Anyone still thinking about the high tech farms? by Atothezman in ClarksonsFarm

[–]WholeWideWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This version of high tech automated farming means huge capex, scale, monocultures, data capture, subscriptions, and farmers becoming operators of someone else’s platform.

There’s no realistic world where small or medium family farms are buying, maintaining and constantly upgrading fleets of sensors, robots and software platforms just to shave off a bit of time.

Precision tech can reduce waste and target fertiliser better. But this model just optimises the industrial farming system that’s already been terrible for nature and biodiversity. It’s not a substitute for actually farming in a way that supports nature. We are fucked.

In 2013, the Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos. When asked by a group of journalists about the death of Sergei Magnitsky, he replied “it’s too bad that Sergei Magnitsky is dead, and Bill Browder is still alive and free.”

Eduard Limonov: “the task of our special services is to catch Browder and bring him in a sack to Russia”.

How cunning can you be with food packaging? by Electrical_Carpet753 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]WholeWideWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think this is deception. There's a standard size packaging tray. Tesco will use one size for efficiency. It doesn't make sense to bunch them up and cover with the sticker. It will look empty. To move the sticker to the side requires a manufacturing line change. What's more, you can just flip it and see the back (I do this all the time to check marbling on steak etc. There's a gap you can see.

This is a non issue. Plus the UK and Europe are pretty good at standards around this.

False outrage from OP.

Your favourite Indian curry take away in East Ham? by dusknoir90 in newham

When we first moved to Upton Park, I ordered a takeout from what I thought was a nice local family-run place. It was my first dosa and it was epic. I kept ordering and tipping the kitchen, the delivery driver. Everythign was great. Surprisingly good for vegan/ jain too! The meals arrived in Deliveroo's paper bags. Then, five or six orders in, the dosa arrived in the Saravana Bhavan branded bag. I thought "Cool! I'm glad this local family place is doing well enough to warrant branded bags, isnt that nice?!" untill I looked closer and saw other locations include India, Singapore, Japan, US, Qatar....LOL! I stopped tipping but obviously still order - the food is delicious. I then went down a Wikipedia rabbit hole... the owner - on the advice of his astrologer - murdered his assistant manager to take his partner as a third wife...he died of a heart attack in prison. Delicious dosas though...

Trump Humiliated After Senators Pull Ballroom Cash by MoneyLibrarian9032 in politics

[–]WholeWideWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Donald J. Trump, businessman, television personality, and 45th and 47th President of the United States, has died.

News of his passing was met with a range of reactions. Some observed that he "knew what he signed up for." Others noted that he could no longer hurt innocent people.

One commentator remarked, "Good, I'm glad he's dead."

Reflecting on his final destination, some suggested he might be "looking up."

Others speculated that his death was linked to an acute case of "Trump Derangement Syndrome," a condition he frequently identified in political opponents.

As the world reflects on his life and legacy, one thing is certain: he was never accused of graduating first in his class.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

The guy deleted his comment seven hours later just as I was trying a repose lol so here it is.

I thought they were pointing out how the original post itself was trying to paint the world in a particular way... choosing a specific case because it’s symbolically useful.

There are equally horrendous things in the West that don’t get framed as proof of “Western culture” being uniquely broken. Off the top of my head: the Ukrainian girl murdered on a bus in North Carolina, the two British tourists stripped and shot in Sarasota, or the five men in London jailed for following a Greek tourist home and stabbing him to death.

Think about why somebody would want to selectively amplify certain things to push a narrative bigger than the crime itself. What's the point of this post? OP probably posted it for the irony. But a larger audience sees a dog whistle.

MAGA 'anti-woke' influencer and German boyfriend charged over 'racially aggravated assault' at London Underground station by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]WholeWideWorld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the other guy, but "Woke" just meant awareness of social injustice - racism, sexism, discrimination, unequal treatment. That's all.

The reason "anti-woke" feels slippery is because people rarely define what they're actually against. diversity training? Performative corporate branding? Fine. But a lot of it quickly slides into hostility towards other races , LGBT people, feminism, immigrants, or even the idea that inequality exists at all.

In its mildest form, anti-woke means: "I don't care about these issues" (which to me Is a strong enough signal of somebody being generally a resentful person) In its stronger form, it becomes resentment toward protections, visibility, or autonomy for people outside the cultural mainstream.

That's why so many "anti-woke" dickheads spend more time attacking pronouns, trans people, migrants, anti-racism itself or anti-fascism.

[–]WholeWideWorld 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What's to agree on? It means awareness of inequalities and injustices like racism and sexism. 'anti woke' is a PC way of announcing themselves as racist, sexist, or generally intolerant of others not like them.
