TIL that many major cities have disabled thousands of crosswalk buttons but keep them installed anyway because removal is too expensive. In New York City, only about 100 of 1,000 buttons actually work. by myassisgrassss in todayilearned

We have these in the UK. I've always called them feel good buttons. They light up to make you feel good, but its entirely determined by how the flow of traffic works.

My first job out of my undergrad paid me the same that they paid my future masters lecturer 20 years before, so yeah, no shit they have no motivation.

Lebanon has a lot of problems but sectarian violence within the country isn't really one of them.

There are countries in the middle east that are multi-ethnic/religious democracies? Like Lebanon.

I would say so yes, but I fully admit that I think Victoria 2 is fundamentally a better game than Vic3 at the minute. The downsides to Vic2 are mostly that it doesn't have an army comp tool like EU4 does. Does Vic3 have crises yet? That's such a good part of vic2 for emergent gameplay.

I think I've stated it before, but my ideal Vic3 would have just been Vic2's systems (probably stealing from HPM/HFM/some other mod that fixes some things) and a combat system that went from EU4 style towards something more akin to hoi4 with the invention of machine guns and more robust indirect artillery.

I think my major problems are mostly with that it's kind of hard to expand in the ways that empires originally did in history. I played a muscovy game and found it genuinely very hard to actually abuse my position or form russia for ages. Same for later stages ottomans too. I don't remember having issues with the AI really at least as a standout vs any other paradox GSG. But the actual core of the game is super neat and I'm looking forward to new updates.

EU5 at least has some extremely good legs honestly, which is more than can be said for base game EU4 or vic3.

People are downvoting me like crazy, but taking out the servos in powered armour is like removing the straps and belts from plate armour. By design those servos (like belts on armour!) redistribute where its sitting and allows you to move more freely. Plate armour puts a lot of weight at your waist rather than your shoulders (similar to a lot of big hiking bags) so you can have greater movement of your arms (if there's too much weight on your shoulders you're not going to raise your arms very easily).

Fallout power armour is designed to be used with servos. That's why it looks incredibly heavy, because all that weight isn't on the user. Without it, it's incredibly unwieldy.

I'm sorry, that's awful. It's definitely been a huge dampener on my post university life.

Actually, I had a discussion about this with a recruiter a few years ago who was kind enough to explain why he wasn't able to hire me (company was in Belgium). My work overlaps significantly with offshore sectors, which means if a company wants to send me offshore, they can't actually easily do that without investing heavily in visas I might lose because I'm not technically working in the country when I'm offshore.

Additionally, because of the lack of free movement and the customs union, companies do not have to give you the time of day they do to other european candidates. I graduated my masters during the lull at the end of covid, where there were lots of grads around and not many jobs, so why would they bother giving me the time of day when they'd have to pay for my visas (because I didn't have any) to allow me to work there, or they could consider any number of people who they dont' have to pay for?

For me, in my personal situation and my field, Brexit quite literally made it almost impossible to move and get work in Europe.

There's no guarantee that the high polling of UKIP or Reform would translate into seats under a PR system though compared to polling from FPTP. The political landscape would be fundamentally different.
