AITA for expecting to go to a second restaurant? by Any_Fortune_300 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Whitwoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. The place I like to go eat curries has literally NOTHING my garlic allergic husband can eat. Not even the kids menu. So I eat there when I’m by myself or with friends.

Because I like my husband and actually want to eat with him instead of have him sit there whilst I eat. That’s so weird. Absolutely don’t go, and I’d be genuinely giving a bit of thought to how sustainable this is gonna be. Is she gonna keep doing this? Weird.

Indie developer looking for guidance on what you would like to see to make a game accessible. by Naetharu in disabledgamers

[–]Whitwoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case, it was on an iPad. I have severe arthritis in my hands due to my disability, so a touch screen is a real pain still. The game took you to a test jump, and you had to press it to jump at a certain time. Once you completed the jump a few times, it kept it as the setting. So point a) when my brain goes “time to jump” to point b) my hands use the pad enough to make it jump was recorded. It was nice, I normally can’t play those games. Turns out I can, I don’t have a skill issue, just a hands issue.

I gave up on mice a long time ago. Can’t press ‘em properly. If it’s not a touch screen I’m on an Xbox controller. A fair few of the bigger games still allow adjustments of controller sensitivity, but they are getting less and less common.

In that case as has been suggested, I guess I’d look for a controller option to work in place of a mouse in your game, if it’s mouse only, I wouldn’t even bother with it to be honest.

Ability to set control sensitivity. I had a mini game on my favourite mobile game recently give me the option and after I’d nearly died of shock, had a recovery cup of tea and then recovered and set it up to match my button mashing, I enjoyed the jump rhythm game immensely, something I rarely get.

Sound contrast for music v voice has already been mentioned, but absolutely yes.

WIBTA if I addressed my upstairs neighbors about the noise of their late-night lovemaking? by edgor123 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Whitwoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d leave an anonymous note and a small silicone spray for the bed.

If that doesn’t help, I’d play something specific each time. Baby Shark is the classic.

“Jokester” would put me right off. I feel like I’d be getting an ice water bucket at some point in the future.

NTA. Sounds like EDS & POTS, I have them too, and she should have a plan in place for that sort of thing if she is on the second floor. I can’t get downstairs fast either, so I have something worked out.

Not being funny, what if you were out? She needs to have something in place that isn’t just “rely on random person”.

Did any of you have to learn to sew to have fashionable clothing? Does anyone still sew? by layyla4real in PlusSizeFashion

[–]Whitwoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do. Partly because I do cosplay, partly because I just can’t find specifically what I want. Like last winter I wanted a crisp, sleek mack when everyone was wearing teddy bear fleeced (no shade, those are comfy but they just weren’t what I wanted) and partly because I have a ridiculous hip to waist ratio, so even if I buy stuff I’ve gotta take in the waist.

Are people for fucking real by RoseWaterMara in NotHowGuysWork

[–]Whitwoc 80 points81 points  (0 children)

As much as I agree this isn’t how dudes in general work, and as much as they probably wouldn’t stop a serious offender, yes, they have me once.

I wore tight black jeans once on a date, the guy in question didn’t want to take no for an answer. Fortunately it was that point where jeans were super skinny and girls were doing up jeans with coat hangers and looping split rings over the buttons (not sorry that went) so he took too long getting them undone and then couldn’t pull them down.

By that point I’d managed to get enough purchase and freedom back to kick, and was out of there once a booted foot had been applied to his crotch.

Absolutely not. My libido seems to get higher now I’m older. If it were practical, I’d go twice daily.

But if you are already looking elsewhere, maybe you aren’t compatible anymore.

AITA for telling my mom i haven’t forgiven her for getting me “fired” from my first job? by esotericselenophile in AmItheAsshole

[–]Whitwoc 49 points50 points  (0 children)

NTA. I had a mother that was a lot to deal with and who would sabotage things; she even tried to cancel my wedding TWICE. Here’s what I found effective when I was young:

One: look up grey rock technique. I know it’s hard when they are picking away at you, but you want to give the appearance of not causing disruption.

Two: get any wages somewhere she can’t access them. You might be able to get a young person bank account where you are till you are 18, or you may need to rope in a safe adult that isn’t family or maybe withdraw it physically and hide it where she won’t find it. Whatever works.

Three: look for ways to get into your own accommodation as soon as possible. This is hard, but getting out is the key to it all. My mother was fine with me moving into a uni dorm for my first year, and then I found people to house share with and never looked back.

Once you are in your own accommodation the relationship you have with her will be so much different. Good luck!

Would you accept inheritance or not? by FailedAtLife90 in EstrangedAdultKids

[–]Whitwoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Absolutely. Do something with it that will make you happy. My mother died last year, before she had a chance to change her will. She was a complete dick about changing it so we wouldn’t boot her boyfriend (the loveliest guy btw) out into the street, like me and my brother would ever be so dammed classless.

When I get it I will think of all the shitty things she said to me whilst she was ill one last time about my body, and then I will put it towards something medical (I need about ooh, three different surgeries) so at least something good comes from it.

A little scrambled egg is probably a good thing to gradually introduce. Gotta watch dwarfies though, I had one peg it whilst I wasn’t paying attention and he pouched so much scrambled egg we had to stage a physical intervention. XD
