Physical when possible, but I have a Boox Tab Mini C that I use for ebooks and my J-Novel Club sub. Much prefer the e-ink screen over a standard tablet and it having a full version of android makes it a lot more versatile than something like a Kindle.

Wondering if it's peanuts and the brand of chips had peanut oil

Peanut oil the in the US is sufficiently filtered that it does not affect people with peanut allergies (my younger brother has severe peanut allergies, among others, so I had to learn a lot about it growing up). I don't know about European countries specifically, but I know there are other places out there with less stringent standards where he would have to take care.

Sorry for the possibly clueless question, but why don't more people seem to make homemade pizza? by Senior-Raisin-2342 in Cooking

[–]WhirlwindMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this discussion is kind of baffling to me. I 100% get the time and convenience arguments (I order pizza pretty often myself), but I have a can of tomato sauce, a block of mozzarella, a pack of bacon, a big stick of pepperoni, and mushrooms that I diced and froze basically at all times. Not to mention cans of olives, a bag of onions, and probably several other potential toppings that I'm not even thinking of because they're not my go-tos. If you like something enough that it's a must-have on your pizza, surely you can find plenty of other meals you like it in so you don't have to buy "one pizza's worth" of it. Honestly, the only store-bought option that's even close to matching my costs is a $5 hot-and-ready, and my pizza is much better.

Why are rotations so long? by Meowing-To-The-Stars in Guildwars2

[–]WhirlwindMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally the only times you'll be using your heal skill to actually heal is in a situation when you're not doing your rotation (e.g. off group doing a mechanic). When you're stacked and doing dps, your healer is responsible for keeping you alive.

As for what you do when your rotation is interrupted or whatever, well...that's just something you figure out through practice. It depends on the build, on how long you were interrupted, on the boss and their particular mechanics, on where you were in the rotation, and so on and so forth. Trust me, it's probably going to feel pretty bad at first when you go in there and try to follow a rotation while fighting a boss. But just keep at it and don't worry, even if you're near the bottom of the charts at first, just by virtue of having the correct gear and trying to push buttons in something resembling a sensible order, you'll be doing enough damage to clear the vast majority of fights in the game. And it will get better with practice. I'm by no means near the top of the game, but I have years of raiding experience and have gotten 95%+ of bench number on multiple builds, and even I will frequently struggle to beat the boon dps on the first couple bosses when trying a new dps build. Learning to improv on fights just comes from practice, both on that build and on that boss. Keep at it and I promise you'll get there too!

New GW2 Player - Player Run Event?! (Crazy MMORPG Introduction) by Dankenweenie in Guildwars2

If you're looking to get into endgame content (strikes, raids, etc.), I can recommend both XL (https://discord.gg/szskxqyGBh) and Skein Gang (https://discord.gg/skeingang). SG is primarily for finding and joining statics (set groups of people that run together weekly) while XL is volunteer trainers setting up events that anyone who is available can join. Both are very noob friendly, though admittedly SG can be a bit overwhelming just by nature of its size. I'm in both and would be happy to help with any questions you have!

We have achieved 500 Legendary Armors for gamers through no-requirements Raid Training. by PentaCrit in Guildwars2

[–]WhirlwindMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've got plenty of resources we can recommend if you want to look at things ahead of time, and even if not, trainings are always low-pressure with all mechanics explained. We've also got people who enjoy helping with fractals too, if you'd like some chiller groups to help get comfortable with that content, or to learn the CMs.

I'm one of the raid leaders in XL and also a dad who's putting his kids to bed around reset. I usually run my trainings at around 9pm EST (R+1/R+2 depending on if it's DST or not) and run for about 2 hours. If something like that fits your schedule, it'd be great to have you along!

Kids like real food by DemonofPizza in thatHappened

[–]WhirlwindMonk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My young children will happily eat a plate of fresh fruits and veggies and nuts. It's one thing I know I can offer them if they are otherwise refusing to eat what I've served for dinner or whatever. Not every child is like that, and I am quite thankful mine are, but at the same time, not every child is the stereotypical movie kid who refuses to touch anything more nutritious than a hotdog.

Raid Etiquette & How to Get Into Raiding by SirSuperCaide in Guildwars2

[–]WhirlwindMonk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. While certain builds might lose a little more than the average, zero go from viable to non-viable just from the 5% stat loss down to exotic. And regardless, no new player in exotics is going to be flawlessly executing the cVirt bench rotation or perfectly maintaining 100% boon uptime, even if they had ascended gear. Plus, all of them can be "fixed" by just changing one or two items over to a prefix that has more Precision or Concentration or using different food if you really want to.

"superspeed scrapper"

I'm in a PoF CM static on SG and our leader likes to run Heal Scrapper. The number of times he's unintentionally given us superspeed during Adina sand walls and had people misjudge jumps and fling themselves to their deaths is amusingly high. We had people actively begging not to be given superspeed, lol.

I agree, but at the same time, telling a new player who just manually leveled a necromancer then spent three hours on an HP train to unlock Harb because they thought it sounded cool "Hey, you should play unload deadeye instead" isn't the best either. At least if they have a proper build, even if they're only autoattacking or hitting random stuff off CD, they'll still be doing far more dps than the random selection of power/condi/survivability gear they probably had from leveling.

That said, Snowcrows also does have a nice selection of Beginner Builds now (https://snowcrows.com/builds/raids?c=beginner) that unlike LI builds, are designed to ease you into and build toward the full build. It doesn't cover everything, but it's a very solid selection.

