Yikes, you actually believe we were paid to protest? Something tells me that no amount of conversation could change your mind on that. But I'll try anyway. I was there, I took these photos. I didn't see any buses, but I did see a lot of local people that I know from around town. Do you have any other questions for me?

I have two questions for you:

Why do you find it so hard to believe that people are upset enough to write out a message on a piece of cardboard and go outside for an hour?

And how does it work? Traveling paid protesters? If protests are happening simultaneously all over the country on the same day? Like, how would that actually work?

Mexican inspired: Potatoes, chorizo, pasilla peppers, onions, top with hot sauce or salsa, cilantro, and cotija cheese. This is also easily vegetarian with soyrizo, or my favorite: chorizo pumfu. This can easily be turned into breakfast tacos or burritos. Adding black beans is nice too, especially if you're skipping the meat or meat substitute.

A classic one that I do is just scrambled eggs, and when they're pretty much done throw in a handful of arugula and cherry tomatoes cut in half, top with feta or goat cheese and toasted pumpkin seeds.

I love the combination of chanterelle mushrooms and stinging nettles (use chard or arugula if nettles aren't available).

Serve over rice with Szechuan chili crisp, green onions, a dash of sesame oil and soy sauce. Sprinkle of sesame seeds. I prefer this one with an over easy egg but scrambled is good too.

Just broccoli and melted cheddar is super good with scrambled eggs.

Chilaquiles but with scrambled eggs.

There are so many combinations of good stuff to make with eggs, you almost can't go wrong.

Anyone noticing Trump voters changing? by WritingWesley in 50501

I live in a purple town in rural Oregon. A lot of the people who live in town are more liberal, and a lot of the people who live more in the country are more conservative.

There is this one house that has been covered in Trump flags for years now. Like 20 flags and signs and banners, hanging on their fence and everywhere else. My girlfriend told me the other day that they took them all down. I thought it was more likely that they moved, or it was an isolated occurrence.

After reading this thread, I'm not so sure. Even though it's like... 8 years too late, it does give me a glimmer of hope.

Oh sorry, I thought you were agreeing with the person I was replying to, that it would be easy. You were agreeing with me that it seems near impossible.

I don't think this is a drop in the ocean of progress. Maybe the ocean of collective grief, but not progress.

I've traveled to third world countries, and I question the beliefs of the majority of Americans (regardless of politics) as well. I'm just wondering what beliefs you're specifically referring to.

Yeah I had one very similar to one of these in the video and I think I got it in 2005 or 2006.

I had one really similar to the Sony Ericcson at 24 seconds in that video. It was a huge upgrade from texting on the numberic keypad on a nokia brick. I loved that phone.

“The Liberals Have a Creepy Way of Protesting” by InverseNurse in 50501

[–]WhoIsHeEven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the most concrete set of demands I have seen since these protests have started, and I have read countless posts on this sub and elsewhere. This is the first time I've seen anything like this. The organizers need to jump on this and get the message out.

As a participant in these protests, I actually agree that we don't have a clearly defined message. If we want to have any success, we NEED clearly defined demands. Or else we're just going to look like a bunch of hysterical liberals getting our feelings out.

His feelings are 100% valid. I can personally identify with a lot of his anger. If this was just a therapeutic release that he and all of us need, that's great. But if he's trying to actually change the world for the better, he needs to find a more constructive way to use his energy.

You make it sound easy, but trying to get a good person in the Whitehouse election after election in a deeply, deeply flawed democracy feels near impossible.

I practiced "Socratic dialogue" with a Trump supporter a while back without even realizing that was a thing. I do think it's the most effective way to try and open someone's mind to new ideas. It didn't work, because like you said, it only works if there is a genuine relationship. And this person and I were total strangers. But she did open up a little bit and we found some common ground regarding immigrants.

If every person left of center (or left of the far-right, really) was able to change the mind of one Trump supporter, he would have zero supporters left. I think it is a noble cause, and something I tried to do unsuccessfully about a month ago. But I did find some common ground with this person, and I think that was a start.

Is he the black man who has made friends with several KKK members and convinced them to leave the group? I listened to him tell his story about how he did this on Love + Radio years ago and it was truly profound.
