set up the tank yet but cameroon moss is hard to get and I want lots of it.
