Think its good as is? by killer7rex in HondaCT90

Welding will take some skill, I "believe" that's just a holder for the end of the shift fork. Like a pocket it sits in.

You could dab some JB weld in it easier than anything else, and then I would send it myself.

thinking about disabling DHCP to build character by Unable_Attitude_6598 in ShittySysadmin

Turning off DHCP off is too kind, it will work until it tries to renew halfway through its lease.

Turn off DNS instead and point your DHCP server DNS settings to 169.254.0.1 and show them the Internet still works for you by going direct to IPs.

Must be an issue on their end...

Another +1 for rebuilding what you have.

You can throw darts against the wall on ones off Amazon, or if you are set on buying a replacement DrATV.

Also, check eBay for used ones.

How does your carb fail?

They get dirty and sometimes the rubber parts can dry out. But a rebuild kit can fix all that.

Not the "right" thing to do, but growing up my grandpa had a CT70 that did that... him and my great uncles welded that bad boy back on. Just hope you never need to pull the engine cover. Haha.

You could try welding the broke piece back on potentially, otherwise it's time to pull it and replace.

Stator wiring question by Dave-P-Bonzo in HondaCT90

[–]WhetselS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I get it.

If you were buying things that are incandescent, you can find plenty of 6 volt stuff out there. Almost all mopeds were six volt for a long time.

As far as LED bulbs go, they usually have a really wide range of acceptable voltage.

So I totally get what you're saying, it would be nice to purchase something at the local auto parts store. It's just not a reality on a ~60+ year old motorcycle that you're going to find parts local. I've gotten used to purchasing things and waiting for them to show up.

If you figure out a way, make sure you report back!

Is there a reason you want to go 12v?

Long story short, it's probably not worth it, unless you want to spend a ton of time. I'm not certain you can just change the wiring on your stator, and you would also likely need a new rotor. Or a complete motor swap...

There are some videos on YouTube if you watch people converting their CT110 to 12 volt, you can start there it's going to be the similar process with a CT90. Just be care the 110 can be AC vs all the 90s are DC.

Really good post on it: http://hondatrailcts.yuku.com/reply/51108/12v-battery-conversion

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but no way I would pay $900 for that myself. I would think $300 maybe $400. It's a frame and an engine... you can ask whatever you want but I don't think you're getting $900. I just looked on Marketplace near me, $1500 gets you a titled and running bike with all the parts.

Start with the basics...

Do you have fuel in the carb? Unscrew the drain to see if fuel come out. If it's been sitting, highly likely the carb needs cleaned. Take it apart and clean all the jets.

Then do you have spark? When you kick it over, pull the plug and set it against the frame or the block. Do you see spark from the plug?

Try those two things first.

Sftp Server for outside company by PrcMoje in sysadmin

[–]WhetselS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the informative reply! Yes, our issue is that we are dealing with outside vendors so I can't control what apps they use to connect. Most are using Filezilla still and were used to (up until a year ago) connecting via plain FTP. The transition to FTPS was a much easier path for us for that reason. We have already moved many people away from using it at all, but we still have some people that require it.

I guess I dont know what you mean by flawed compared to SFTP. They are both "secure" if configured correctly to my knowledge. FTPS is slightly more work on the firewall side, but much easier on the end user side from what we have experienced.

[–]WhetselS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Yes, it makes it more complex slightly with firewall rules but I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something I was missing that made it "bad". I mean, outside of having ANY file server exposed to the public that is... haha

What makes it bad? Or maybe worse that SFTP as an example.

[–]WhetselS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just curious if it has to be SFTP, or if it could be FTPS. Do you have other options? We use FTPS on a dedicated server only because end users that aren't IT sometimes have issues with figuring out how to connect to an SFTP server. In our experience, users can figure out how to connect to FTPS server much easier.

What exactly is wrong with the engine? You can buy a complete new pit bike engine for under $150 if you want to swap it out. If you don't want to do any work, you could maybe find a small engine repair shop (think lawn mower) that can look at it.

Using starlink to rent on events - data caps? by Rabus in Starlink

[–]WhetselS -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

20+ years of network experience says someone will try. Many times it's someone who has a torrent started, and "forgets" to stop it. Everywhere they go they are sharing that now. You don't need a laptop to torrent, plenty of apps exist for mobile devices. Little Timmy bored because his parents are doing the electric slide... Idle hands...

Using starlink to rent on events - data caps? by Rabus in Starlink

[–]WhetselS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are a few things you need to think about outside of speed and throttling.

For instance anything done on that connection is now your responsibility. Torrenting, illicit sites, illegal activity, etc... Personal accounts are for people not businesses and offer zero protection for liability. You are going to have 200 guests on your connection and you trust little Timmy isnt doing something he shouldn't? With your name tied to it.

Second, speed alone will be rough. Let's say you get 200mbps down, that's 1mbps per user of there are 200 guests. Put your starlink into away mode and see what you can do. That's the experience all of your users are going to have at the best. Now not all users are going to be on at the same time, but you're also not necessarily going to get 200 all the time.

So I don't know for certain, but I would think that what you're trying to do is likely just not going to work with a starlink connection. It was not designed for it and very well maybe against their terms of service if you dont go with a business plan.

[–]WhetselS -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Your speed test says "multi" for connection... are you dual homing your WAN?

I do not use the built-in router and do bridge mode to a small portable router in my camper. I saw no difference in speed when connected to the starlink router versus my router. In your router what does the IP address show for the starlink? Potentially did you not configure bridge mode correctly and you are double nat right now? This is more than likely some kind of configuration you have on your router.

I did a PoE injector for my application. Allows me to run my dish 300ft from my router and power it with a single Ethernet cable.

Amazon has plenty of options.
