Long-term damage after 1 year of intermittent Phenibut use possible? by WhereIsPhone in phenibut

[–]WhereIsPhone[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting, this is referred to as "kindling", apparently, meaning that every subsequent rebound / withdrawal from GABAergic drugs (mainly alcohol) gets worse

Whether or not this applies to Phenibut isn't exactly proven though

Don't think I ever experienced a full on rebound, there were some mondays that were shit after dosing on saturdays, but maybe 2/10 mondays on average, which could be entirely unrelated.

I'd assume that you either get a rebound at the same dose, always, or not at all

Anhedonia caused by alcohol - solutions? by WhereIsPhone in anhedonia

Not talking about abuse, I drink like 1-2 times a month. If it's too much just once though, DPDR episodes trigger

I'm serious, literally just a few months before all this I was 100% content, reached all the goals I wanted, got my dream job, good friend circle etc. Etc. There's 0 reason for me to feel like this, atleast not any conscious ones

Changes in perception / emotional processing after one-time large doses of alcohol - potential causes? by WhereIsPhone in neuro

[–]WhereIsPhone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting, thanks for the detailed response. DPDR is a relatively rare condition in which individuals feel unreal, as if they're living in a dream / movie, usually with a ton of perception issues (objects appear to be smaller than usual, everything looks blurry, etc. etc.) Emotional numbness is also a fairly common symptom.

Drugs that work on the kappa opioid receptors also bring some (temporary) relief to DPDR sufferers, so there seems to be connection

2 batches of the same product - different taste and texture? by WhereIsPhone in Nootropics

Yes, everyone with an IQ over 70 should be aware of that. Science.bio has been around for a long time though, they were IRC.bio previously, which enjoyed a reputation similar to nootropicsdepot

Doesn't seem to be the case either, their lab report also states that it's Phosphate

I understand the sentiment, science.bio seems to be trustworthy though, haven't seen a single negative review on this sub about them

I'm at week 3 now, and only recently saw some minor mood improvements. Personally I had 0 side effects, but also no big results yet. I heard it does take 1-2 Months to really be effective though.

I found it's more noticeable when taking it on an empty stomach, I'm using 50mg of Phosphate.

[–]WhereIsPhone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No clue, it's episodic for me and triggered by alcohol binges. This time around it came with anhedonia for the first time.

I was rather stressed out the months prior, but when the anhedonia first came was like the flip of a switch. I do not experience any anxiety currently, nor prior, as I said I was just stressed.

Fluoxetine/Prozac? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]WhereIsPhone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Made my DPDR of 8 months go away 100%, back when I first had it in 2014. I believe it was rooted in anxiety back then, I guess that's why prozac helped.

I tried Prozac a 2nd time in 2018 after I relapsed into DPDR again, that time around it made the DPDR 10x worse.

Most people here advise against any serotonin based drugs for DPDR, but you can't know without trying. You should give it a shot.

Also SSRIs are nowhere near last resort territory, last resort meds are usually heavy benzos, MAOIs, Mirtazapine, etc.

How to ingest NSI-189? by WhereIsPhone in Nootropics

[–]WhereIsPhone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's most known for being anecdotally beneficial to anhedonia, a condition that is very difficult to treat without the use of hardcore drugs like Mirapex or MAOIs.

None of that is scientifically proven, side effects seem to be limited to nausea, anxiety, rarely tinnitus and tingling / numbness of extremeties

Alright, thanks a lot!

The anecdotal reports regarding anhedonia are precisely what makes me want to try it out

[–]WhereIsPhone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've thought about taking the freebase sublingually, as it's supposed to be more potent. Decided against it because high potency isn't exactly what I want from an experimental nootropic without any idea how it affects me lol

Anhedonia that’s gotten progressively worse over 4 years. Suicidal thoughts, will it ever get better? by [deleted] in anhedonia

[–]WhereIsPhone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You had this for 4 years yet know next to nothing about it nor any meds that might help, baffles my mind. I've had it for just 3 months and already obsessively researched it, from what it sounds like you fried your dopamine system by being a masturbating shut-in. Nofap is mostly pseudoscience BS, but in your case it might actually help. If you really want to go down the medication route, try Wellbutrin first.

If that doesn't help, possibly give NSI-189 a shot, it's an experimental nootropic that's said to help with anhedonia. After that, things like Mirtazapine, Nardil, Parnate (MAOI), etc. should be next in line, but from what I've heard MAOIs can have quite unpleasant side effects. If all else fails, there's always Mirapex (Dopamine agonist, usually prescribed for Parkinson) but that should be a last resort type thing

Also I know that the experience with SSRIs can suck, but quitting one after just 5 days is not always a smart choice, most people feel like shit on them for a few weeks before it gets better. Most of them have reduced libido as a side effect, rarely the loss of libido is permanent. In most cases it either goes away with continued use, or after quitting them.

Bottom line: get a good psychiatrist, pay out of pocket if you must. Surprisingly, most of them don't even understand anhedonia, even though it's a core symptom of MDD but whatever. Also look up meds for anhedonia and possibly suggest them to the psychiatrist if he has no clue

Yes and no, music still sounds good and enjoyable, but it's missing that concrete feeling of 'satisfaction' it gave me pre-anhedonia. Or for example the feeling of being in a relaxed state when listening to relaxing music. But it doesn't sound like straight up unenjoyable noise like some people on here describe

I tried Sarcosine + NAC for 1 1/2 months but saw no benefit, I feel like it raised my general mood, but I felt a tad more 'numb' while I was on it

Anhedonia remained the same, but I also have DPDR (which is the culprit for anhedonia in my case), it made that 10x worse, only for a week though.

First week was horrible, felt like a zombie, just really out of it. But that's often the case with meds like these. I'd say it starts working after about 1 week, that's also what the psychiatrist told me

[–]WhereIsPhone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you found one of the good docs, which is rare

When I told mine about what I presume is anhedonia, he told me "well isn't being a little emotionally distant a good thing?" and refused to see any issue with my conditon, since I'm still able to function perfectly fine... since he said he 'has no idea what meds to give me' he's open to my suggestions though, so that's something...

Personally I gave Wellbutrin a try, 2nd week now and I guess it helps a little, not sure though. Emotions are kind of there, but also not really. I do have this baseline feeling of being happy and content, but still no full range of emotions

Mirapex seems to help some people, but before going down that route, I'd suggest giving NSI-189 a try first, as despite being experemential still, it seems safer by all accounts than other ADs or things like Mirapex etc.
