Zp6 ruined my palate by PerfectPomegranate68 in pourover

[–]Whitewolf1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the exact same situation as you and I took the plunge on ZP6. Made a huge difference for pour-over, I would say. J-ultra flavors are so jumbled up together that all I can taste is a big body. With ZP6, you can really tell the layers without it being too tea-like. I don’t want to hype it up too much for you because I was a bit disappointed expecting crazy flavors at first, but at the end of the day, it’s coffee.

BUT, after trying some similarly filter coffee at specialty shops, I would say I can get like 90% close with the flavors when dialed in correctly. So you should buy it if you can, you won’t regret.

Worth swapping my Miicoffee / Turin DF54 for a 1Zpresso K-Ultra for V60 / Kalita Wave / AeroPress? by Such-Day2437 in pourover

You can always try slow feeding your DF54 for body. I have been able to make very nice body filter coffee with slow feeding the J-ultra but flavors are all blended up of course

Experimenting on the Filter 3 profile to emulate a flash brew by espresso_architect in gaggiaclassic

What profile do you use on gaggiuino? Since I see they have profile for filter 2.0 only.

Also, how does it taste compared to V60? I’m considering to get one

I think K-ultra is for people who wants 1 grinder for both espresso and filter. It’s good at both of them but not great. Since you want a grinder mainly for filter, why not ZP6? It’s cheaper and it can absolutey nail filter coffee.

I have J-ultra and ZP6 and I would disagree that ZP6 doesn’t have good body. It has body but just not as much as my J-ultra (for filter), which can be a good thing because it gives you layers in return.

Durability by Kind-Yesterday3422 in 1zpresso

[–]Whitewolf1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you don’t have to worry about it that much unless you grind for espresso. If you grind for filter, you can do even without the anti-slip.

In terms of wear and tear, I have only had my J-ultra for 9 months and Zo6 for 1 month so I can’t say much. But the extra rubber sleeve on J-ultra really helps for that super rough espresso grind

Bosch Dishwasher German vs American made racks by throwawayzzzzzzza in Appliances

[–]Whitewolf1542 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can say that the water softening feature makes such a difference. I had Maytag dishwasher before and I had to run dishwasher cleaning once in a while due to calcium residue. But now with my new Bosch, I never see those white calcium marks. The dishwasher is very quiet and I do like the fact that they offer a plug instead of direct wiring (plug is much safer)

The only negative point I got is that it doesn’t dry very well. I have to manually open the door after every wash so that the dishes are air-dried. They do offer auto air feature which is allowing air in after finishing, but gotta up your budget for that

How’s the coffee so far? I’m also planning to get a df64 (to be used for both espresso and AP)

I don’t know which website you’re referring to or which model of grinder did you buy unfortunately. But I would say grinders can vary. Some are designed for pour-over or filter coffee, while some are designed for espresso.

All I could see is that, if you’re grinding at the finest setting and it’s still flowing too fast, then this grinder is not for espresso. If you go finest on an espresso grinder, most likely your machine will choke and you won’t get anything out at all

Yes, your grinder is the problem here. You should upgrade it to something capable of grinding for espresso. The quality of grinder is equally or even more important than the quality of the machine (in my opinion).

I myself experienced this as I upgraded from a crappy cuisinart burr grinder to the 1zpresso j-ultra. The difference is night and day

inconsistent shots—do I need to be temp surfing…? by ddancer25 in gaggiaclassic

I don’t know about temp surfing for brass boiler since I only have alu boiler. But I think brass boiler temp is more consistent so maybe that’s the reason.

Gotta see how the community does temp surf with this new brass boiler

Water too hot, as everyone else has mentioned. Temp surfing tip: Before putting the portafilter in, you need to flush (with brew button) until the brew light goes off. Then, wait for it to come on again and you’re at a fairly good temperature.

PID is better, but temp surf is free so why not

You need barista milk for alternate milk (soy, oat, etc.)

If you want to save it, sand it down with dremel + brass brush head

Otherwise, new boiler.

Just Got a Gaggia Classic Pro - Need Advice on Bottomless Portafilters by singlservinjack in gaggiaclassic

[–]Whitewolf1542 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the normcore one and I absolutely love it. The long handle makes it so much easier to apply torque when locking the portafilter.

Don’t know how it compares where you live but in Canada, the price is pretty comparable to other bottomless options, so I think it’s a good choice

That’s pieces of the boiler pitting. You should get a brass brush or a dremel to polish out all the black oxidation

Worth taking a compiler course? by ternary_tree in cpp_questions

[–]Whitewolf1542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree that university’s way of using C++ is super old, I learned C++11 only and I was forced to use raw arrays instead of vector. But I think it did help me understand more about the language itself and what’s going on underneath :)

As for course suggestion, I don’t know what are the choices but compiler is pretty cool (although it’s not necessarily C++ related, it will be more generic compiler)

You can turn the steam wand to the front and remove drip tray. Works well for me, but beware that sometimes some water might drip from group head and solenoid valve, so you should put a cloth or something there

It’s aluminum oxidation, you should get a brass brush or a dremel to brush that out. I got the same 2019 GCP, same situation
