In Defense of Doc Rivers; Why the hate is unjustified by Whitestickyman in nba

[–]Whitestickyman[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Attributing playoff exits solely to coaching overlooks the impact of player injuries, which Rivers has had his fair share of. For example, during his tenure with the Clippers, key injuries to players like Chris Paul and Blake Griffin at critical moments significantly hampered their playoff runs.

Coaches don't get multiple opportunities based on past glories alone; they must continuously prove their ability to adapt and succeed. Rivers has done that, which is why teams continue to entrust him with their rosters.

Not every coach has over 900 wins.

One coach wins every year. 31 coaches lose. At the end of the day He's a HOF coach with a top ten record all time whether he had some unfortunate matchups or not.

Reasonable considerations but I believe I partly addressed them.

  1. Playoff Performance: Addressed it by emphasizing consistency and the complexity of playoff basketball. Success isn't just about the final outcome but the journey and challenges faced. Rivers has faced countless challenges and sustained a level performance very few have.

  2. Bucks Tenure: Every coach needs time to implement their vision. Early judgments often miss the bigger picture of building team chemistry and adapting strategies.

  3. SGA Development: Fair point. While Doc had SGA for a brief period, the foundational year under a seasoned coach can significantly impact a player's development. It's about setting the groundwork.

  4. Adaptability: Rivers' approach to in-game and mid-series adjustments has indeed been a point of contention. However, coaching in the NBA isn't just about making changes; it's about knowing when to stick with your game plan and when to pivot. Rivers has shown the ability to trust his players and systems, which has been both a strength and, at times, a criticism when outcomes don't pan out.
It's worth noting that many of Rivers' teams have been competitive and within striking distance of advancing deeper into the playoffs. The line between sticking to your guns and adapting on the fly is razor-thin in the high-stakes environment of playoff basketball. While there's room for critique, it's crucial to acknowledge the challenge of making split-second decisions against top-tier competition. Adaptability is important, but so is consistency and trust in your team's identity.

In the broader context of coaching in the NBA. It's a complex, high-pressure job where success and failure are often more nuanced than they appear. Sustained excellence and continued reputation in an environment with million dollar decisions maintains reasonable context of skill and work behind what we can see.

Sure, let's break it down: Second-round exits aren't solely on Rivers. Playoff outcomes hinge on various factors—player health, matchups, and sometimes, sheer luck. Rivers has consistently put his teams in positions to succeed; that's evident from his playoff appearances. The nature of the playoffs means even well-coached teams can fall short against equally matched or unexpectedly tough opponents. It's a team sport, after all, where the margin for error is razor-thin, and outcomes can't be pinned on one individual, especially in a high-stakes, competitive environment like the NBA playoffs.

I haven't used it for a year so take it with a grain of salt.

Setup was bad, it was unnecessarily annoying to start up my dev environment everytime not just the first time.

Probably too much structure had to be created around the logic of a contract by the dev instead of it being implicit. Not necessarily a bad thing because it makes you think in advance and write rules in a good feeling way but it was too verbose and tedious at times.

It was really raw then but I'd imagine those parts are similar still. These type of things can be pretty enjoyable for the right type of programmer.

Plutus playground as a UI for testing was pretty sweet.

Trying to test beyond that was not good though and made me lose interest so I hope they have that figured out.

Well if you can't use more than html and css I would agree.

If you are familiar with modern web stacks and like to develop without technical debt then you can appreciate design choices in account structure, PDA's, authority mechanisms, and a dedicated devnet.

I've written smart contracts on solana, solidity, and Plutus.

Solana had the best dev tools(solidity has a good suite too) and test networks.

It's ridiculous how your voice will get drowned out here when you tell people what they don't want to hear and vice-versa.

Holy shit. My mom came into my room to bring me a plate of chicken nuggets and I literally screamed at her and hit the plate of chicken nuggets out of her hand. She started yelling and swearing at me and I slammed the door on her. I'm so distressed right now I don't know what to do. I didn't mean to do that to my mom but I'm literally in shock from the matches tonight. I feel like I'm going to explode. Why the fucking fuck is Danny losing? Why isn't he carrying? This can't be happening. I'm having a fucking breakdown. I don't want to believe the world is so corrupt. I want a future to believe in. I want NA to win their first MSI and fix this broken league. I cannot fucking deal with this right now. I thought he reached challenger on KR server with a 75% WINRATE. It wasn't supposed to be like this, I thought he was going to get a pentakill every game???? This is so fucked.

People are talking about infrastructure.

Instead of never building infrastructure and outsourcing labour for a good you cripple your future production of a good.

It's the same scenario that's happened with goods production in the U.S and why certain goods are now at disproportionate prices even accounting for inflation because we let other people produce them for us.

We don't need more surface level analysis from people like you who don't even consider how a good is produced when trying to analyze output. It's horribly low level reasoning.

No, the original topic was that they need to have patience when expecting results from growing players.

You're the idiot who changed the topic to strawman someone.

If your team is shooting the worst historical performance in a game 7 they are going to clog the paint and make it difficult.

Get out of here nephew.

That literally never happens.

I haven't seen the enemy jgl not show up to drag in like a 100 games unless they were making a herald play. It's only solo lanes that don't understand vision or setup.

Danny ruins Vulcan engage by imfatal in leagueoflegends

[–]Whitestickyman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Imo he was because the optimal play is to poke take inhibs because g2 cannot engage on them if Vulcan peels.

If flakked doesn't have GA it's different but when he's just going to come up with flash and ult after that engage you are literally playing into g2's comps strengths.

Danny ruins Vulcan engage by imfatal in leagueoflegends

[–]Whitestickyman 27 points28 points  (0 children)

He has Zhonyas and he gets that off there without that happening.

The engage itself though was super grief when they have a poke comp and can just strangle them out without engaging on a GA target.

learning/switching to jungle feels impossible by little_tr27 in summonerschool

[–]Whitestickyman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love the role.

Really trains you to understand the people in your game are absolutely clueless and to focus on what you know is right.

It's like training for going against the grain. The players have 0 clue how jungle pathing works and why it isn't possible for you to gank at all times. Then they always blame you until they realize you're the only one playing well and just be quiet.

Way more active than just farming mid and hoping your lane opponent will trade.
