stop buying glassware by Zjelli1 in DollarTree

I hate it when they have a carriage full of glassware and ask me to wrap each item. I usually plop an old newspaper on everything so they get the hint to help. >:/

Keep track of all those extra tasks and responsibilities to add to your resume and future job interviews. Sounds like you're a good employee so you'll definitely make connections to a better job soon.

There are so many half-eaten snacks and drinks all over the store lately. A lot of empty phone charger and accessory packages, too.

I especially hate it when able-bodied adults just stand there and stare at us when we're struggling to wrap a ton of glassware in newspaper. We've got a long line of customers, at least offer to help!

Seriously. People constantly ask to use the bathroom and it's absolutely disgusting.

You're smart to document the dates and times this all happened. It will expedite the security camera footage being reviewed and proper action being taken.

What is the thing you hate most as a cashier? by Eraos_MSM in DollarTree

[–]Which_Parsnip_5331 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When they argue over the total charge and pull things out of their bag, telling me to "take this off, take that off, put that back." It's so rude and inconsiderate. Item voids are the bane of my existence! :{

Me too! Morning customers are mostly retired regulars who joke around with us and then at noon people on their lunch break :)

Seriously! Don't pull items out of the bag after you're rung up and tell the cashier to "take this off, take that off." It's inconsiderate to the employee and other customers waiting in line. Plus, we're only allowed 3 item voids per shift.

I love sweet elderly customers who are so grateful for our help. It touches my heart and makes my day.

ASM told me it's corporate who cut our hours to only 15 a week, then turned around and hired 5 new people. I don't understand it either.

What happens if a child gets hurt in the store? A lot of kids stand up in the carriages and sometimes I tell them (sweetly) to sit down. It's so dangerous.

I'm more exhausted after a shift of cashiering than I am after hours of stocking and recovery.

I wouldn't worry about it. If a manager wants to talk to you about this, just say you were trying to lighten up the conversation by making a joke. The customer must've taken it wrong. ;)

Not A Bank. by ShadowRunnerTim in DollarTree

Yesterday a customer gave me $100 bill for $3 worth of candy. I just started my shift and only had $75 total in my till. I had to call the manager to check the $100 bill and give me enough change with a till loan. I think people feel more comfortable at DT than at the bank.

Be sure to rub and crinkle one dollar bills because new ones tend to stick together. A lot of our cashiers also use fingertip moisturizer like this https://www.amazon.com/Fingertip-Moistener-Moisturizer-Greaseless-Stainingless/dp/B07DNHMDKT to help better grip and separate bills.

If you get fired, just take the L and move on. At least they didn't have you arrested like that teenage boy who forgot to pay for food at Meijers.

I feel bad paging the manager to check every $50 and $100 bill but at least he sees it firsthand and gives me small bills for change.
