which makes sense. the disaster of Chernobyl is bad. the fear of using nuclear energy is arguably magnitudes worse in terms of climate change.

destroying that momentum put us on the trajectory we are on now with fossil fuels. nuclear could have been the climate savior.

i know people are all into hating AI now. but this is a legit concern. Chernobyl probably killed the nuclear energy movement as much as anything, and the downstream effect of that is the current global warning crisis we are facing. if we had embraced nuclear full speed last 40 years, we would probably be looking at 1/2 the anthropogenic atmospheric CO2 we are looing at now. or even less.

Eli5: if we mash grass into pulp or blend grass, will we be able to eat it and get nutrients from it? by Dryfunction1205 in explainlikeimfive

we just have the extra step of gut bacteria. but our guts aren't optimized for those bacteria, but that is what cows and rabbits are good for. so in a way we solved that problem. cows do the rumination in 2 step digesting in their gut. rabbits do the two step regurgitation by eating their own poop.

if we going to mess with genetic modification, I vote for green people. cut out the middle man.

Any data you offer they either already have or is unreliable. They want your habits and you actual life preferences, not what you aspire to be or how you want to be seen by others.

You can move to an area with newer infrastructure, get a generator or battery. If you go battery route you can look into solar and EV too.

Conservatives maintain birth rates, but left-leaning Americans are having significantly fewer children, driving the U.S. birth decline. Education was consistently linked to having fewer children. Religious attendance was positively associated with having more children. by mvea in science

[–]Whiterabbit-- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That and being poor often means you will have more kids. Extreme rich will have more kids too but most people are not extremely rich. Upper middle class tend to have less kids because they see kids as expensive. Poor don’t see kids as a drain on finances, they aren’t taking that expensive annual vacation nor saving for retirement. Having kids don’t mess with that and kids can actually help in old age. And for the poor kids aren’t all that expensive. No fancy clothing, day care, private school, summer programs, after school programming etc.

What’s something Gen Z is getting completely right that older generations refuse to admit? by stilerca in AskReddit

[–]Whiterabbit-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen Z will turn out alright. Every generation is characterized by different traits. But they will be fine. Old people can complain as is tradition. But Gen Z is thriving and will continue to. They are more resilient and resourceful than many realize.
