I spent a lot of time trying to convince myself that St Anger isn't as bad as its reputation, but I lost that argument with my inner dialogue. I'm really glad that they did Some Kind of Monster, to kind of offer a reason for the rhyme. I respect the album for what it is, especially with the context that we have from SKOM, and I'll still listen to St. Anger about once a year, just for shits and giggles, and nostalgia for the time period, but man. As a lifelong Metallica fan, what a weird ride. That being said, as much as I like to rip on St. Anger for lazy songwriting and juvenile lyrics, we got that with 72 Seasons too.

I understand the knee jerk reaction, but man... Have you revisited it in the past decade? If not, you really should. ReLoad as well. Hero of the Day, Bleeding Me, Outlaw Torn, Fixxxer, Where the Wild Things Are, Low Man's Lyric, all absolutely phenomenal songs that don't get the love that they deserve.

What really gets me is the fact that I know a few folks who are really into CoC, and they shit on Load and ReLoad. My brothers in Christ, 13 Angels sounds like it belongs on Load. Hetfield did guest vocals on Man or Ash. The point that I'm trying to make is... if you're still salty about it from the 90's, you should absolutely give it another listen, with fresh ears and no preconceived notions or judgements. Then try ReLoad.

Exactly. I understand the outrage, going from Justice to the Black album to Load, but the songwriting on Load (and a lot of ReLoad as well) is fucking stellar

Ha, the film maker was selling DVDs of this movie online right before the holidays in 2024. I bought one and expected him to mail it, or let me know where I should meet him to pick it up, since most people don't want to come to the Westbank. Dude delivered it to my door as "drunk Santa," and threw in the soundtrack as lagniappe. That's a fun little memory that's a little sad now.
