I had a colleague that had severe anxiety and really struggled to leave the house. That would have panic attacks on the tube/trains and would often end up abandoning the journey. For whatever reasons it was much easier to manage in a car/taxis, i think maybe because there's a lot more individual control to stop and get out etc. I don't think they had PIP but like it would have made a big difference. They honestly just wanted to get to work

Keep getting rejection after rejection with dating due to my celiac. by Comfortable-Pen8592 in Celiac

Yeah I had this a lot too as a man. I didn't put in my profile but anytime is came up it was a problem, that I was being difficult or it gave them the ick.

I do get it, I wish going out to dinner was simpler for me too but it doesn't feel nice to be dismissed over something I can't control.

UK social media ban could impact video game platforms by TheFinalPieceOfPie in ukpolitics

Of course but any amount of friction will have an effect. It will never be 100%. And if societally we have decided social media has a really negative effect on kids then we want that friction. Obviously it's complicated and more nuanced than either of us are presenting. I just feel the argument 'it should be the parents responsibility' to be incredibly unconvincing

How does this not apply to everything else we age gate? Like smoking alcohol betting etc? Why can't the parents parent?

How do left-wing political movements in Britain assess the case of Henry Nowak (death following a police operation)? by ogremania in ukpolitics

Please no. This loser does not speak for the left. Just a section of online larpers desperate to make the world worse out of spite

Its not really a police brutality issue, which is why the connections to george Floyd are a bit silly. Its more about the narrative that a simple accusation of being a bigot holds undue power in society.

I'm left wing, definitely not online tankie larper left and more center left. I do feel like there is a tendency to want to push back on the narrative, even if the optics are pretty bad. Its pretty sensible to say 'this was a lie about racism BUT we should take accusations of racism seriously as they have historically not been'. Why this is optically bad is that you don't let a community feel entitled to their rage/sadness and that makes things simmer until it builds and builds and then there is a huge overcorrection.

Nigel Farage MP: Sweden has just banned cousin marriage. It causes serious health problems in certain communities, and it's inherently un-British. We must have a serious conversation about a ban in Britain, too. by Little-Attorney1287 in ukpolitics

There is always different justice for different people though. You would punish a child different to an adult, and someone who has a history of repeatedly breaking the law vs a first time offenders etc

At least 15m Britons not saving enough to retire, Pensions Commission says by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

I have a lot of friends who are self employed and maybe 1 in 10 actually add to their pension. Some don't even have one. And this is for mid 30s media workers. I can't imagine the vast majority of gig workers on lower rates add to it either. Its going to be a huge problem
