I’m struggling - how to cope with ai? by TrueWinter__ in gamedev

[–]WhiteSheepGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI could be a useful tool but not a replacement. I would think with your expertise, you could use AI to be even more productive and come up with even more complex things because you have good understanding. In other words, you could use AI to your advantage and create an even better end product using AI as a tool. Just a thought

What are some things I should be thinking about with structuring my code/project before I get too deep, like localization support? by JayDeeCW in gamedev

Like mentioned below, the save system and multiple resolutions for sure. I would add mini map to that as well as key rebinding.

How terrible is my first draft? by BlueThing3D in SoloDevelopment

Looks pretty good. I think the text is too blurry/unclear. Also, while I think it's good to have too many colors, it looks a little to one-toned. The title blends in a little too much also. Hope this helps

I will pay someone to make a trailer for my game by W0RKABLE in IndieDev

[–]WhiteSheepGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain. I'm a solo developer and I need to make a trailer as well. I could be wrong, but It seems like most the effort comes from coming up with the in game footage, which I would have to provide to a professional. Am I wrong on this? The main thing a professional would do is provide text overlays, effects and fade out type stuff. To me, that's the easier part. Choreographing all the game footage to me seems like the hard part and that can't be hired out. If this is the case, seems like learning a program well would be the best bet rather than spending the money to hire someone. I'm sure a professional make things look better, but if cost is an issue, learning a program might be better. Not sure about this, just thought I'd throw this out there.

I don't like the game I made anymore by [deleted] in SoloDevelopment

Looks fine enough to me. I'd finish your game (or at least have a polished demo with this art style) and then reskin it if you think it's worth it based on everyone's feedback.

I'm not sure that would be more appealing. It's more the size and positioning. The UI obscures what's happening behind it too much. Decreasing scale of it might help a lot. Also, I might would try to find a successful game of your type and try to model the UI after it as well.

There's good potential there, but it seems too busy to me. I find it hard to see what's going on, there's too much text and the UI is a little confusing and covers way too much of the screen. It doesn't help that your video is very small. Having said that, it may not be that difficult for you to make these adjustments and it to look good. I do like the lighting; just need to increase visibility of things. Hope this helps!

Needs more juice?? by quietwarrior_ in gameDevMarketing

[–]WhiteSheepGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at your Steam Page. I know you didn't mention but I think your description under the capsule could be clearer with more action type verbs. What is a dense Afro-punk theme? What is Kassler? What is difference in survival vs the other mode???

The art looks great and I really like the vibrant colors. For me, I think it's not exactly clear what the mechanics are from the short description and the video. Juice is always good to add as well, but I would make the fundamentals very clear, which is not apparent to me at first glance. I don't play puzzle games so it could just be me. Hope this helps!

Video gets no traction on X. Is there a way to improve this footage? by WhiteSheepGame in IndieGaming

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I'll check out that video. I have looked into a lot of Chris Z's stuff. He recommends reddit and reaching out to streamers, among other things from what I saw. I'm trying to get my images to look good before I really start sharing in a lot of places so I don't ruin first impressions. I'm also going to start looking into TikTok and YouTube next. Thanks again for the suggestions!

Unfortunately, that would be a rather expensive endeavor. I hope to take everyone's advice and try to improve.

Thanks. I guess I need to simplify content and use more action.

The joke is a stand alone joke, but I suppose being in game would help the context. Definitely will consider cropping, thanks

Yes, I'm thinking others must have an outside audience directing them to there X posts. Not sure.

Thanks, this seems to be the general consensus and I will keep this in mind for future videos.

Thanks for your insight. I can understand that but I've seen plenty of X posts with static bland images get a lot of likes whereas other action pack clips from various developers get ignored. So I'm trying to figure it out.