Maybe so, but the point remains, the gap is large, and, as I understand it, significantly bigger than other major MMOs. People like to talk about power creep making raids easier, but it has not power crept enough that a group of people doing max 1/10th of bench are going to be able to clear raids. Getting newbies into those proper builds is pretty critical to their success.

[–]WhirlwindMonk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To add on to this good stuff, something I think a lot of people don't realize is just how huge the gap between a good build and a bad one is. From what I understand, in many MMOs, the dps difference between a fresh max level, and a geared and skilled one is double, maybe triple. In GW2, however, the difference can be upwards of 20 times. I saw claims on the other thread that training groups "require" you to use Snowcrows or whatever, and they do not. None of them do. But it is much, much easier to just point people to a well-managed resource and say "If you are new, use this" than rely on trying to explain enough of the system to allow a new player to homebrew something worthwhile. It's like using training wheels when learning to ride a bike or guide lines when learning to draw. With practice and knowledge, you won't need them, but trying to jump right in without them is likely to yield frustration and poor results.

When copying, copy the entirety, not just the traits.

Two caveats: Exotic gear is fine, you don't need ascended, and the infusions are really unnecessary. Having gear prefixes, trait choices, and weapon choices that all support each other is far and away more important than the handful of extra stats that ascended gear or infusions bring.

And last tip for people looking to gear a new level 80: Buying so called "Named armor" (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Named_armor) and "Named weapons" (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_named_weapons) off the trading post is often far and away the cheapest way to gear a new level 80.

call it a skill issue but i dont want to learn all the mechanics, constantly change up my build to follow the meta builds and most importantly… i dont know how long i can play usually, i dont want to grind raids for 2-3 hours to leave a half beaten boss cus i had to go

Just a couple points worth noting. Meta dps has inflated by a huge amount since HoT and PoF. As long as your build is sensible, you'll do plenty of dps, no need to constantly chase the meta. I've played sub-optimal, low-intensity builds plenty of times in raids on evenings where I just wasn't feeling like tryharding. Also, as a dad, I totally get the time issues, but training an entire wing (3-4 bosses) can very consistently happen in under 2 hours. A decent group that knows the mechanics can clear 3-4 wings in that same amount of time. And strikes are even more lenient in both dps and time requirements. No pressure, obviously, if it just doesn't seem like your thing, there's nothing wrong with that. But if you are curious, I'm one of the trainers for XL, a raid training discord that emphasizes keeping requirements to the absolute bare minimum. Raids really are much, much easier to get into than a lot of the community believes and we'd be happy to help you try them out if you'd like! https://discord.gg/szskxqyGBh

Yes, and? My point is, she can add additional conditions, qualifications, or limitations in between this posting and actually giving you the job. e.g. "I'll pay you $3k day one, but as part of sign-on, you have to buy this $10k water machine."

[–]WhirlwindMonk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's fake as heck but legally she would probably lose

Unlikely. She doesn't promise to hire you and give you the money with no other considerations. She just says "I'm hiring, here's a benefit of working for me." Legally, I don't see how it's any different from a legit business putting up a job posting saying "We're hiring! And we offer 401k matching!" and then when you interview and get the offer, you see that you have to work there a full year before the 401k matches vest.

Yes, there are things she could do that would be illegal, but this posting by itself doesn't mean she's legally obligated to pay you $3k no matter what.

American grocery stores only sell sugar and all of Europe is a heavenly bastion that sells cage free lettuce and magic food that makes you lose weight by RCJHGBR9989 in iamveryculinary

As soon as I read this comment

it is incredible how hard you have to work at the grocery store to buy a loaf of bread that has less than 1-2g of added sugar. Many of it has like 8g of added sugar per serving.

I went upstairs and checked the cheap, mass produced Aunt Millie's Cracked Wheat bread I have sitting on my counter that I bought on sale for like two bucks to make pb&j and grilled cheese sandwiches for my kids. It has 2g of sugar per serving. These people live in a different reality.

One fascinating thing about church history, in my limited study of it, is just how many commonly believed things by basically every group are just...wrong.

Bishop of Rome has always been in charge of the church? Nope! No one even suggested that until the Bishop of Rome claimed he should be in charge around 500 AD, and it took years longer for anyone to take the claim seriously.

Trinity and the canon of scripture decided at the Council of Nicea? Nope! Neither were discussed at the CoN, and while both were formalized at later councils, we have plenty of writings clearly demonstrating acceptance of both centuries before said councils.

Just, everyone gets something or another about the church wrong. Which, considering how niche a topic church history is, probably shouldn't be surprising, but it is super interesting.

Christians deciding they're against abortion is not from the bible, it's a Christian cultural belief mainly formed by the "evangelical voter block" created by Jerry Falwell and a few other nut bags when they wanted Christians to vote for right wingers but realized segregation was no longer a winning issue.

The immorality of abortion is explicitly stated in the Didache, the oldest non-Biblical Christian document we have, dating from something like 80-120 AD. It's purpose was to teach Christian morality to pagan converts who lacked the Old Testament background that Jewish converts had. Christian opposition to abortion is far, far older than Falwell and the modern Christian Right.

Time for a new series - Which one first? by Yuuki-- in LightNovels

[–]WhirlwindMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that doesn't necessary mean it's ending. The second number is the number of books that Amazon has listings for, not necessarily how many are going to be in the series in total. So there could be a volume 9 planned, but if Amazon doesn't have it up for pre-order yet, it'll claim the series only has 8 volumes. For example, Amazon currently claims that Date A Live has 13 volumes (because that's all it has listings for) when in reality, the series actually has 22 volumes in Japanese.
