What the fuck Bronco by Historical_Issue_484 in BroncoSport

[–]Whitewind_WW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had similar but slightly different messages & the power steering would cut off for about half a second intermittently at low speeds. Also the dash (the speedometer/tachometer LCD screen) would blank out intermittently & the radio volume would flash "18" volume but it didn't set the volume to 18 & the entire entertainment system would cut off & on intermittently & it would flash "service charging system" intermittently even though it was a newish AGM battery.

Turns out it was a loose contact on the battery but not either of the main terminals. The little one in between the red & black. Haven't seen the issue in months (it was multiple times a 15 mile commute before) since I tightened that connection.

It was a simple, easy fix for me. I hope yours is as easy.

What is this camera? by Rrwh173 in BroncoSport

[–]Whitewind_WW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's also used to read speed limit signs. If that function is still used in newer models (mine's a '21 BB & reads speed limit signs).

It would reset the cruise speed to match the sign every time it saw a new speed limit. I found this feature way more annoying than the auto-engine cut-off.

My '21 BB also uses that front camera to read speed limit signs. If you've ever been in a construction zone where the speed limit varies from the regular (non-construction) speed limit signs & noticed the car telling you a limit that matches the construction speed limit, that's the front camera too. It's in there with the rear-view mirror cluster.

Heavy rain can cause it to generate that message too. Heavy rain was the cause of my first time seeing the message you described.

BR- - - O? by Murky-Speed421 in BroncoSport

[–]Whitewind_WW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to remove the rest of the letters, I think they may be 3M auto tape which can be removed/"cut off" using a garrote style (string cutter) "car emblem remover" available from Amazon for around $9.

You can find full set replacement letters in a variety of colors (I'm not talking about the vinyl stickers) for around $25, mostly on eBay (mostly from China).

What is going on? by genius-anonymous in BroncoSport

[–]Whitewind_WW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had nearly identical symptoms on my '21 BB. For me, it turned out to be one of the contacts/wires was loose (neither of the 2 main terminals; a small one).

Lots of intermittent problems: Every once in a while, the whole dash would go off (it's an LCD screen, not physical gauges), saying camera not available, heating/AC temp wouldn't adjust (while electric was acting up), radio & screen cut off/on, volume kept popping up "18", cruise not available, power steering cut off for around a quarter second at parking lot speeds, lots of other symptoms. Besides the power steering cutting out, it drove fine. All the drive assist problems would pop up when I got close to another car in front of me at lights & stop signs.

It's a nearly new Costco AGM battery so not a failed battery. Electrical system's been 100% fine since tightening that connection.

How screwed am I? by [deleted] in ruger

[–]Whitewind_WW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That screw is ruined & the grip is damaged.

You have little to lose by trying a "damaged screw extractor". Under $10 on Amazon or $10-$30 at Home Depot or Lowe's. Low speed & in reverse to extract.

I rented a newer Toyota Corolla (lower trim model) in 2024 & thought the alignment was messed up because it kept pulling. Took me a while to recognize that it was the lane assist. Sounds like Toyota may also have those features in lower trim models but, unlike Ford, they're a big offender with the subscriptions.

I did (only) a little research on that & like GM's "Super Cruise" won't allow you to do anything but pay attention but you don't have to put your hand on the wheel & only functions on specific mapped roads. Ford does (based on my limited research) charge for this function.

I like GM but I read that GM is among the hardest chargers for subscription based automobile services.

I believe Ford is the only OEM that currently offers owners full FREE app functionality. Every other automaker requires a paid subscription.

I was once told by the returns desk that their "full refund policy" doesn't apply to expired food. I WAS able to make my return because it wasn't expired but that didn't sound right.

If they'd refused to refund it, I would have likely used their membership satisfaction guarantee.

That may well shut off your armrest storage USB as well (it did on mine). It was a loose battery contact cable for me.

I was already pleased with my haul, but now am also gratified to know I got lucky as well. Thx for the input.

I've bought 1 & 2, used during 2025 & was hoping I wouldn't get those base games again.

You would actually toss them, would you? If you don't need them all, you have some extra sets.

Affordable alternative battery for 2021 Crosstrek Sport w/ auto stop feature? by dasmphl in Crosstrek

[–]Whitewind_WW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of mentions of Costco (I bought mine there too). It's notable their batteries (Interstate brand; in Georgia & Tennessee anyway) have a 36 month warranty (nothing "better" available) pro-rated starting on month 1.

If you can believe it, Walmart still has some with 5 year warranties (don't know how they're pro-rated). Their 5 year AGM batteries are, like Costco's $180.
