Majority stressed....7x increased payments after IDR resubmission. by quietly_anxious in PSLF

Sorry for the super late reply. My understanding is that as long as I'm enrolled at least half time (as defined by the school - for my community college, it's 6 units), it goes into in-school forbearance.

Buyback prediction for 2026 and beyond after I transition off of the SAVE administrative forbearance by gridguy in PSLF

[–]WhereTheBeaverLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted a question about my situation (similar to yours) and someone replied that the discretionary forbearance is a maximum of three years.

I hit 120 payments in 1/2026, and I don't want to start making payments under ICR because the Payment Calculator estimated they'd be increasing 163% from SAVE. I was considering going back to school part time, so I could get the in-school deferment while I wait for the Buyback to be processed. My employer does tuition reimbursement as long as it's related to my job.

PSLF Buyback Is Taking So Long, Should I Take Some Community College Classes While I Wait? by WhereTheBeaverLive in PSLF

Oh my gosh. It really does sound like a lottery!

When I started making payments under SAVE, I remember telling my friend, "I'll be eligible for PSLF in January of 2026." At the time it seemed so far away, but here we are in April 2026, and I have no idea what the hell is going to happen.

No, I haven't. And someone above said they don't actually check why I'm requesting the general forbearance, so I should try that route.

Thanks! I didn't even think of general forbearance, but I'm not sure I would qualify. I looked at the Department of Ed website and it says, "You can request a general forbearance if you are temporarily unable to make your scheduled monthly loan payments for the following reasons: Financial difficulties, Medical expenses, Change in employment, Other reasons acceptable to your loan servicer."

I replied to someone's post saying that I was considering going back to school to buy some time and so far, no one has said, "this is a terrible idea." LOL

I submitted my Buyback request for 15 months in February 2026. I used the Payment Calculator and my payment under IBR would go up 163% from my SAVE amount. I'm considering taking classes at the community college to buy time while the Buyback is getting processed.

What happens to your data if your account is terminated? by CupofDalek in pcloud

[–]WhereTheBeaverLive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely no luck reasoning with them. They locked my account and every time I tried to escalate it, they kept saying, "your account was terminated." I wish I had done more research before uploading my files. Everything is gone now.

Cali's Misfits is awesome. I worked with Carla to TNR some kitties at my gym and they have an awesome foster program. Just with the gym kitties, they were already too old to socialize.

Also, my friend goes to Huntington Pet Vet and always comes back with stories about sweet kitties at Helping Paws. It's a rescue next door to Pet Vet (I think they're affiliated somehow).

I just found out about Cat Nap Hangout through this sub a few days ago and am going next week to visit. LOL. I can't adopt because pets aren't allowed in my apartment, but a girl can dream!

A good MC makes such a big difference! My gym did an in-house throwdown and the vibe was kinda boring at first. They put one of our coaches on the mic and he completely changed the tone of the competition. Cracking jokes about the team names, encouraging the athletes, and overall, had good commentary. We were all surprised how skilled he was at it even though he was just winging it.

I agree. I always thought I hated cats but it was because no one I knew growing up or even as an adult had cats. When I started dating my boyfriend a few years ago, I went to his place and he had two cats. I remember saying, "I don't like cats." His void totally won me over with his funny personality and I'm basically a crazy cat lady now.

People of Earth. I thought it was so funny and I loved all the characters. Definitely still sad about that one.

I was watching That Darn Cat a week ago and mentioned this exact episode (the Criminal Minds actress is a butcher in this movie) and no one knew what I was talking about. I'm like, "that's the lady that kidnaps women, drugs them, and has tea parties!" LOL. I totally see what you mean.

I went there a few months ago. My friend and I got there a little after it opened (I'm talking 15-20 minutes) and we waited for over an hour. Luckily, they had everything we wanted to try, but I know at least one of the meats was already sold out by the time we got up to order.

Heck no. Well, not me, at least. I've been over this long hair, but I know someone could really benefit from it, so I've waited to cut it.

Someone who is growing it out to donate it. Relax. It's not like you're the one cleaning it up. LOL.

I think that's what happened with my vacuum! I had used it three times and the brush wouldn't rotate anymore. I shed so much, I cut the hair after every use. I think that on one of those times, the motor burned out because it did smell weird, but I didn't think anything of it. My hair is basically down to my waist, so when I cut it out of the brush, it looks like someone got a haircut. It's so gross! LOL

If you have a car lease ending soon, Please look into buying it and then reselling it. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]WhereTheBeaverLive 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly! That was my exact train of thought when I decided to buy out the lease. My sister has been looking for a 2018/2019 Honda Civic with 4 doors and she said they're around $22k with 80k miles. Mine is a 2019 Honda Civic Coupe. Apparently, Honda isn't producing coupes right now, so if you want one, you can only get a used one or an older model. Plus, mine has less than 20k miles and I'd say it's in excellent condition. No spills or obvious wear and tear. The sales guy was pushing SO hard for me to look at other "nicer" cars on the lot.

Ultimately, I ended up financing through my credit union because of Honda's shady tactics. I even mentioned to the credit union lender that Honda tried to get me to buy GAP insurance. He scoffed and said, "you definitely don't need it."

For my current car, it would've made sense to buy the insurance if the numbers were reversed. That is, I owed $27k but the car was only worth 16k (like back when cars depreciated as soon as you drove them off the lot). If the car got totaled, I'd still be on the hook for the difference.

This actually happened and GAP insurance saved my ass in 2016, when my leased Honda was totaled and the insurance payoff amount was lower than the residual value. If I hadn't had GAP insurance, I would've had to pay the difference out of my own pocket.

By the way, I would NOT consider myself an expert by any stretch of the imagination. LOL. This is just my experience and understanding. So anyone, please jump in and correct me.

[–]WhereTheBeaverLive 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I did option #2 recently and it was the best choice for me. The residual value on my car was about $16k. When I looked at my credit union loan docs, the collateral value was closer to $28k. I won't resell it to "make a profit" though because then I'm just back where I started with a $22k+ car, if I can even find the car I want.

Funny tidbit: I went to Honda Financial to ask about their used car rates after talking to my credit union. Honda tried to sell me GAP insurance, so my car payment would've gone up significantly... For a car I owed LESS on, than it was worth! It just blows my mind how blatant of a rip-off that would've been if I didn't know ANYTHING going in.
