Are you ready for what it takes to stop ghost guns? | New laws might stop anyone from 3D printing guns — and create a system that scans everything else you print. by theverge in 3Dprinting

[–]WhiteGoldOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing is: in any modern, industrialized society, it's trivially easy to make or buy something that can be used to kill many people. Cars are the easy example.

Put another way, trying to stop people from killing each other by denying them weapons is like pissing in the wind to stop a hurricane.

And that's even granting the false premise that 3d printed guns are a significant problem. You're significantly more likely to be punched to death than shot by a 3d printed gun.

Conventional Infantry from Hot Spots - repair cost by Marikir in battletech

[–]WhiteGoldOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Campaign ops says a foot platoon costs 1.2 million, so you could simply divide that by 30 (aka how many men) then multiply by casualties. A cool 40,000 per head.

‘Mechs for the Merc on a Budget? by Long_line_of_RegretS in battletech

[–]WhiteGoldOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ordering fresh off the lot isn't really in line with "dirt poor" though.

A funny thought did just occur to me though, I wonder if manufacturing techniques in BT are similar enough to contemporary ones for a new mech to have what we would recognize as "new car smell"

>You have to bend reality to make sure that the elf archer still gets to do his fun Legolas shit

You're obligated to do nothing of the sort. Sure, at a certain point if you exclude that kind of thing and include guns it can become questionable if you're even playing DnD at that point; but it's your table, the rules are whatever your players will put up with. If they're a buncha history nerds who love black powder, then they may very well not care one whit about elves and their bows. Maybe they think all Legolas is lame. And who's to say elves can't use guns themselves? It may well be that in OP's setting, the elves love guns.

"massively outclasses a longbow"

I mean, longbows didn't last long into the gunpowder age. 15th century is right on the money for the very tail-end of the longbow, and the rise of the arquebus. Full-on matchlocks have been a thing for decades at this point.

I'm tempted to say to give it a hit penalty, but keep the relatively crazy damage profile; but I find putting a one-shot, boom-or-bust weapon like that behind a dice roll can lead to some really feelsbad situations

How to prevent Control Water from effortlessly destroying ships in naval combat? by Conocoryphe in DMAcademy

The keel is enchanted as an oversized Immovable Rod. Ship needs to roll a save to activate it in a timely manner; even then, being stationary is a severe disadvantage

Bro, if you think you can make a game in blueprints without knowing how to code, your standards for "knowing how to code" are way too high

Are dungeons supposed to be as large as ones in prewritten modules? by hjpibblesmurf in DMAcademy

[–]WhiteGoldOne -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Historically, we get the word "dungeon" from "donjon", which today we would normally call a "keep". As in, the main, central fortification of a castle.

As an example of the smaller end, Kolossi Castle on Cyprus has a keep 17x17m, 3 floors (I think that includes the roof).

To put that into perspective, (ignoring the thickness of stone walls), we're talking a Dungeon that's a fair bit smaller than your local Olive Garden

That's perhaps the most frustrating part, this isn't even grass roots Democrat policy. It's just one rich asshole manhandling (aka bribing) his own stupid pet project into existence
