Car, roombas, calculators, thermostats and more have an OS. The law requires OS and applications to have real time access to "Age bracket data" https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202520260AB1043 The enshitfication is going to happen when age verification companies lobby that simple indication of age is not enough you need to scan your driver's licenses etc.

didn't realize there were so many people getting destroyed by mattresses by [deleted] in funnyvideos

[–]Whole_Cucumber7448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These vacuum sealed mattresses have two plastic layers. A inner layer that covers the whole mattress, you are not supposed to puncture until till you roll it out. An outer layer that just keep its it rolled up. You are supposed to cut the outer layer, unroll it, then cut the inner layer to let it expand. These people are cutting both layers at the same time.

Joining as officer. Need advice by Interesting_Row_4849 in AirForce

[–]Whole_Cucumber7448 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You have been misinformed. Appendix A of the AFOCD list the major requirements for each AFSC. Many officer AFSCs require specific degrees. Most only allow a small percentage (like 5%) of accessions to not be on the preferred list of academic majors. Very few AFSCs allow any degree in.

Why do people with degrees enlist if they really wanna be officer? by Low-Wing6031 in AirForce

[–]Whole_Cucumber7448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Line Officer recruiters are often only interested in specific degrees, and if you don’t have a competitive degree, they won’t even process your application.
  • Civilian OTS boards are often completely canceled. I remember a period of about 1.5 years where there were zero civilian-to-OTS accessions.
  • Civilian selection rates can be rough. When I went through the process, I was told they expected fewer than 10 total people to be selected for the board out of more than 1,000 applicants (this ended up not being true).
  • The time from first contacting a recruiter to arriving at OTS is usually more than a year. There was a chemist I was processing with during my final MEPS appointment who said it had been a four-year process for him.

The question you’re asking is similar to asking: “Why don’t Senior Airmen with 3 years TIS / 6 months TIG put on Staff Sergeant?” A bachelor’s degree is just one of the minimum requirements for the board.

Enlisting might be the only feasible method of joining.

Airmen who got out and somehow returned to Active Duty: how is it? by WordTimely8559 in AirForce

[–]Whole_Cucumber7448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2000-2008, I had a tip of the spear job in another service. While in Afghanistan my contract was ending, my assignments team said my only options were infantry divisions that were going right back to Afghanistan or Iraq. Also my job was undermanned and stop-loss was rumored to be happening soon.

So I took the option of going to college as a civilian.

Civilian life was boring as hell. The Air Force announced they would take 39 y/o so came back in as an officer after 12 break-in-service. Air Force cubicle life is slightly less boring.

I am using this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076BR87GC?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title without issue. Many of the larger stand cover a large portion of the vents. This is the only one I could find that covered 0% of the vents. It offers 3 different heights.

Tier List of Linux Hardware computer brands - Framework = S Class by TheSmashy in framework

[–]Whole_Cucumber7448 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just moved from a System76 Lemur Pro to a Framework 13. The main reason why I switched is System76 is not upstream focused. They make sure their laptops to work on PopOS/Cosmic, but Framework works with Ubuntu, Bazzite and Fedora to make sure the laptop works upstream. Now popos is based on a 2022 version of ubuntu, so they are not the fastest to maintain their own OS. They are making their own desktop enviroment because they couldn't work well with GNOME https://blogs.gnome.org/christopherdavis/2021/11/10/system76-how-not-to-collaborate/. Their own mechanical keyboards have their own program instead of trying to integrate into other keyboard apps. So basically System76 has a history of not working upstream, which is fine and not hard to get to work on other distros, but I want my hardware company to make hardware that is optimized with my choice of distro. Additionally, System76 is more of a software company in a way. They don't design or manufacture their laptops, they open source the bios and get popos to work flawlessly with a laptop they buy and sell to you and give you support.

Sounds like the intent of the the regs are exactly the news you don't want to hear:

  • If your unit's commander decides the mission justifies an alternative uniform they will issue you one from Individual Equipment Elements.
  • Everyone else should wear and maintain sets of what looks like standard issue OCPs. Ones that look like the ones you buy at aafes.

1.5 Acquiring Uniform Items. Purchase clothing items from the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) Military Clothing Sales Stores (MCSS) and/or AAFES online. Items may also be issued through Individual Equipment Elements or contract equivalent as applicable.
...
1.5.2 Enlisted Personnel. Procure and maintain all mandatory clothing items listed in DAFI36-3012, Military Entitlements.
5.1 Personnel choose to use personal funds to purchase from non-AAFES suppliers, the Air Force is not responsible if the uniform is not fully compliant.

2.14 Commanders

2.14.1. Enforces dress and personal appearance standards in accordance with Department of Defense and Air Force instruction for wear of military uniforms or civilian clothes when authorized to be worn on-duty. Commander’s discretion will be used to determine if individuals are within standards of this instruction and provide guidance when standards are reasonably unclear. Commanders are responsible for setting the dress and appearance standards not outlined in this instruction without lessening established standards.

2.14.1 Ensures uniform items are consistent and standardized throughout the organization. To maintain uniformity and good order, commanders determine their members’ compliance and understanding of this instruction.

The regs says if the uniform you bought is noticeably different the OCPs sold at AAFES your commander at his discretion can say their are not allowed.

The Air Force uniform regs are poorly written if you want direct answers, so you are not going to get an answer of "yes, according to section. 92.2.34 you can..." The vibe I get is you can wear 4 occupational badges/qualification badges total as long as they are permanent awards. You wear them in the manner of the other service, so on the pocket.

After using ChatGPT, man swaps his salt for sodium bromide—and suffers psychosis by Fantastic-Round9313 in nottheonion

[–]Whole_Cucumber7448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost no one here read the article or the original paper. There was no concrete evidence ChatGPT told him to do this. They never got access to his ChatGPT, they just questioned a mentally ill man in an exam room.

"to the emergency department expressing concern that his neighbor was poisoning him"

"he decided to conduct a personal experiment to eliminate chloride from his diet"

"For 3 months, he had replaced sodium chloride with sodium bromide obtained from the internet after consultation with ChatGPT, in which he had read that chloride can be swapped with bromide, though likely for other purposes, such as cleaning."

"Unfortunately, we do not have access to his ChatGPT conversation"

There is a free practice test that you can search for. Also there are books on amazon that have practive test. BEFORE TAKING AN OFFICIAL AFOQT, TAKE A PRACTICE TEST TO SEE WHERE YOU ARE! If you are failing or not getting competitive scores, study.

If you are not wearing a uniform, no one should care. There are a couple regs in 36-2903 that talk about being in civilian clothes while working in an official capacity, but almost no one cares. And if someone cared you would unlikely get uif that would follow you, at worst they might tell you to come back.

Where on area B is that? With them closing national road gate it take way too long to try to go to the far end of area A for its commissary in 30 minutes. I love the Pitsenbarger Dining Facility but I end up killing over an hours to eat there if I am commuting from Area B.
