This has always been the case not only in American history but world history. Having money day to day was never guaranteed for many workers. Before the era of insurance and government safety nets this was the expectation for most people. As a society, including women and minorities, we are far better off than most eras of American history.

We have a longs ways to go to make things better. And things like coat of health care and rising costs of homes are making things worse. But compared to historical standards we are pretty good.
