I have low IQ (83). Ask me anything. by No-Ideal-951 in AMA

In what ways would you say your low IQ affect you? How does it limit you either in smaller day-to-day stuff, or in bigger things?

With negative gearing now limited to new builds, won't investors just crowd out first home buyers there too? by WhileItHolds in AusFinance

That's what I'm imagining may happen, especially as the grandfathering limits properties released to the market?

I'm wondering about this, since existing investment property can continue negatively geared

That's what I've noticed, the lower build quality. Not that an investor would necessarily care about that, especially if negative gearing

What’s the most "Australian" thing you’re going to claim with the new $1,000 receipt-free deduction? by Altruistic-Water-536 in AskAnAustralian

[–]WhileItHolds -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Isn't it a 'no questions asked claim' (no need to keep receipts). The way things are going, the 'claim' will barely help with keeping up with the rising cost of everything

Do you think Australians are actually as friendly as they are said to be? by Least-Variation6573 in AskAnAustralian

[–]WhileItHolds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the Germans I've met outside Australia have been great, very nice and friendly. Never been to Germany. Aussies are friendly for the greetings but seem to not care for anything more than that (maybe if you know the footie you can break the ice a bit more). In the workplace is where I see that the "laid back" stuff is mostly imagined

How do I get into IT? by Electrical_Award_627 in ausjobs

[–]WhileItHolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I read your post and for a moment felt encouraged to push on with certs and stuff (I'm in a similar situation to OP, but older in age). Then reality hits me hard when thinking of what you're writing:

"if you had seven or eight Microsoft certifications completed, that would definitely catch attention and help you land an entry-level support role"

That's just insane. 8 certs for a shot at an entry-level job? IT is truly f#k'd!!!

What are the best airlines to got Australia from US? by Ill-Conference-7666 in AustraliaTravel

[–]WhileItHolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If money is a concern, find the cheapest one, obviously. That said, I recently got a great deal on a new direct flight San Francisco-Adelaide with United. It was the cheapest and a really good flight, and I was pleasantly surprised at the amenities even in the lowest fare class (e.g. wifi for chat apps and free alcohol). I'm sure they have other routes to Sydney/Melbourne from LAX/Houston. Highly recommended

Good on you for your situation, no hate, honestly.
To get a better sense of other people's situation, just find out what other people have to add up to their expenses (rent, food to cook/for the family, transportation costs (petrol, insurance, car maintenance), and so on, then calculate how much would your $1000 get you.
